2016 Patriots' Pre-Draft Contacts.

I was listening to the PFW podcast and they were saying that Nick Caserio was at the Vaderbilt pro day. Can only imagine that would have been for Stephen Weatherly.

Yes, please!

There is one tape of him on DB. Wasn't that impressed to be honest. But as a late rounder, he certainly fits in terms of size and athleticism.

I'll be honest, I only liked his tape better than Tapper's, but he's a similar size/athlete who will probably still be available a few rounds later. He has perhaps the best upside of the late round DE/OLBs, so that's why I am intrigued.

Woah! Tapper hate

Haha. I am just not feeling it when I watch his games. I really do want to bring in another defensive end/outside linebacker type, though; as much as I like Flowers, we shouldn't bet on his contributions until he's played in the regular season. Both Long and Ninkovich are now in their 30s, which is on the older side for the NFL (which is just so weird, since I'll be 30 next year; I can't imagine retiring already).

I think that's where we differ. I don't see Tapper as a DE/OLB but as more of a LDE/DT type but one that has the athletic flexibilty to have other DL and LB responsibilities too. Think of a cross between Justin Francis and Geneo Grissom.

FWIW, I no longer have a 2nd round grade on Tapper. I wouldn't object in the 3rd however.

Agree Manx, Tapper's build and style of play are more fit for the interior.

I haven't watched him yet. Anyone?

Gopher here, I can tell you he never really stood out but he's a late bloomer type, was really tall and skinny but he's fast and smart and he's gained a bunch of weight. I'd take a flyer on him late, if nothing else he has huge special teams potential.

So I went back to review his gameplay, and I was really pleasantly surprised. Long, athletic, and pretty disciplined. He looks like he's still learning how to play linebacker, which makes sense given how much they moved him around. I saw him drop into coverage, pass rush, play the run, spy the QB, and make plays on special teams. He is going to be in all my mocks moving forward. Not sure who I'll remove for him, but he reminds me a bit of Jamie Collins coming out of the draft. I'm not sure he's as athletically gifted, but he's certainly talented enough for the NFL.

Some cutups if you aren't familiar with him at all:

He's a good versatile late round guy but maybe a bit too similar to McClellin and is undersized. I wonder if BB will look for a run stopper to round out the corps. Maybe someone like Kentrell Brothers, Scooby Wright or Steven Daniels.

North Carolina Central defensive back Ryan Smith is a fast-rising NFL draft prospect.

Smith has private workouts with the Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens.

He has visits with the Oakland Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings.

The All-Mid-Eastern Conference selection ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds at the NFL scouting combine with a 36-inch vertical leap, a 10-2 broad jump, a 6.88 three-cone drill and bench pressed 225 pounds 18 times.

I've heard Ryan Smith's name a few times. Need to learn more about him

Former UCLA offensive tackle Torian White, who's played at Hampton the past two seasons, worked out in front of almost a dozen teams on Friday.

White measured 6050, 317 pounds, completed 20 reps on the bench and ran the 40 in the 5.2s. Right now, I'm told the Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders are all showing interest in White

And TE David Morgan III met with the Patriots too.

6'3" and 230lbs. Makes me wonder whether Cajuste is on the radar too.

Dante worked out both Evan Boehm and Connor McGovern at the Mizzou pro day. A little strange, both are good mid-round prospects but Boehm is a centre and McGovern is an athletic interior lineman. Maybe they see McGovern as 2017 Cooper insurance.

Interesting. McGovern was on my radar until the Cooper trade. Maybe we're still not satisfied with the interior of the O-line. That's not a bad thing at all.
