OT: MLB sucks

say what you want about baseball it's run 100 percent better than the nfl that's for sure.
If anything MLB owners are more backwards and awful than NFL owners (hard to imagine, isn't it?).

The difference is that MLB has known for the better part of a decade that it is in a fight for survival after the steroid era when players who looked like walking balloons were "breaking" sacrosanct records held by Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron and when the pace of the game became so slooooooooooow that it didn't fit the new, instant gratification media appetite.

As a result the MLB Commissioner's office can focus on issues related to making the game better rather than acting like the NFL by pouring more billions into its coffers while distracting attention from its mishandling of spousal abuse and concussions with manufactured concerns like Deflategate...while simultaneously and disingenuously trying to blame lousy ratings on the dumb behavior a backup QB who will never be a starter for another team.

One of the most hyped games of all-time, featuring baseball'a two most desperate franchises, incredible series and Game 7 (I finally decided to watch three innings) features a dramatic comeback and goes into extra innings, but...

RAIN DELAY

Some sprinkle mist on the field, so the game is being halted and tarps brought out. Wouldn't want these coddled millionaires to play an athletic outing in the rain. And the NFL is now losing the ratings war to THIS?

Lol.

EDIT: And A-ROD is one of the commentators!!! WTF!
Pretty much agree...especially with the A-Rod remark.
I stopped watching after the fifth inning because I figured the game would find a way to drag on forever (which I guess it did). I guess if I lived in Chicago or Cleveland I'd have felt differently.

I can't speak for the NHL because I know more about rodeo than I do hockey, but the NFL isn't remotely close to MLB and the NBA in terms of being professionally run by classy and competent commissioners and league offices. They're far from perfect, but they're in another universe compared with the fraudulent ****show being run by Goodell and the owners.

He isn't a total douchenozzle like Roger, but Gary Bettman is a twerp and tool all at the same time. He is highly unpopular among most hardcore NHL fans.

As far as the game goes, I'm a life-long Sox fan and was somewhat rooting for the Cubs. I thought it was an all-time great series and it met and exceeded expectations making it one of the greatest of all time compared against all of the major sports great games.

Shame the game didn't go longer...we needed LeBron on less sleep so we can beat him tonight.

I've said many times that Bettman is happy Fraudell is around, because he is no longer the worst commissioner in North America.

I was really looking forward to this game, but Crowder and Horford being out sucks.

Horford sucks vs Cleveland anyways...how bad is Jae hurt I missed last night's game?

To quote Billy Madison, you know something? You suck!
What he just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things i have ever heard. At no point in his rambling incoherent response did he even come close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award him no points, and God have mercy on his soul.

On a side note, kinda sad I can still quote that from start to finish. What a classic

Sprained ankle. At least a week according to Stevens.

i watched the 9th, which ended right around midnight, and decided i didn't give enough ****s to watch extra innings.

Have to disagree. I love the MLB. I wish there were some way to enforce somewhat of a salary cap ceiling but regardless, there are just certain small market teams that will never be able to compete for the big name free agents. Luckily, rookie contracts and arbitration enable these small market teams to keep their young studs for a few extra years compared to say the NFL or NHL.

This was a great series and a win/win for people that aren't emotionally invested in either team. I was a bit torn on who to root for because I love Tito (**** sox management for scapegoating him and throwing him out) and Napoli. OTOH, I've always loved Theo and can sympathize with Cubs fans in their drought. 2004 were some of the best memories for me as a sports fan when we broke the curse and I'm glad Cubs fans got to experience that, especially the older generation that has waited so long to see a championship.

Game 7s in baseball, much like hockey, are some of the best entertainment in sports. All hands on deck, clutch hitting, strategic subbing, etc. You could see that Chapman and Miller really had nothing left but were out there giving their all. Chapman was relying heavily on his slider because he just couldn't get the same consistent zip on his fastball.

Both teams have tons of young studs that I'll enjoy following over the next decade.

Baseball is a tradition-strangled anachronism.

To be fair, there are plenty of football fans who would love the game to be like that.

One of the worst World Series by a manager since Grady Little. If the Cubs players had not pulled Maddon out of his blunders it may have gone down as the worst.

Hats off to both teams though. On the opposite side Francona did a great job getting those Indians to 7. In the end the Cubs players were just too talented despite the one of the worst manager performances I've seen in awhile.

I think most of us get what the Cubs fans are feeling this morning. I imagine they are feeling pretty euphoric and scrambling for championship gear

Im far from a fan and this is probably the first ws ive watched in about 10 years. But it was FANTASTIC imo

I thought that this thread was going to be about middle linebacker sucks as a position now that Collins is gone...my bad.

I don't know how anyone could have watched that Game 7 and not have enjoyed it. You can't top that kind of drama. In football, basketball and hockey teams run out of time. In baseball anything can happen before 27 outs are made (not to mention extra innings).

That was a fantastic series. I have family in both towns, we have Red Sox alumns on both sides, so I was relatively ambivalent about who to cheer for. Nonetheless, that series was gripping, and that last game was the cherry on top. Great job MLB! And now, onto Atlanta at Jacksonville tonight

One more note about watching last night's game. The replay system seems like a vast improvement over the NFL system, doesn't it? I haven't followed baseball for a few seasons, so it was new to me. It's quick, corrects obvious errors, teams can seemingly request them at will but they didn't seem to abuse it.
