Taunting Penalty Enforcement

Did anyone notice that this situation came up in the SD/TEN game yesterday but was applied differently?

Situation:
SD has the ball (2nd-and-12) at TEN 18 with 6:42 remaining in the 2nd quarter
Gordon gets a reception for 14 yards to the TEN 4 yard line but SD flagged for unnecessary roughness.
The next snap was at the 19 yards line but was FIRST AND TEN instead of FIRST AND GOAL.

The application from these two games contradicts each other, but whcih one is right and which one is wrong?

So where's the taunting penalty in your post in the taunting penalty thread?

Ok so not the EXACT same sitaution. One was a taunt and the other was an unnecessary roughness. They are BOTH 15 yard personal foul penalties and therefore should be treated the same. Are you suggesting that they shouldn't be?

i did not watch that game and missed this...not surprised the refs on either one or the other case screwed up

wouldn't be surprised if both crews screwed up

great question and catch obviously one situation is a lot more preferable than the other

Ball at Bengals 20 yard line. 15 yard pass to Gronk. 1st and goal at Bengals 8 yard line. 15 yard penalty assessed against Gronk for taunting. Ball placed at Bengals 23 yard line. It is now 1st down and 23 yards to go.

I don't know why the referee said 1st and 10. He should have said 1st and goal or 1st and 23. A 1st and 10 would have made making the first down the 13 yard line which was incorrect.

Scoring listed it as 1st and 23 and not 1st and 10.
