I wouldn't put them in the top 10 of all time.

I think people forget what it was like to see dominant defenses every year and when they see one in a year, they think it is special.

Adjusting for this era, I think they are up there. You know it's much harder to play great defense these days, and they manage to do it night in and night out, and now have the pedigree too. I understand that you don't like them, but they are objectively very, very good.

There were three teams that allowed less PPGs than Denver last year. You can't be an all time great defense and not lead the league in fewest points allowed per game.

Nobody has shutouts anymore (it rarely happens). In this era, they are as good of a defensive team, as any team could be.

We've seen this act before...Peppers and Matthews get a strip sack each and Packers defense that is only dominant against their trash division tears up the Vikes for a 38-10 win.

Potential Denver losses, as I see it:

I would ordinarily think NE has a good shot during the regular season against them. However, we are playing them in Denver and coming off a Monday night game. We lose 2 days of preparation- one because of the monday game and another travel day. I don't know if I like our chances in that one.

In terms in points allowed per game, they were 4th last year. So even if you adjust for the era, the Broncos were the fourth best in that area.

And I will tell you, I would take the 2003 Patriots defense over the 2015 Broncos defense.

He also holds onto the ball way too long and he gambles too much. He is Brett Favre Lite. The problem is I don't think the Brett Favre/Andrew Luck style works consistently anymore now that teams have started to have fast, aggressive defenses.

Yeah, he does make dumb decisions, that's true, though you could argue that he is left in that position (having to take risks) far too many times. Again, I think he would be great on an elite roster, but we'll never know. He is definitely not at the Rodgers/Brady level as far as playing smart goes, that's for sure.

How about this. In 2015, the Patriots held opponents to 7 points or less three times. The Broncos did it once.

Barring health and the Pats OL playing like it did today with Brady, he'll shred Denver. Guy basically had turnstiles in the AFCC and still almost beat them.

I would say that Luck is around the 7th to 9th best QB in the NFL. So yes, with an elite roster he will do well.

Lots of sour grapes on this board about how good the denver defense was last year/still is now. You can use all that stats you want to discredit them, but if you stop living by the stat sheet and start looking at what they actually accomplished you wouldnt be questioning them.

Literally EVERY time that defense needed to step up, it did. It held Aaron Rodgers to 75 yards passing, knocked the s**t out of Brady and made him play one of his worst games in years, and held the most dominant offense in football last year to 10 points in the Superbowl and made the league MVP look like a starstruck rookie. Not to mention all the games it single handedly won for them early in the season when Peyton was throwing pick after pick.

I mean come on.. Going in to Denver this year even with Brady and a fully healthy offense is going to be a tall task. Not impossible, but about as difficult a task as we could ask for all year

I think he is a perfect example of a very talented QB (both physical ability and intangibles) in a horrible organization. Look at what the Patriots have done with guys like Cassell and Hoyer (both of very limited talent) and now Garrappolo (with much more talent) and Brissett (to be determined).

In an organization with top coaches like the Patriots (without having GOAT Tom Brady locking down the starting position), Luck would be a star by now, IMHO.

No matter how talented a player is, they need a good organization to develop their potential.
