Former DE Jones Says Patriots "Not known for really paying guys over there"

He's not lying, Collins and Hightower still unsigned on the last year of their deal. They don't deserve that.

They don't deserve what? Unsigned on the last year of their deal = signed

With this logic, in addition to Collins and High being unsigned, Chandler Jones is also playing for Arizona unsigned and without a contract. .........and is thats the case, they should all consider hiring new agents (if they can afford it playing for free and all).

Bob Kraft: I don't always really pay a guy but when I do...it's not to some schmuck who recently appeared in Naked and Afraid Foxboro.

Bob Kraft: When I do, I vote to pay $30-$40m per year to some guy who makes me look like a schmuck while I keep mentioning what a great job he does.

Breaking news: Former Patriots DE recants original statement:

"I apologize to the Patriots for statements that I made and now realize are inaccurate. What I should have said was that they're not known for overpaying for guys like me. I have disappeared in big moments and had my best games against the bottom teams in the NFL. I'm working hard out here in Arizona to be more like Rob Ninkovich, who rarely misses games and always makes the plays when needed most. I deserved to be traded, as I will still demand top dollar for marginal value compared to said contract. Thank you, Patriots, for the only Super Bowl ring I may ever get."

That's ridiculous. We're not talking about the difference between poverty and, say, five million dollars. The upper-tier players are already rich. All they have to do is not be complete dunces with their money and their family is set for life. And if they are dunces, the extra millions won't make a difference.

If I could retire with $40M and no ring, or $35M with a ring(s), I'm taking the latter in a heartbeat. There's no selfishness involved, especially when champs make more post-NFL money.

It isn't ridiculous. $5M is a huge difference in terms of generational endowment. Are you really telling me that $5M doesn't matter? That's what is ridiculous.

Plus, if you don't want to invest in the future generations of your family, you can invest that money in people who aren't family. You can change the fortunes of an entire village somewhere. You can send 50 kids to college. You can build a house of worship. You can create a park in your city. And a hundred other possibilities.

Yes, you can choose a ring over those things. Whatever your choice, it is a reflection of your values. I'm putting a stake in the ground about mine. You can disagree, because your values are different, but it isn't ridiculous.

Ah, forget it. I get in enough stupid arguments on here.

Felt he was so overrated recently.

Will be interesting to see how shows up for the Cards

He'll do fine. He'll get 40+ tackles, force a couple of fumbles and record about 10-12 sacks...all before Thanksgiving.

.....and in FA someone will pay him $40m in guarantees.

Wait until Felger hears this he can rant and rave for days with his familiar, "Cap is Crap"....

Every year the Pats spend what they can under the cap, and need to be vigilant as Goodell's minions on Park Av. watch closely and make sure that the Pats do not violate the "integrity" of the game..

With Felger's stupid comments its clear that Sara pays the bills, balances the checkbook and does the taxes in the family.

Then next season crap the bed for Oakland or some other second tier franchise..

Is "spice" legal in California??

Just googled it and seems to be illegal so double check me on that.

If you're trying to say that the Patriots are known for "paying guys", you're insane, because they certainly are not. If you're not trying to say that, you've got no real point.
Here is my version of "insanity": The Patriots are "known" for being relatively equitable with pay throughout the roster; not being overly top-heavy through overpaying a few star players cap-wise yet still spending to the cap. You know this. Yet, I do recall you being upset over Welker not getting overpaid years ago ... perhaps Revis as well.

No ****. You don't become as consistently successful as the Patriots have been by consistently over paying guys in the salary cap era. They pay who they need to and stick to their business model as much as possible. The result has been four Super Bowl championships and six appearances.

NO ONE has managed the cap better than the New England Patriots this century, NO ONE. They ARE loathe to hand out top 5 type contracts, but they are more than willing to pay their "middle class" very well. A great example of this, at a time when they will be facing a huge number (relatively) of hard contract choices with home grown talent, is the same time they have $62MM in cap space.

This is why BB needs to consider running for president in 2020 after TB12 walks away.

Sure, Belichick and the Pats are very careful in how much money they shell out for individual players and are willing to play hardball with people (see Lawyer Milloy, Richard Seymour, Logan Mankins for example). But it's not really true that they don't pay people. It just depends on the player.

Last year the Patriots signed Gostkowski to the biggest contract ever for a kicker. The same year they also made Devin McCourty the second-highest paid safety in the league after Earl Thomas. In 2012 they gave Gronk what was then the biggest contract ever for a TE. In 2011 Belichick made Jerod Mayo the second-highest paid linebacker in the game after Patrick Willis. Logan Mankins became the highest-paid guard in the league earlier that year. In 2010 Wilfork became the highest-paid NT in the league. Rosevelt Colvin and Adalius Thomas were signed to what was then top-dollars.

The Pats are just very selective in who they pay. Most of the ones they pay the big bucks are foundational players in the middle of their prime. Had the Patriots regarded Chandler Jones as a foundational player, they would've paid him top dollars too. But Chandler Jones is not a Pro-Bowl/All-NFL calibre DE and considering the market for DEs (see Olivier Vernon) there's no way the Patriots would've paid him the market value.

I think you can argue both sides. There is no question the team is risk adverse (as they should be) and only give big money to sure things, team leaders and young players in their prime or still on the upswing.

They very rarely do not splurge in FA or hand out absurd singing bonuses.

They paid DMC big money but he needed to go to FA to get it.

In his most recent deal, they paid TB12 big money (you can argue it could be more but with his age it seemed like a good deal. His previous deal was peanuts but in 2013 the team was concerned about his mobility)

They paid Solder top 10 tackle money and has never made a Pro Bowl

They paid Gronk and AH big money. The Gronk payment was ok. Clearly they screwed up on AH but not because of on the field performance.

They paid Wilfork big money but it was a fight.

They paid Mankins big money but it was a nuclear holocaust in getting it.

They paid AD big money and he was only worth it his first 25 games or so.

They paid Moss in 2008 and he was worth it 2 of the 3 contract years.

We'll just have to see what they do with Malcolm, Collins, High and maybe Sheard. They've never reall had this situation before will 4 players under 28 seemingly deserving big ticket deals. They'll have $60m+ in cap space to use to sign 2, maybe 3 of the guys i've listed.

Should have used an emoticon, as was only kidding..

Ha. Well, knowing what we know it would not surprise me if he did it again. Seems like addiction runs in his family.

I refer to that as, "Born to the breed"....

Chandler Jones - 25 games in December, January and February.... 6.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 0 interceptions...those are backup stats

I'm not a Krafty Bob fan, but hate to tell ya Chandler, you didn't deserve to "really get paid over there"...

Given that you have absolutely no idea what has been asked for or offered its safe to say you are talking out of your ass.
