Peyton "rule change" Manning at it again

This report is from Boston.com.......
Tom Brady hasn't even thrown a pass in his comeback, and he's already affected change for the 2009 NFL season.
In part because of the season-ending left knee injury that Brady suffered in the Patriots' 2008 season opener against the Chiefs.......

I don't see any quotes of my favorite quarterback complaining about the rules. Just a decade plus of your guy doing it.

At the risk of being unpopular, I'm gonna have to agree with the giant forehead on this one.

Determining something as crucial as first offensive possession in a sudden death overtime situation with completely random chance is ridiculous in the NFL in this day and age.

Imagine (fellow Bruins fan out there) losing a big game in overtime because the NHL replaced faceoffs with rock, paper, scissors, to give the first puck possession to the opponent. I'd be pretty pissed, just as I'd be pissed if the Pats fought their way back in the 4th quarter of a game just to lose without Brady taking the field because we picked the wrong picture on a silver coin.

I don't know what a better option is - a full period of play or the college volley rules would probably be too demanding on players, considering TNF and how long the season is already, etc. But this coin toss crap is definitely ludicrous.

I've read plenty on the rule. The rule was changed after the Palmer injury. And the rule was changed/extneded after Brady........so the rule did change......and as result of Brady getting hurt right????? I'm not sure what you're arguing. You admit the rule was altered after the Brady hit. Was any rule changed for Manning?

I notice how you conveniently leave out any citing of the Tuck Rule. Besides, you're arguing a rule regarding player safety vs many rules that Peyton has impacted regarding play on the field as it relates to winning and losing. Those are two totally different arguments, especially considering there have been rule changes in the way people tackle made for other superstar players. Peyton's rule changes always change the game from an X's and O's perspective more than anything else. The fact that all-world corners all seem to be struggling to start off the young season is all Peyton.

Think about it some more. Not flaming you. Just pointing out what I think is a flaw in your overall argument.

The more humble time to bring up the unfairness of the rule would be after you won using it.

Absolutely agree. It sucked not having our offense get a shot at it, but that's the rule, the same as it was when Tebow won and the Steelers didn't get a shot. However, Peyton wasn't on the team when we benefited from the overtime rule, so he couldn't comment after that one.

Peyton finally put together a great drive, after the offense struggled, but scored to force overtime. They interviewed him after the game and he seemed bummed out that he didn't get the ball. Can you really lablel him "rule change" Manning, because he said there's a premium on the coin toss? I don't recall Manning getting rules changed before.

Thank you for being non biased on this one. I'm far from a homer and very objective and critical of the Broncos. I just don't see how Peyton's labeled a whinner on this one. And I don't remember any "Manning Rules".

We did beat the Steelers a couple years ago in overtime, and honestly they got robbed a little bit, but that's the rule. Peyton just gave his opinion. The 4th quarter of that game was great TV. Win, lose, or draw, I think many people would say they would've liked to see more of that overtime.

No offense taken, I actually appreciate hearing the different viewpoint. I didn't leave out the tuck rule, I had mentioned it in the post right before the low hit on QB rule. All I was saying was the Brady Tuck rule is more notorious than any other time the rule was enforced. In addition, I'm not familiar with a history of rule changes for Peyton. I assume you're talking about the contact after 5 yards. I know you guys and gals don't know me that well, but I'm notorious for saying don't blame the refs. I do believe the refs are going overboard with the calls, some teams go overboard with holding. The Seahawks has our offenses number and I'm not using this as an excuse, I'm just supporting my previous statement, neither of these drew flags:

I always thought rock, paper, scissors would be more fun than a coin toss. Peyton:"Rock really isn't as powerful as it should be, how the heck can paper crush my almighty rock?"

How about all those illegal pick plays you guys run? We ran ONE just ONE in the AFCCG and were flagged for it. Denver did it on almost every play. Wanna know how many times it was flag?

Not arguing that at all, no excuses from me. We do run designed "pick plays". If they flag us for it, they flag us for it. That's pretty much the point of crossing routes/ bunch formations.

In my opinion, this is a well design play designed by the Chiefs using the TE on the left to get in the way of MLB to free up a crossing TE, not mad at this:

What is commonly called the "Brady rule"--that you can't dive at a QB's knees--is actually the Palmer Rule. The "Brady Rule" is a small extension of that rule that is almost never called, and it states that you can't lunge from the ground at a QB's knees.

The tuck rule was called many times before the 2001 playoff game, and has been called since. Willful ignorance is the only possible way that anyone could figure that that's a "Brady rule"

Not sure, but fair enough, LOL!
Agreed. I wasn't trying to hijack the thread into a political debate; just trying for a little humor.
Have a great day!

2004...

Rule changes..........like the penalty for hitting a QB low, mysteriously being implemented after Brady got hurt??????

Brushing the dust of the rule book to find the tuck rule...............

Calling a faceguarding penalty during the AFCC.. a rule that doesnt even exist.

Calling pushing during a field goal... a brand new rule called only once all year.
