He's a special teams monster but I don't know how much he brings as a safety if anything.

When Mitchell was in New Orleans, he actually started several games for them and did fairly well. That was one of the reasons the Pats brought him in. I'd love it if he can replace Hawkins or take Chad Scott's place. Hawkins is a great guy, but last year showed just how much he'd lost.

Mitchell can play safety.

The fact that we, as fans, have the luxury to debate the fate of one of the elite ST'ers even making the team, etc, is further proof of a really solid team.

As someone similarly said, Mitchell was prolly MORE valuable than Izzo in the ST game (at Mitchell's best). If he is still capable, he is on the team. Of course, this was before the WR onslaught, so spots get tighter. Mitchell is an after-thought, if even remembered as a team member by those who haven't watched him before.

I guess those who wondered who would return kicks, be the gunner, etc, forgot about him. As far as safety: You don't want him starting, but he won't kill you.

Yeah, I really love The Hawk.. obviously a great mind for the game, picking up the Belichick system, while switching positions, in record time. He's a favorite, and I respect the hell outta him, but at this point, I think he's fighting against his body. And talk of moving him back to corner just makes me shake my head... there's just no way.

I'd be happy as hell if he earned a roster spot again this year. The man deserves another shot at a ring for his tremendous effort in a very short amount of time for us. But if Mitchell brings more to the table as a legit backup safety and ST terror... then I'd have to give a heavy sigh and say 'it is what it is'.
