Bill Belichick: Tyler Gaffney Has Patriots Excited Over ‘Good Hands,' Hard Work Source: NESN - March 24

This is exciting a sometimes forgotten man in all of this is Tyler Gaffney.

Kid offers a interesting skill set power to run the balls hands to receive can get tough short yards.

However if we could I don't think we will take a shot at AP or draft a top back in the draft I would still do it.

Praise from Bill is occasionally the kiss of death...might be cut before TC.

Let's hope not he's praised players before he hasn't immediately cut.
Has he ever said anything positive about Jake Bequette?

I found this....from 2012...

Patriots coach Bill Belichick says third-round pick Jake Bequette could see snaps at both defensive end and outside linebacker.

Belichick has also praised Bequette's arsenal of pass-rush moves, saying they are "better than some guys coming out of college, let’s put it that way." Playing end, Bequette notched at least five sacks each of his final three seasons at Arkansas, including 10 as a senior. He saw time at outside linebacker at the Senior Bowl, but end should be his primary position as a rookie.

Clearly he thinks he has SOME value or he would have nothing to do with him

I'm really excited about Gaffney. I think we have something special in him.

Had really one productive year in college, where he was a bell cow for Stanford and had great statistics in a competitive conference. I really think with his production and his performance in the combine the only reason he fell to the 6th round was because of lack of tape on him, and the question of whether hes really into football full time, and if hed try and get back into baseball at some point...

Who was the last patriot contributor who spent his rookie year on the IR?

BTW, Belichick chose to pay $500K to have Gaffney available for camp this year. Given that when Gaffney was picked up, Belichick knew that he had no one under contract other than White for 2015, the pickup of gaffney made sense.

Personally, I would look to add Ridley or even a draftee. There are lots of RB's who are likely to be available at 101.

We need the RB of the future. Blount is not that man; neither is Bolden. Belichick has shown little faith in Gray. Gaffney will certainly have a chance to compete for roster position.

Ridley isn't going to sign here. He's going to want somewhere that he'll be the guy so he can re-establish his value.

Suck it Dave Gettlemen.

Ben Watson? Shane Vereen? Crable? What is your point with that statement?

Gaffney is my Binky this year.....

I'm really excited about seeing him play, have heard a lot of good things about him, hope he can live up to the hype lol

Vereen produced a bit in his rookie year.

The point is that it VERY RARE for players not picked in the first round to be contributors after spending their rookie years on IR. Every year, we hope, and every year we have been disappointed. I cannot recall a patriot not picked in the first round being a serious contributor after spending his entire rookie year on IR.

Crable is an example of a successful contributor?

Crable had two tackles and a 1/2 a sack Year 2. A huge jump from the year before There was even a thread dedicated to how much muscle mass was added to his legs. Ridiculous....

In all seriousness, I agree. The Crable mention was a poor attempt humor.

I think it's possible for a player who was IR'd their rookie year to contribute.

Realistically, a 6th round pick and a year on IR would make Gaffney a long shot to make the roster, let alone contribute in any meaningful way. If he does, great. Bonus-time. But, I wouldn't be counting on him to be te second coming of Gayle Sayers or anything.
