Getting this out of the way. Were the balls underinflated. Yes. They probably have been as long as TB has been a QB.

The issue here I believe is unwritten rules. Specifically regarding teams not ratting each other out for stuff like ball adjustments, stealing signs...etc.

But the old days are gone. The coaches, owners and GMs these days want to be part of the NFL spotlight. They do not want to be viewed as failures.

Cases in point. John Harbaugh got embarrassed by BB on the eligible receiver calls. I assure you it was too much for his delicate ego to take. Enter the Colts GM. He knew a loss was coming. What better cover than saying the Pats were cheating.

That made sense up until halftime....and the destruction that ensued.

I think Belichick's error was believing the old unwritten rules applied. That the Mangini thing was an aberration on a personal level....and now we are all paying for that.

Or, they started at 12.5 PSI when the referees measured them inside away from heavy rain 2.5 hours before the game, and then dropped to 9 PSI by the time the balls adapted to outdoor weather. Since no air was removed from the ball, nobody has ever cared before.

The quarterbacks are asked at what range they want to start with. After that, the teams cannot add more air if the ball drops in temperature causing the pressure to drop by 2 to 4 PSI. But it's clearly not their job to add air to the ball. They are not supposed to touch them at all.

That's why Rodgers asks for balls to be over-inflated above 13.5 and hopes the referees don't release air. It's because he's also a cold weather quarterback who keeps wondering why the balls feel so deflated. In actuality, he's playing with a regulation ball by the time the pressure drops.

They were 9 psi? I thought they were 11? 11 is explainable due to temperature dropping from inside where they're filled to outside.

The report from the officials checking the pressure of footballs is going to be made available isn't it. Before the game..... Not the half time measurements.

Completely agree. If we're to believe Belichick & Brady (thought they were very credible in their press conferences) and we believe the balls were under-weight; then it has to be a series of errors by the Head Referee. Schefter stated the NFL is having difficulty finding culpable evidence of the balls being altered. So....... it has to be the officials
