In terms of points scored, the Patriots are ranked second in the league in 2015, behind the Arizona Cardinals. But that's not entirely accurate, since Arizona has played one more game than the Pats. This on the other hand, is truly an incredible marker of success:

Close to 60% of New England's drives have ended with scores. No one else is even above 50%! It's not even close....

-TO %: 1 (4.3) [2d is 1.3 back]
-Yds/drive: 1 (36.9) [only 3 others over 36-atl Cincy and "chargers"
-Avg st: 3 (32.1) [only 1.1-1.5 behind two others: jesters and vikes; now that's special" teams]
-# plays: 13 (6.0). [although behind 12 other teams, the best is only at 6.5 and that is Redskins. So with skins and 49s at top of this stat, it's meaningfulness seems questionable; even though long sustained drives should be a good thing, but shorter fields and more quicker yds make less plays needed]

I would actually look at the number of plays being lower as a often being a good thing (at least on scoring drives); that tells me the offense is being more efficient in accomplishing their goal.

If Team A has to use 20 plays to move 80 yards while Team B has to use only six plays to move 80 yards, then isn't Team B more productive on offense?

Obviously there are other things to look at: drives that are meant to eat up the clock; a low number of plays per drive is not good if it is a 3-and-out; long drives resulting in a field goal attempt rather than a touchdown, etc.

It seems to me that stat could very well be either good or bad, depending on the team.

8-8 team. Look at their schedule. There are 4 more loses coming.
Sure, may make the playoffs because they play in a **** division. However, they are one in done against the strong NFC teams. Giant dont have the horses.

We have fallen now only score on 55.6% of the drives and average 3.05 points per drive.. compare to #2 Arizona 43.6% and 2.5 points per drive..

Damn we root for a good team..
