Brian Barthelmes once again did a pretty good job. He had one holding penalty which looked like a bad call as the Umpire was screened away from the play but called it on appearances after the DL slipped and fell down when he bumped into the LG (which made it look like Barthelmes tackled him, though he actually just pinned him). What was hilarious from an officiating skeptic's perspective was Barthelmes later did tackle a guy who beat him inside on a stunt and it never got called.
Drew Olsen (UCLA/Ravens) is the #1 QB for Amsterdam (he sucks), when he left the game with a leg injury (bringing in former Patriot QB Cory Bramlet (Wyoming) who played well off the bench) they brought in the second string OC to replace Barthelmes for that series. Amsterdam moved the #2 OC to LG and brought Barthelmes back in on the next series, then moved Barthelmes to LG and put the second string OC back in the middle. Barthelmes initially struggled at LG, then got his act together and did a nice job.
I've noted before that Barthelmes is on the ground more then I like. He was much better about it in this game, but still in the second half it was easy to spot him in his muddy jersey surrounded by four pretty white ones. The only dirtier jersey was the RB's.
Barthelmes has drawn a couple unnecessary roughness penalties for late hits on defensive players standing around a pile, so I got a kick out of watching a bunch of pointing fingers when he cleaned the clock of another defender standing by the pile (no penalty - this time). He gets a big thumbs up for his nasty style out there. 6'6" 296, he shows nice agility and second level blocking, making friends with the MLB quite frequently. I'd like to see him get some OT reps to see how he handles it.
Danny Baugher had five punts, his gunners were blocked on two of them leading to decent returns (8 and 11 yds). He averaged 45.2 yds/punt and had 2 downed inside the 20. As of week 4 (this is week 5) he's averaging 41.3 yds/punt, netting 36.3 yds/punt with zero touchbacks and 8 punts downed inside the 20.
Tom Malone had 3 punts. On his second he took a one hopper and got off a 37 yd punt, unfortunately the gunners got jammed up so there was a 7 yd return for a net of 30 on that kick. His third punt went for 52 yds, but he outkicked his coverage and got a 19 yd return. He averaged 41 yds/punt with no touchbacks and none downed inside the 20. As of week 4 he averaged 39.8 yds/punt, netting 34.9 yds/punt with 2 touchbacks and 4 downed inside the 20.
Baugher is pulling away in the punting derby, he is second in NFLE in net yards and second in punts downed inside the 20.
