Wonder if Patriots practice acting injuries to get stashed.

On a serious note the 53 man roster sucks seriously why not a 70?
Is it owners being cheap or what could their reason be?
The 53 man roster is 7 players more than the 46 player limit on game day. How big do you want it to get? I think adding a couple of designated IR return slots and expanding the practice squad would be better for the game than simply expanding the roster.

As dues has stated, the roster is so jam packed with solid players in skill positions that one of the special teams gurus may have to be cut to make room

Hell of a year for us to be in a situation where we have to carry 3 QBs.. usually that was an area we could squeeze an extra roster spot out of, and since Brisset was a 3rd rounder there is no way he'd pass waivers to the practice squad

It'd be nice to carry 4 TEs as well, but if we did that then Devin or one of those true fullback style guys would lose their spot.

We have stupid competition at WR, but one of the 6 spots is taken by Slater who is purely a special teams only player.. granted at a pro bowl level every year.... how many of those guys will pass waivers to the PS?

Also looks like we have a lot of competition at the interior oline positions

Lots of competition at CB and Safety.. lots of competition at dline... and we have some new linebackers that could make that group interesting

It's definitely a nice problem to have, but it's going to sting watching a lot of these guys sign elsewhere because there is no room on the roster for them here

If they expanded the roster more players would have a chance to shine make more money for themselves.
They may find more Victor Cruzs and Malcom Butlers with more game exposure.
How frustrating is it to develop a guy to your system your team not be able to keep him due to a numbers game involving injuries to other positions as well as other factors.
Said player cant improve and his talent goes to waste.

I say expand the practice squad as well as standard rosters.

Wonder if Mitchell gets a shot at the WR2 job.

This might be the year Bolden and Or Slater get knocked off the roster because skill position players are too aplenty.

And like @patfanken says, a lot of these guys who are let go from the roster will be snatched up like hotcakes on other teams before you can say "waiver wire". That's how much talent is on this roster.

The practice squad was just expanded last year.

I hear former QB/TE A.J. Derby is looking good too...I don't see us carrying Four TE's. I would love to see Brady - Eldelman and Derby in a trick play formation thatsThree QB's right there.

Pats have a good track record with QB conversions.

We are also very Fragile at the Skilled Positions healthy Today IR tomorrow that's why they pay BB the big bucks. We have to take potential injuries at the positions of note WR/TE.

If they expand the rosters more, players will get paid less and there will be even more potential matchups that teams and players would have to be prepared for every week. Mismatches would become less common, and an already complex game would become even more complicated. No matter how many guys you have on the roster, there will still only be 11 on the field at one time.

BB was asked the same question, and he seems to feel that 53 is too many.

Also remember that many in the NFL look at the CFL as a source of talent development.

Lets just call a spade a spade Aaron Dobson have arrived...when was the last time we hear so much about this guy consistently?? I keep saying Contract year how many times have we seen players turn it on in that year...keep it up Aaron.

Hasn't Dobson "arrived" during TC every year he's been in the NFL? I'm not saying he's definitely going to be cut, but he's never seen competition like this for WR roster spots.

Possible but unlikely. It sounds like he needs to beat either Hogan or Edelman. Edelman? No way. Hogan? Maybe but he looks like a good veteran WR though. I could see packages where putting Mitchell out there over other guys makes more sense due to skill set but on the whole it is hard to argue Mitchell > Hogan for this year.

If you had to make a play who do you want on the field? Maybe Mitchell earns that trust late but idk.
