6. One of the things that struck us during this past week’s OTA session in Foxboro was the fact that Edelman appears to be in top form. As we’ve stated before, it’s always dicey trying to evaluate play in the first week of June, but after an offseason spent raising his off-field profile, it appears that Edelman clearly has his on-field priorities in order. One specific thing about Edelman that we noticed this week is the noise — or lack of it — when he’s working with Brady. Regardless of what you might have thought of Brandon Lloyd as a receiver when he was in Foxboro, you couldn’t argue the fact that he had great hands. In camp workouts, that usually manifested itself in the lack of noise when Lloyd caught a pass. There was rarely a sound when Lloyd would come down with a reception, a sign that the ball was perfectly delivered in velocity and location, and the pass-catcher was able to almost absorb the ball instead of catching it. By our count, in the OTA session the media had access to on Thursday, Edelman caught probably somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 balls in both drills and game-simulations, and almost all of the receptions were similarly quiet.

Edelman is a very canny kid. He also has a good manager who is getting him the perfect gigs to raise his public profile without pissing off the folks in Foxboro.

The conductor stint with the Boston Pops was a brilliant PR move in that it was quite unusual. It's getting him some serious clicks.

I thought Julian's hands would keep him from ever being a starting outside receiver. Only seemed comfortable with passes delivered into his belly his first 3-4 seasons. He made a massive improvement between '12 and '13. Good to see him still honing his craft. Only injuries can prevent this guy from donning the red jacket one day.

Kudos to you my friend. I guess we all have our binkies every summer but the odds are so long even for the "blue chip" draft picks, never mind the bottom of the barrel fliers. BB takes a lot of heat for his draft misses while not missing more than anyone else. My impression is that BB's real talent is separating the wheat from the chaff once he gets an up close look. The guys he releases rarely do better elsewhere, and he has mades solid pros out of more than a few long shots.

David Givens hit the Jugs like a maniac after his rookie season in '02 and became a starter in '03 with his new set of hands.

Good point. The Patriots' other successful WR conversion project was a comparably good example.

Yep. I think his consecutive string of post-season games with a TD reception is 2nd only to Rice.
