A lighter moment for dog lovers about Brady

So is the converse true about all the daily disses when your cat simply ignores you?

We use a product that comes in a small jar called "Musher's secret." Apparently, they claim that they use it for dog's paws in the extreme cold for dog races, etc. So far, so good.

Unfortunately, our wonderful German Shepard in this avatar pic was diagnosed with cancer last week--so things have been quite sad for our family at the moment. Feels like I'm losing my best buddy.
Ugh. My sympathies. Been through it. A couple times. I swore I'd never get a dog again after the last one. That's the only problem, you know somewhere in the 10-12-16 year range it's going to happen.

I can offer no advice that would be helpful, other than I'm sure many here know what it's like. Tough thing, man.

Looks like the Border Collie/****er mix I grew up with in your sig.
Close. He's a Flat-coat retreiver (basically a black Golden) Border mix. Super sweet and great around kids. I had a BC/Collie mix as well. About 40 lbs. sucker could fly. He got out one day when I drove to work. I was doing 40 and looked in my mirror and there he was-gaining on me! I had to stop and of course he jumped right in. I got the sad puppy eyes when I brought him back home.

Clearly the dog lovers get butthurt more than most whenever they get criticized for their poor pet ownership responsibilities. Typical.
As has been pointed out, there are certainly some bad dog owners. That said, there are many good pet owners out there as well. A good dog owner understands that providing for a dog means more than just giving the dog food and taking it out to poop. It means that you train the dog properly, socialize them early and provide plenty of stimulation and exercise.

For thousands of generations, dogs have been bred to be "man's best friend", and if the owner provides for all of a dogs needs, dogs do a heluva job at it. Most of their cognitive reasoning is pretty limited compared to humans, but their social intelligence is very high. Not only are dogs hard-wired to please us, but they are adept at reading our body language and they effectively project their own intentions in theirs. They are quick to identify the state of humans (sad, happy, drunk, sick etc...), determine whether a person likes or dislikes (or is afraid of) them as well as which people are "dominant" and which are potential threats.

People who don't like dogs tend to fall into two main categories; ones that had a traumatic experience with a dog and was never able to overcome it and those who lack empathy. A dog who is raised properly doesn't want to hurt anybody and is both loving and loyal.

The only negative about a good dog is that they don't live long enough.

The OP created a thread lauding our QB for his charitable work with animal shelters, and you come along and hijack it with your non-sense.

What's the matter? Can't find any puppies to kick or baby seals to club today? Run along.

I was only funnin about your dog's "hands". Those light-weight frisbees suck even in a moderate wind while the heavy ones can hurt your dogs teeth. That's why I use the Sonic Disc Flyer. It is heavy, but semi-soft, so it performs in wind and doesn't hurt their teeth. Just make sure you get the "large" one as the others are too small for your dog. They're on the expensive side, so you'll probably want to use a couple so you don't have tug-of-wars with them between throws. They're also sorta porous so it takes some effort to keep them clean.

One of my Border Collies was half Aussie. They are sweet dogs, but are a lot of work. Does your Aussie ever smile?

She gives both the "teeth" smile and the happy tongue hanging smile that you see in labs and retrievers and pretty much every dog.

^ That's not my dog but I've seen that known as the "aussie smile" in a lot of circles. It's unique and weird/awesome. She always does it when shes on her back getting a belly scratch.

Edit: Thanks for the link and info too, i'll look into it for sure. I have a rubberized heavier dog frisbee but its 1.) too heavy and 2.) flies to the right no matter how you throw it. My lighter plastic ones need to be handled with gloves now (wasn't too cold in the video but my dogs made the edges not pleasant to grip bare handed) and they all crack along the curves before too long.

Doesn't look like anyone here has shown any signs of being an irresponsible pet lover. I also don't consider myself an "owner" really, they're family and treated as such.

Your criticism is completely irrelevant. This has turned into a pretty nice thread thanks to your attempted hijacking. I like it!

I'm willing to bet that you've never owned a Golder Retriever......with a personality more pleasant than a majority of the people in this world.........

I know the video is not a Golden but the same family and it makes a point.....

We had a dog exactly like that when our kids were young. They used to take him for rides at the lake by throwing sticks in the water and hanging onto his tail.

Guys, we may be judging this all too quickly.

I'll be honest here. Pitbulls, Dobermans and Rotties have nothing on my dogs. I'm not sure how many people realize this but Jack Russell Terrier is one of the world's most dangerous breeds credited with many incidents of aggression. While smaller in stature, the JRT is capable of unimaginable acts of raw aggression, as I will demonstrate below.

First, let's take a look at the JRT in viciously patrolling it's natural habitat:

See how the viciousness of the gaze keeps all foes at bay?

And here we have a couple of JRTs stalking this innocent child as their prey:

Note the demonic eye glare. JRTs use this superpower just before they attack to strike fear into their victim's hearts and render them unable to fight back.

And finally, a fearsome brute, best not to get your hands too close to this one:

That is quite a maw. I know I'd think twice about coming to close to this vicious animal.

I think these horrifying photos stand on their own and provide insight into the fearsome world of dog aggression.

I hope the kid survived this attack, this is truly horrific! How did these creatures get into your house? Help spare us the same fate!

The child did survive but it was a close call.

Woefully, I was lax with my home security and they infiltrated us by pretending to be adorable. Now they force us to do their bidding, whether it be walks, rope-throwing or ham delivery. Don't let this happen to you! Stay strong!

It's too late, this pair of savages has already infiltrated my home, they aren't biters, no, they're much more clever.

They are experts at positioning themself between you and your destination without you noticing in an effort to trip you, they prefer you are carrying items such as boiling water or sharp knives, maybe expensive place settings.

The actual research on this is amazing. When dogs first joined our tribes and clans as "domesticated" animals, the course of human history was changed forever. Anthropologists and archeologists see a shift in a wide range of habits that influence the destiny of our species, including hunting, foraging, communicating, mating, and family behaviors. It isn't unreasonable to say that just about everything would be different for us now if we hadn't picked up a relationship with canines.

Here's a more on topic way of saying it: Without dogs, there probably would be no football.

Truly insidious and horrifically premeditated. I'm not sure how these diabolical canines get away with these shenanigans. Where's the humanity?

And that darker one staring you down, daring you to take photographic evidence as if to say, "no one's going to believe you, you know, so go ahead and try to implicate us". Meanwhile, the white one pretends it didn't just push that toy into prime tripping space.

Clever indeed.

Our family collie/aussie got "lost" one day. We got a call that she was herding several [wild] children on a street corner. We show up and there is about 6 children dressed in goloshes and rain coats with one in particular in a white fleece jacket. While waiting for the school bus, Anna had found them and had huddled them all up in a tight pack (found out afterwards that she had pushed the mildly apprehensive kids where she wanted them with her nose) and was circling protectively around them.

At no point in their lives were those children safer from wolves than at that moment.

That's awesome, my Aussie doesn't have much of that natural instinct but the white dog in my picture (3/4 aussie shep, 1/4 samoyed) is 14 now, mostly blind and near deaf, I've found Maddie (pure aussie shep) "guiding" her around the house. It's cute, she is herding her in a sense to her favorite spots, Natasha is fully capable of getting around on her own, she knows the house inside and out, but its still cute watching the 2yr old guide the old lady when shes bored.

Some of those instincts never go away.

Don't know why I did not ding the dog-basher on this thread, but I suspect love of animals is proportional with the ability to get along with people.
