I agree with this. I think Washington may make it over Gaffney, but definitely would not be surprised if Gaffney makes it as Brady's probably more comfortable with him.

Because he's not going to see any playing time behind these guys. Might as well let him rehab and look to make an impact in 2008. I doubt the Pats want to waste a roster spot on a guy who's not going to play and he's too valuable to cut. IR is the place to stash him.

if he actually learns the playbook or learned it..i would say he starts over Welker and anyone but Randy and Stall

1) Randy Moss - Def. our #1. We havent had a #1 reciever since Troy Brown's 105 catches in 2001.

2) Donte Stallworth - Great deep threat. Awesome #2 for us.

3) Reche Caldwell - Say what you may but I think Caldwell will be #3 or #4 on our depth chart next season. I say he is almost a lock for a roster spot.

4) Wes Welker - Could put him at #3 and Reche at #4.

5) Gaffney, Brown, Washington?

I think Gafney makes it before Caldwell, he was really coming on at the end of the season, plus dumba$$ dropped the crucial catch in the end zone!!! Maybe he didn't have his eyes wide open

I like CJ. But I'm going to temper my expectations of him, especially after the latest injury news. There's no need to rush him and I hope he sticks with the team, but he probably won't make an impact till 2008 at this rate.

Guys: the rehab schedule for reconstructive ACL surgery is pretty well established. They can start running before they can start doing quick cutting drills. Quick cuts (kind of essential for a WR) don't start until 6 to 8 months after surgery....that would be sometime between August 1st and October first for Jackson.

Given that he missed all of last year's camp, never really saw the field in '06, will have missed virtually the entire off-season again, and won't be 100% physically, PUP is so obvious it's not even funny.

I definately agree with Gaffney over Caldwell. I felt he was our number 1 receiver at the end of the season. Reche is the Patriots version of Bill Buckner and he may be damaged goods.

Also, the Pats have a history of having injury prone WR's. Although this is a different group, injuries are a fact of life. This depth is very beneficial as a result.

Caldwell was a good receiver for most of the year though. You could call him Bill Buckner, but don't forget Buckner was a damn good player.

BTW, Chad Jackson is closer to being out of the NFL than he is to being a starter for the New England Patriots. He'll get his shot to make it in the NFL in 2008.

It's going to be a tough battle for #3. I think Moss/Stallworth are clearly 1/2. That's a given. Welker is more of a traditional slot guy, so I think he has the edge over Caldwell. Gaffney also came on at the end of last season, too. I liked the way he was playing. Regardless, this is a good problem to have.

Let's not have a repeat of the Caldwell thread, that went nowhere for 40 pages. That being said I think the only lock going into the season is Welker, everyone else is in a position to be cut or traded if Belichick doesn't like how they look in camp. I think your ideal situation is Moss and Stallworth outside with Welker in the slot, Caldwell being your fourth receiver for when they spread things out.

I think Washington makes the roster over Gaffney if he does well on special teams and shows that he can do well in the system. However if Moss works out and Washington shows signs of struggling then Washington probably wont make the team.

I've been holding out hope for CJ but Reiss keeps mentioning that coaches aren't sure if he is willing to make the commitment to being a good player. I think he is on the PUP list to start even though he will probably be recovered by the end of camp. He will probably be on the IR too barring any injuries.

They will make a spot for Troy somewhere if he is able to play, and I really hope he can recover and come back for one last season. This season is probably the swan song for the older guys on the team and it would be great if they could all go out together on top.
