His credibility takes a major hit with the use of an exclamation point at the bottom of the article. A big no-no in newspaper journalism except in rare circumstances (that didn't fit in here).

He is my pick for Pats impact free agent player in 2007. I was impressed with him in Baltimore and his athletic ability. Yet, I have admit in the Bucs game the other night he looked more like Tully-Banta Cain then Brian Urlacher.

Are there many 270 Lb ILBs?

17 plays in an opening pre-season football game with a D'line missing 2 of their top 3 players and no Jr avaiable either.

Sure seems like I will draw all of my conclusions from there.

Cut his ass......bring back Tully.

Not too many, but there are a few around the league. Ones I can think of: Shawne Merriman, Shaun Phillips is close at like 263 I believe, Vrabel is about 263 as well, Anthony Spencer the rook for Dallas is a shade under 270 and Greg Ellis has played some lb'er at about 280 I think. So to answer, not many. The thing to remember is who knows how official some of these weight listings actually are.

On a side note, I recall reading the TBC showed up to niner camp way overweight/out of shape, so I guess he could be up there, but not in a way that is advantageous though.

EDIT: I just noticed you said ILB, so that pretty much makes the whole post moot unless you count the times Vrabel has played inside.

Care to explain why? Despite AD being an OLB for the Ravens, he has the physical and mental abilities to be an excellent ILB for NE. And having him in the SILB spot lets Bruschi and Vrabel play their better postions. It seems to make the *most* sense for AD to be inside.

Unless you are saying that he won't be good enough to play there at the start of the season, which is somewhat reasonable.

It's a question of integration, Oswlek. At least, that's how I view it.

You're right - he is coming off the OLB position from Baltimore, and there would doubtless be a short-term degree of comfort there for him as he familiarizes himself to the new schemes and personae around him.

I think, tho, that he is a quick study, too, and before too long we'll see him where Coach feels he can best contribute - all over the g-d field!

All other things being equal, yes - I'd prefer him inside, for some of the reasons you state, but not until the guy is ready to comfortably plug himself in there.

And let's not discount the fact that this 3-4 is a flexible defense, one that I'm sure will fully exploit Thomas' many, many talents.

I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to this. This guy is an absolute godsend for Belichick and the Patriots. While everyone seems to be looking forward to the offensive side of things (well, OK, I am, too), this is the stuff that really has me excited.

The guy is big, almost as big as Jarvis Green. It's like Jarvis Green playing ILB.

I'd evaluate AD more on the games than practice. and it's a little strange a minnesioate guy writing about the Pats.

He'll be fine as everyone has mentionned. He just has info overload right now. He'll be nasty when the game slows down mentally.

Last one i can think of is Levon Kirkland

This reporter lost me two words into the article.

He was obviously reporting on some other team that plays in "FOXBOROUGH, MASS." Honestly, when they guy can't even get the name of the town right, how much weight can you give to his reporting? Mr. Craig, the New England Patriots play in Foxboro. Moron.

If every camp reporter was saying the same then you could probably believe it. To my knowledge no other camp report has said this. I would caution reading too much into most camp reports as sometimes they contradict each other.

You do realize it is spelled both ways. Not just Foxboro. Its also spelled Foxborough.

You owe Mr. Craig an apology.

The local press sure played it down, Reiss even listed it as his fifth and last observation from Tuesday's practice.

Defensive breakdown. The defense struggled getting the correct personnel on the field at one point, which cornerback Ellis Hobbs explained led to a full-unit lap around the field. Coaches Pepper Johnson and Matt Patricia also took the lap. As the leader of the defense from the MIKE inside linebacker spot, Adalius Thomas spent some one on one time with Bill Belichick after the breakdown, talking things over. The overall practice lasted a bit longer than normal as the overall mistakes extended the workout.

It was written by a guy for a Minnesota newspaper, so I'm guessing he only saw a tiny sample of practice. I trust guys like Reiss/ Breer/ Casale more who actually see practice on a regular basis so they have more perspective and know what to look for.
