RIP Sam .... a lunch pail player .... never finished a game with a clean uniform.

Was 255-260 lbs .... how times have changed.

RIP Sam Adams.

He was one of the record setting Patriot road graders in 1978... best rushing team total ever... 3165 yards.

Thanks for the memories, Sam. May the Lord rest and keep your immortal soul.

man, one of my childhood favorites.Only 67....very sad news

He was a mainstay of the O line for a while.. had to go back and check all of his teammates; Andy Johnson, Sam Cunningham, John Hannah, Grogan, Russ Francis, Mack Herron, Bill Lenkaitis, Darryl Stingley, Randy Vataha, Julius Adams, Leon Gray, Shelby Jordan.. some very good players and some decent teams that gave us hope when times were lean.

RIP Sam..

RIP. Remember Adams from the good ole days...

Stalwart from the early days very good player who played on a number of not so good teams.

RIP Sam.

RIP Sam....You were one of my Favorites.....

The thing I loved about that 1978 Patriots team... over 3000 yards rushing... and the team leader (Sam Bam) had less than 800 yards. You had Cunningham, Horace Ivory, Andy Johnson, and Grogan all with over 500 yards rushing EACH (plus Don Calhoun with almost 400).

Gee... I wonder if the O-line had anything to do with that.

Fond memories of that line. People should go back and look at what they accomplished historically. Hannah, Gray, Jordan, Adams and Lenkaitis. Amazing amount of running yards per game. Multiple backs, Cunningham, Johnson, Ivory, Calhoun.

And the receiving weapons were amazing as well, Stanley Morgan, Russ Francis, Harold Jackson.

On D, you had some studs on the defensive line, but the corners were Mike Haynes and Ray Clayborn, who are still in top 3 CBs in Patriots history.

Great player. People never knew just how good because he always played in John Hannah's shadow, yet did it with grace and pride. I'm happy Sam enjoyed his day in the sun in the late 70's, and lived to see the team he represented have so many more over the last 20 years. Sam Adams. He is one of the true foundation builders upon which this edifice rests. Go in people, Sam

RIP Sam.
Too bad you were never able to see your son play here too. Think of the marketing possibilities alone.

Very sad. Rest in peace Sam. You are well remembered.

What a great line the Pats had from 1975-1981, Pete Brock, John Hanah, Sam Adams, etc. I believe the center before Brock was a long time Patriot who was also a dentist (his name escapes me but I believe his last name started with an L). Man I feel old when I hear those names, but the memories are quite vivid.

My thoughts are with Sam Adams' family.

Bill Lenkaitis was a C/G for the Patriots in the 1970's and was also a dentist. He spoke at my Pop Warner team banquet and said the Dolphins would win the Super Bowl that year. (and they did)
