because if he is available you can count on the Pats taking him. Although he may be a great player for the Pats 3-4 scheme, the Pats don't need any more lineman this early. However, if the value isn't there for safety, cornerback, linebacker, offensive tackle, then I guess I would be ok with the pick. In the end, I think Carriker will go to the San Fransico 49ers with the 11th pick, but you never know.

it doesnt if u dont have glaring needs. We have some pretty big needs.

our LBs are all 30 + or about to be

our safeties will be depleted after this year..Harrison + Wilson = injury prone..Wilson is an FA and i dont see him resigning unless he plays full yr and plays well and Harrison is close to retirment. Hawkins is not the answer..hes servicable

at CB..Samuel is whining..Scott is aging..Andrews is Special Teaming..Gay is usually hurting

DL isn't like OL where you like to play your starters all game. Rotations, injuries, 4-3, etc, Carriker would bring a lot to the team and be a great pick. He'll be long gone, though.

I think so and hope so. For some reason I'm viewing this draft differently than others. We were one stop away from the SB and should be there again, if we take care of the ILB situation.

Maybe we already have and I'm just not seeing it.

Your absolutely right. It wasn't the dropped pass by Caldwell for a walk in touchdown or the Pats offense as a whole, but it was the linebackers simply couldn't cover any of the Colts TE's in the second half. Also, we all know the Pats have had trouble covering other opponents TE's and slot recievers. I know you and I would like to see ILB Willis in a Pats uniform but we will need a lot of luck for that to happen. But PATSNUTme, anything is possible.

I think Harris would be a good fit for our 3-4. AD can slip inside also to cover the TE's. But, we can't count on Tedy to have a flawless year and we need a good young ILB to take some reps for Tedy.

I like David Harris too. I saw him play many times this year and he is always around the football. He stood out more to me than any other player on that defense.

I don't see how a guy with his intangibles, size, and skill set lasts this long.
He played a 2 gap scheme in college which prevented him from making plays.
In the senior we all got a glimpse of what he could do when given the opportunity to play 1 on 1 and be given only 1 blocker to get through.

Imagine Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, and Carriker as a 4 man front in pass situations or even in a 4-3 alignment. Mix in Green for Wilfork in long pass situations and move Seymour/Warren inside.

I'm getting excited just thinking about it.
Keep in mind that if we draft a Beason/Timmons type OLB or any olb that can play in space/coverage we could do serious serious damage from the 4-3.

Not ever going away from the 3-4 of course, but the ability to line up in a 4-3 when we want with those 4 would be quite scary.

I don't think any one of those 4 could be blocked 1 on 1.

I agree wholeheartedly. In addition to Carriker, my favorite CB (Revis) will be gone also. Correction: A slim to none chance they'll make it to #24.

IMO (who else's), the likelihood of Revis and Hall both off the board means we wait till later for a CB, as both Ross and Houston don't seem to fit the Pats.

The rising of Staley, Harrell, Griffin, now make them #24 possibilities, when not too long ago they were #28 options. Nelson and Meriweather remain wildcards somewhere in round one with our picks.

This draft is the most difficult one for me to predict. Hope it all comes together quickly well before the 28th...

I'd love to add Carriker to this team though. I really don't see a downside to adding a guy with an ideal frame/body size (6-6 295) for 3-4 DE that can take on double teams, collapse the pocket, and occasionally terrorize the QB.

I mean think of a nickel front 4 consisting of Seymour, Warren, Wilfork, Carriker. There's no way you can double team all of them.

Scary thing is by adding Carriker's speed he can line up at any position in the front 7. Along with Adalius Thomas they could really show alot of the strangest packages ever seen on a football field.

Great point. But we need to upgrade our Linbackers in order to be more effective in those packages. The Pats can show any look they want but if they can't cover, it won't matter.

We have 4 pretty damn good LB. We don't need LB. We need youth, depth, developmental guys, sure.

But Thomas, Vrabel, Colvin, Bruschi, however they configure them are fine. What draft pick will beat one of them out ?

I understand but don't you realize that Bruschi and Vrabel aren't the players they used to be? They couldn't cover the Colts tight ends in the AFCCG. So yes, I think we need some inside linebackers. Get ready, because they just might take David Harris in the first round.
