Pat Kirwin on the Pats

I think it may be sarcasm, but I can't be sure. My limited intellect combined with Joker's dynamic nature makes it really hard to tell sometimes.

Well, if it was sarcasm, it went way over my head!

Much as I love that thought, there are 6 games to play and that is ridiculously early to state that with any certitude.

Kirwin cannot be THAT stupid.

So silly. God forbid something happens to Brady or Gronk, everything changes.

Kirwan is an integral part of the NFL national scribe fraternity. That includes the likes of Greg Easterbrook.Listen to "Smiling Faces" by the Temptations when you get a chance..

I've been an NFL fan for almost 6 decades. That means I've seen ,heard and read all these media whores ad nauseum. It's OK for Kirwan to think what he wants but when he makes known via a national forum that the Patriots are going to the Super Bowl after just 10 games, and declares it to be FACT, then I must assume, as experience has taught me all these years, that he's TROLLING. He's making an open invitation to every team in the NFL left on their schedule to go into their games bent on playing like it's THEIR Super Bowl and THEY are huge underdogs. That is scumbag journalism to me. Sorry.

So when Kirwin says he now has the Pats as the favorite to go to the SuperBowl from the AFC that means that he really hates the Pats and wants them to lose?

Wow. Tough crowd....

Wow, I can't tell if I've fallen into the "sar-chasm" on Joker's replies... (sarchasm: "the gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it")... Kirwin is definitely on New England's side... his sidekick Jim Miller was a backup in 2004 for the Pats. Their respect for the org is palpable. IMO, those two guys are a couple of thee best, yes "thee" best in the business.

#1 seed locked up? What if we lose to DET and GB? We are screwed....lots of games to be played. If we have to play IN DEnver..it will be tough..them here...forget about it

Complete guess on my part, but I'd bet that Kirwan was far less definitive in his statements than the text implies.

Pats have a ONE-game lead on the Chiefs, who get two gimmes with the Raiders.

Long way to go. One game at a time.

I'm not worried about the Chefs. They are having a nice little season but if the Pats play them in the playoffs they will have a huge, legitimate, chip on their shoulders.

FYI I don't think Alex Smith has thrown a TD to a WR all year.

I agree. If we tie KC in record, they get home field and it's basically impossible to win at arrowhead.

Well, historically that's true until the first game of the post season...

Plus, it's not like he was making some off-the-wall prediction/commentary. The Pats are currently the number 1 seed in the AFC, with tie breaker wins over all three of the other division leaders with six games left. They have just decisively beaten the two teams that most observers had pegged as the other contenders for the top seed: the Broncos and the Colts. Not to mention that the Patriots have a six game win streak and have been playing really good football in recent weeks.

If not the Pats, which team would you say is the favorite, today, to get the top seed and homefield advantage in the AFC tournament?

But, what if the Pats lose a game? What if the Colts lose a game? What if the Broncos lose a game? What if the Bengals lose a game? What if the Chiefs lose a game? Everybody needs to win.

Chiefs schedule going forward is easier. One away game is arizona. Other than that not that hard. Probably will beat denver.

He was basically outlining what is most likely to happen, based on where the top teams in the AFC stand after this weekend's games. A game up with tiebreakers in hand is huge this late in the season. Odds are that the Pats can lose a game, go 5-1 over the last six games, and still get the #1 seed. If they go 5-1, the current division leaders (Broncos, Colts, and Bengals) can't catch them. Even if the Pats lose 2 games, they still have a decent shot of the top seed as the Broncos, Colts, and Bengals have all shown that they are hardly invincible. If the Pats lose 2 games, one of those three teams would have to win out (6-0).

The Chiefs are the fly in the ointment, but only if they can get past the Broncos for the division lead. To do that, they pretty much have to beat the Broncos in their remaining game.

we play Miami at home
Miami at home in December is a very big deal. If the Pats had lost that first game at home and were scheduled to go to Miami, I'd be very nervous about winning the division. The Dolphins coming here makes the likelihood of running the table in games 14-16 (all AFC East games) quite likely.

The one loss I see on the schedule is Green Bay.

And win out themselves.

I don't put much stock in trying to figure out harder and easier schedules. Who would have predicted the Rams would be a "harder" game for the Broncos?

Last season's loss to Miami still gives me nitemares so I'll worry about seeding when we have fewer games left to decide. We still have a third of a season to go.

Miami is in Denver this week - should be a good game...

The Pats are 8-2. AGAIN, I say that insures they won't have a losing season. The Pats were 2.5 point underdogs yesterday in Indy. I, A RABID PATRIOT FAN, love that the touts and wiseguys are reacting to the prevailing public opinion about MY team.

Therefore I most certainly despise ANY media whore making PUBLIC STATEMENTS as if they were fact that are broadcast to a NATIONAL AUDIENCE and declare the Patriots are a huge favorite to win the Super Bowl now...today. The only outcomes from such a declaration are ALL BAD FOR MY TEAM GOING FORWARD!

Now, if you want to degenerate this issue by taking it into the "rights of a free press!!!!" and "he's a friend of Joey Baggs the ex-ticket puncher at the Razor!!!" I will deign to bow out this right here. I'm not asking to abridge poor Pat Kirwan's stellar career. I'm saying I HATE his opening up of this friggin' can of worms and changing or attempting to change the prevailing landscape wherein the Patriots are underdogs to Indy but NOW will be preposterous, so called unstoppable favorites against every team left. I DESPISE THIS and I will not change my opinion as a fan of the NEP. You can hob nob and knob polish Kirwan the rest of the goddamned season but don't tell ME I can't hold MY OPINION because it runs contrary to your warm fuzzy thoughts for a media whore.

I guess we should root for the Broncos to win now since KC is the bigger threat.

do you really want to go TO KC to play the AFCCG? Anointed as the HUGE FAVORITE to win it all? I don't. Brady got crippled there. Brady got emasculated there this season. I'll take our chances against the Moonheaded Menace in Denver with the current roster intact. Want no part of Arrowhead.
