Watching John Thomase talk about Marquise Hill this evening made me think about guys I believe won't be on the final 2007 roster.

Hill is of course an obvious choice I am happy to say.

There will of course be some attrition at the WR position. I have a strange feeling Kelley Washington will end up on the outside looking in. That feeling could be indigestion.

I think the DB position, just like last year will remain unsettled until the last cuts.

Any other thoughts.

Yeah, I got one. Kevin Faulk. He's injury prone, has fumbleitis, and isnt a tough player. We should have cut him yrs. ago but Belioli just hasnt seen the light. This yr. They will.

Note: Of course I dont feel this way. I love Faulk, but considering how I am never first at anything, I figured Id just spit it out before all of the Faulk haters get on here.

Strangely, if the Pats grab a guy like Lorenzo Booker, that may be a way they'd be looking to go. I like Faulk a lot but the untimely errors are killer.

Belichick loves Faulk too, so the haters will have to wait..

Might as well get the first "Faulk must go" post out of the way. I for one look forward to the many 8 yard runs on draw plays and clutch recieving TDs that Kevin Faulk will again provide in 2007.

I think Hill is done.

Alexander or Woods may go if we draft multiply LBs (I have the feeling Alexander may be gone by opening day, perhaps traded for a conditional pick).

Washington is indeed a crapshoot, probably more likely to be cut than kept, especially if we draft Anthony Gonzalez. Either Caldwell or Gaffney may be gone too, but not both.

It's a long shot, but if Garrett Mills emerges, Paxton could be cut in favor of the more versatile player (especially if we draft DeOssie).

Evans is on the bubble if we draft RB (though if we draft Bush he could do a year on IR).

Just guessing around, but the above are probably the bubble guys

Not to pick on everyone's 2nd favorite binky after Faulk, but I'd rather see Caldwell gone before Gaffney. Caldwell had the benefit of a full season in the system unlike Gaffney. Gaffney looked very comfortable in our system during the playoffs.

I can see Faulk being a cut casualty just because of his age, salary, and reduced role if we draft a Booker or Bush. Faulk will be 31 at the start of the season and that is the age when RBs tend to start to break down.

I think Gaffney will go over Caldwell. Caldwell and Brady have a rythm going and Belichick has shown in the past that a couple of outstanding games in the playoffs does not save you from being cut (see Jermain Wiggins). Caldwell is a good possession WR in our offense and with Welker beig the slot guy and Stallworth being the deep threat, Caldwell still has a role in this offense.

I actually think Kelly Washington will go before either one of them. I think the Pats were intrigued with him before he was drafted and like David Terrell, they will give him a shot to prove he is more than what has shown thus far in the NFL.

I think Chad Scott might have seen his last game as a Patriot. With the addition of Tory James, we don't need his veteran prescence as much.

Sorry, I don't see Paxton getting cut regardless of how Mills does. Paxton is a proven commodity at a key position. I believe he's only ever muffed ONE snap. That says A LOT. Especially with the different Punters and the anal way that Vinatieri insisted on having the ball held. Paxton had to get it to Miller/Walter in a particular way so their job was easier.

I agree that Evans could be on the bubble. Same with Washington. However, I think that Corey Mays goes before Alexander or Woods, though I believe that Alexander might also be on the bubble.

I doubt that either Gaffney or Caldwell are gone. Patriots already have 2 new receivers on the team in Welker and Stallworth. Its unlikely the Pats will rehash last season and leave Brady with NO ONE who he is familiar with.

I'm a documented Faulk "hater" but I think there is very, very little chance he is cut this year. Look at it this way - Bruschi is but a shell of his former self, his talent has already declined but no one is suggesting he's about to be dumped. Like Bruschi, Faulk is, for better or worse, a veteran 'leader' and BB values the continuity these guys bring a great deal. Their quality of play might slip but the attitude and dedication of these older players cannot effectively be replaced by very young players regardless of how talented they may be. Maroney isn't established yet and Morris is a career backup, like Evans and Pass, etc. So, if Faulk can at least simply run straight ahead he will be kept on this team for his presence until a new generation at RB is more clearly molded. The fact that he might still be productive is secondary at this point, just like it is for Tedy.

Gaffney,Hawkins,Washington,Alexander and Woods and maybe Hill but with Hill its been why has he not gone years ago.

Faulk had a good year last year, no injuries or anything. I do not believe (even with the Morris signing) he is a cap casualty. Hill SHOULD be a causality, but no one will understand why he's still on the team. Maybe if we draft Carriker he'll be gone.

The guy who should be worried is Hawkins. If we draft a safety (very likely) it's basically for Hawkins spot.

Hawkins looked like he needed an oxygen mask on when trying to run after Colts receivers in last years AFCCG debacle - He is not cut out as a guy who can go fast and long for a whole 60 minutes anymore,I say hes out and probably out of the league unless a team puts him on the PS.

His best days are gone.

Must resist the temptation to argue with nearly all of the posts in this thread....again....

What are you guys smoking before looking into this crystal ball .

Faulk wont be gone. The positives out weigh the negatives with KF. Hill has worn out his welcome. What a bust.

Faulk will be part of the team this year. He does some great things out of the backfield-catching passes and running draws. He also makes some nice blitz pick ups, so I see him as being a member of the team this year.

no way is Faulk gone..even if they draft Peterson he wont be gone

Faulk didnt fumble a lot last year and stayed relatively healty. lets not start the same **** as we did last yr about him leaving/staying

hes a keeper

I agree with all but Woods. He's a young developmental LB who is already a contributor on STs. He played pretty well at LB last preseason and I think he'll get some reps this year. I'm hoping he makes the Sophomore leap. Michigan guys have been known to do that.

I think Caldwell filled the role last year...and stepped up to be our key receiver last year....However, the "poopy pants" syndrome as one ESPN guy called it that he exhibited in the playoffs...was horrible......and the fact that Gaffney stepped up in a crucial situation....gives him the edge if it were to come down to one of the two going. Let's face it ....we are talking about our #4-5 wr corps here.......With Stallworth, Washington (yes I think he will succeed here), Jackson, and Welker as our primary WR's...neither of these guys may be on the team next year....

Why are folks so quick to dump Gaffney?

He looked great and the end of last season. He was quick, had good hands, was very decisive after the catch and always gained some extra yardage.
Most importantly, he's not that expensive.

Let's assume rightly that Stallworth and Welker are the only sure things we have at WR.

Is anyone going to tell me that Gaffney can't make one of the 3 remaining spots.

What am I missing about this guy that's so bad?
