Fight at Practice? Call in the Competition Committee!

Noticed a small item the other day that illustrates what a warped perspective so many in the league have. The Cowboys & Rams are holding joint practices, and a couple fights break out. That’s football, right? There are two head coaches there (not to mention lots of assistant coaches). Surely Fisher & Garrett can assert their authority and tell these guys to knock it off, right?

Wrong. The practices were cancelled. Stephen Jones, exec. VP of the Cowboys says that the competition committee really has to get involved here to figure out what to do. We need meetings! Resolutions! Regulations! My god.

And this is what the Pats are up against. It’s a league of children. One team is beating your brains in all the time? It’s not fair! Dad, make ‘em stop! It’s Harbaugh getting fooled on the field, and saying, “this is something we’ll have to look at.” Guys fight, call the competition committee. While all the while, Belichick and the Patriots work. They try to get better. If they have a problem, they handle it. And for this, the rest of the children of the league get pissy and pout and sulk and attack.

It’s nothing we don’t know, but it sucks and anyone in the league with an ounce of pride should be ashamed.

Not surprised to find yet another legacy kid (Stephen Jones) in the middle of this. Seems like wherever you have someone crying to 'daddy' (the league office) to come fix their problems, those cries are always coming from someone who was born into their job. Same deal with Deflategate and Irsay.

The concept of dealing with their own problems--handling their issues without appealing to a higher authority--well, let's just say I don't think these guys have ever had to do that. Why start now?

There are some good legacy owners. I have no significant problem with what Mark Davis has done so far, and the Rooneys and Maras seem fine. Hopefully Jonathan Kraft ends up in this group. But when they're bad, they're really bad.
