If True, this is our Trade Down opporunity

I have no problem with reaching a good bit for a QB, because they are so important, but there has to be limits.
Kolb in the 2nd round is a big reach, but it is justifiable to a point, especially if you ignore the fac tthat he is a product of a weird offense and who knows if he can read defenses. But Kolb in the first is far too great a reach.

Taking a 25-26 year old QB in the first round is risky, but for the right player I might do it. I'm just not sure of Beck's arm strength or ability to read defenses.

Ochmed, this may be the first time i even imagined you to stumble.
It sounds as if you think the question is whether THE PATRIOTS
should take one of those lads.

You may be perfectly correct assessing both of them.
But do the other 31 draft decision-makers consult you?
It's whom THEY might like that is being discussed.

Forgive me if i misinterpreted your remarks.

I think Pats have more chance to trade up than trade down. Why?

According to many scouts and GMs, this draft has few 1st round graded players (18 according Bill Polian). I think Belioli could trade up in the late teens, early twenties to get one one last 1st round graded guys.

I would that given the fact that the guys with first round grades is so low, that would give you impetus to move down. Given the fact that the "sure fire" first round crop is thin in areas of weakness means that trading down will allow you to pick up value later while being able to get the same caliber of talent.

Well, this theory is certainly gaining some ground.

PFT is now suggesting that the Rams might want to trade up to the bottom of the first to take John Beck. But I'm not sure their 50th slot in the second round is of much use to us.

If we're talking the Rams, the price goes up because they're picking 20th in round 2 - quite low. Now we're into their round 2 + either 2008 #1 or 2007 #3 and 2008 #2.

Personally I am hoping for something smaller, like Detroit or Cleveland's #3 to move down 6-8 spots.

Yes, that makes a lot more sense. I agree with you that a lot of the players I'd be happy to see us take at the tail end of #1 would still be there a little further down, and I think we could also pick up good talent at the top of the third.

Wouldn't the Rams be a good candidate for the two-for-two swap? 13 & 50 for 24 & 28.

That might be more interesting, but there's no suggestion the Rams are willing to give up the 13 slot, but then I guess the Pats have more to offer than most.

It would but the PFT article suggests they're looking to trade up from their #2 as opposed to down from their #1.
