With today's win, the Patriots extended their AFC-record streak for 9+-win seasons to 14 (i.e., every year since Brady became a starter). Only the 49ers have a longer streak, at 16 seasons.

To put this in perspective: other than the 49ers, the next longest streaks belong to the Raiders, Steelers, and Colts at just nine seasons.

And a question: assuming that any team with an active streak extends it through this year, what will be the next longest streak of 9-win seasons after the Patriots'?

didn't Rayge Rayge write off the Pats streak 6 years ago?

Does Rayge Rayge even understand what a winning season is?

ObStory: Greeny, of Mike and Mike infamy, hosted a game show on ABC called Duel a few years ago.* Contestants who won five games could win $500K, but they would have to risk the money already won to do so. I would have loved to see a Patriots fan go on that show, win a game, and then say something like "I know you're a fan of the J-E-T-S, so you're obviously not familiar with the concept of a five-game win streak."

*He did a surprisingly good job, IMO.

Picking 9+ wins is little misleading, though, simply because that's the current winning season definition but hasn't always been. The Dallas Cowboys have the record for most consecutive winning seasons at 20, from 1966 to 1985. They won 9 games in 18 of them; they "only" went 8-6 in 1974 (14 game schedule) and went 6-3 in a strike-shortened 1982 season.

Still says something that the Pats are up in such company.

Actually you are right and you are wrong. 16 games is the current NFL season, so 9+ is the standard.

Any record before the merger should be in it's own category. And the 14 game season, as well as strike seasons, should be in their own category.

I've always said that the Jets SB win should have an * as it was before the merger. Had the merger taken place and the Colts were in the AFC, the Jets probably would not have even made it to the SB. Different eras should have their own records and not mixed with the modern era.

Iapatsfan is super pissed because his 7-9 prediction went down the drain

It's an embarrassment of riches.

16 is really impressive given that they swapped QBs in there, too.
