No Boger, No Carey, No Hochuli and no Morelli
Are you talking about Mike Carey? He's retired and works for CBS the same way Pereira works for FOX now.

Sorry I meant Tripplette, i just mixed them up

I see. BJGE likes him for the TD he gave him last year. He also screwed up the downs in the Giants/Washington game the week before.

Who is Leavy going to call PI on in a Colts vs. Forehead game? Leavy will probably say for every call, #39 on the defense and they will show a picture of Browner on the Jumbotron.

Vinovich was also the ref in the Steelers -Ravens game earlier this year. The Steelers won that game 43-23. The Ravens were flagged 10 times to the Steelers 7 times.

From the looks of his stats/percentages, Vinovich calls a little under league average for penalties and yards, and slightly fewer penalties on the home team.
Thats a good thing. Flacco wont get away with 60 yard PI's every other play. And a break for Browner.
I was just hoping it wasn't Hochuli's crew.

Not much has been made of the Ravens having such a HUGE penalty advantage over the Steelers last week. According to NFL.com the yardage was 114 to 14. That is almost an incomprehensible gap, especially in a playoff game. Yet in all the commentary from that game, I haven't heard about it being a factor from anyone. Let alone the 3-0 turnover gap.

If you want to look at it one way, the Steelers out passed and out rushed the Ratbirds, but lost because they turned over the ball 3 times without getting one back, and gave them an extra 100 yd advantage in penalties. Sounds a lot more about the Steelers giving a game away than the Ravens taking one. But that's not part of the narrative this week

No Hochuli, Blakeman or Leavy. That's great.
No Booger Boger. That's the biggest relief.

I hate that the NFL has devolved to where fans have to worry or even care about who the had ref is. Not long ago they were faceless, nameless and interchangeable. Now they have "personalities" and "reputations."

I just want them to interpret the rules correctly for both teams....if they are calling something a certain way for one team, like defensive holding, then call it the same way for both teams.

The best scenario is that we don't notice the refs very much at all. A great game in the NHL is often one where you notice the game and not the zebras (blatant calls you have to make, obviously).

...and why the players are at it, stop begging for calls, go out there and play...the NFL is getting as bad as soccer lately. Stop begging and start playing...

I too, would have preferred Steratore. The guy always officiates with confidence/authority, and never appears to question his own/crews' flags. But I'll take Vinovich, who is another not-taking-any-******** ref.
His explanations are by far the best too.

Not the best but not the worst I just hope they are consistent with there calls.

Which Crew they are with tells the whole story. Make of that what you will.

U Rich Hall (49)--Hochuli
HL Wayne Mackie (106)---Steratore
LJ Gary Arthur (108)--Steratore
FJ Dave Meslow (118)--Blakeman
SJ Jimmy DeBell (58)--Vinovich
BJ Tony Steratore (112)--Boger

Tony Steratore? Normally works with Boger, the worst crew there is.

Ugh.

FJ from Blakeman's crew? Any chance he's one of the guys who said pick up the flag @ Carolina?

If by Bill Vinovich you mean the Bill Vinovich who isn't Jerome Boger then this is good news.
Or the one who isn't Jeff Triplette...

No Booger Boger. That's the biggest relief.

There's some of that that's changed I'm sure, but I believe it's mostly due to the boom of information we have now that the internet is not just mainstream, but an integral part of daily life for us. Back when most fans were getting 90% of their sports news from a newspaper, the Globe wasn't going to use up a lot of page space talking about referees and penalty reputations. I guarantee you those reputations still existed back then, and the players and coaches sure knew them.

These "all star" crews make no sense too...Gene Steratore has the Cowboys @ Packers game so why take 2 of his crew away from him for Vinovich to have?

Logic would dictate you keep them all together if they were good enough to be considered part of an all star crew.

If we lose this game to the Ravens, once again due to `the fix is in` officiating, I will put serious thought into boycotting the NFL next season. Too much emotional investment to get hosed by the zebras after 18 weeks. I can't even imagine how the players themselves would feel.

Even our narrow 2011 AFCCG win against Baltimore had highly questionable officiating in favor of the Ravens. Does anyone remember our defensive back (I forget which one) being dragged into the endzone by his facemask by the fully extended arm of the Ravens receiver, making a tackle impossible, 3 feet in front of a referee?
