Gaffney!!! I thought he came in and played very well on short notice, especially in the playoffs.

Yep... Played so great he had 11 catches in 11 games during the regular season. He only did something in 2 games of the play-offs.

The people in here arguing Gaffney>Caldwell are being such a bunch of idiots. Most of them...

All you guys can do is bring up Caldwell's negatives and two dropped catches in Indy.

Yet your support for Gaffney is only that he was great in two playoff games. Thats it, they have NO other arguments for why Gaffney is any better than Caldwell.

what no one is talking about is the coverage they faced.
Cadwell always got the safety and #1 corner and Gaffney the # 3 corner.Against the jets he got the # 3 guy who was out for a hammy the last week. He got first 3 throws by brady each for 10 yrd as this guy was 10 yards from him.Justin miller came him and kinda slowed him down but still he was the # 3 and below corner.

Against SD same thing the #2 and #3 guys were on him most of the game as watson and cadwell got the top 2 guys with safety hanging their side.

I think its mad to judge them when they were not facing the coverage and quality of coverage .

in the reg season under #1 CB teams cadwell produced vs gaffney played #3 corner /nickels to make a few more yards than cadwell in playoff. How can you even prefer gaffney .Beats me.

Excellent analysis, in which I throughly concur.

So now we're punishing Caldwell for being a coveted free agent by the Pats who exceeded expectations?

Gaffney right now has a 15 vote lead over Caldwell.

You'd think everyone in here is a Red Sox fan, considering this man love for the flavor of the month.

(Wait...)

This was an OPINION thread correct?

I'm not saying the guy is a #1 receiver. This was an opinion poll, I would choose Gaffney over Caldwell.

Right. And it's my opinion that the opinions of those who voted for Gaffney instead of Caldwell are bad.

Well then you need to start a different opinion thread on that topic. This thread was strictly about Caldwell v. Gaffney, not opinions about opinions of Caldwell v. Gaffney.

And so where should I post my opinions of the opinions of the opinions of Gaffney and Caldwell?

The same thread, as they are responses, right?

Yes, thank you.

RayClay -
A few corrections. Gabriel wasn't cut until December 13th so to say that Caldwell was being given a chance to shine because Gabriel was gone is wrong.

Next, Gaffney was signed October 10th. So, there was approximately 11 games that Gaffney was active for prior to the play-offs. Yes, I DO give him some leeway (8 games - what it took Caldwell to find his groove). Did they run a whole mid-season training camp just for Gaffney? How did I miss that?

How many catches did Gaffney get against the Colts? 3.

Comparing Rashad Baker, a safety, to Samuel, a starting corner is just stupid and has no relevance.

The fact that Gabriel was around better makes my point. Gaffney hadn't even learned the system and hardly saw the field.

He only started to get worked in as the preferred choice Gabriel faltered!!:wha:

Thanks for pointing that out. By the way were we running one receiver sets or was Caldwell seeing plenty of action?

Maybe you guys could just edit the vote since you can't win the argument.

I originally was going to compare him to Harrison or Sanders, but they didn't play almost every single play like Caldwell did.

So that was the only way to compare a player who hardly played before the playoffs with one who played almost every snap.

I agree it's stupid but I'm trying to make the closest analogy.

No, because your opinion is two opinions removed from the original opinion. Therefore, it is highly irrelevant and not germane to the original topic of consideration.

I voted Gaffney because I think he runs smoother than Caldwell. I don't think either one has proved much of anything so far.

I want both. I'd prefer to cut K. Washington and have T. Brown retire.

What is my opinion was only a 1/2 of an opinion removed from a train traveling at a speed of 75 mph? How long would it take to get to Foxboro from Boston?

I'm not sure how it would work, but I think they can both help us.

To tell you the truth, I think one of Stallworth or Moss might be cut. they're both limited receivers who rely on speed.

I expect a few injuries in Training Camp to clear up the confusion. We'll probably be starting Kelvin Kight and Gaffney, with Thomas at TE and old reliable in the slot by week 3.

Don't forget Bam!

Without a Doubt Gaffney.

Caldwell played a pretty good season but not nearly as fantastic as some people make it out to be. He was pretty solid, but made some mistakes and in the biggest game in his career he had a couple brainfarts. He did nothing spectacular during the season and then choked huge when his team needed him the most. there is no room on this team for Reche. He should be cut, or our last option. There are plenty of receivers in the league that can have a medicore regular season and play like crap in the playoffs. This team thrives on clutch players, Reche isn't one of them. It's as simple as that. His catch in San Diego was great but that was more Brady than Reche.... the majority of receivers in the league would have caught it and many wouldn't have ran out of bounds.

on the other hand, Gaffney excelled in the playoffs but wasn't as sharp as Caldwell during the regular season... but Caldwell had more time with the team than Gaffney.

The sick part of this whole thing is that Reche would look EVEN WORSE if it wasn't for Jabbar bailing his butt out on that first drop by hauling in an amazing TD catch in the back of the endzone.

My vote is for Jabar.
