The 2014 Mock draft Thread.

One of the most exciting things for me is the UDFA signing frenzy that immediately follows the draft.
I take my copy of the top undrafted players from Great Blue North Draft Report and see how much
success the Patriots have in signing any of these players. Last year, they signed more of them than previous years. They even claimed a couple of them after the 53 man cut. With the presence of
twitter and other social media, the Patriots cannot hide this information from the fans.

And with a deeper draft this year, there should be more opportunities for Bill to sign quality UDFAs at positions like RB & WR, so that he doesn't have to expend draft capital there.

Trade Ryan Mallett and #62 to Houston in exchange for #33
Trade #29 and #93 to Tampa Bay in exchange for #38 and #69
Trade #33 to Arizona in exchange for #52, #84, and #160

38-Dominique Easley
52-Deone Bucannon
69-Gabe Jackson
84-C.J. Fiedorowicz
130-Brandon Coleman
140-Kevin Pierre-Louis
160-Brandon Thomas
198-David Fales
206-Lorenzo Taliaferro
244-Terrence Fede

Jeff Risdon's 7-rounder: http://football.realgm.com/src_article/2457/20140507/final_7_round_nfl_mock_draft/

1. Marqise Lee, WR, USC. "The Patriots are unpredictable, so I opted with the player with the highest upside at a relative position of need here. Could be Marcus Martin, could be C.J. Mosley, could be Cyrus Kouandjio. It also could be Tom Savage, in conjunction with a Ryan Mallett trade."
2. Troy Niklas, TE, Notre Dame
3. C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa
4a. Tre Mason, RB, Auburn
4b. Wesley Johnson, C/T, Vanderbilt
6a. L.J. McCray, S, Catawba
6b. B.J. Lowery, CB, Iowa
7. John Urschel, G, Penn State

Don't blame me. I'm just the messenger. :)

I like the balance of the picks. I think the key to the Patriots draft is what they get in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds.

People are becoming WAY too enamored with Coleman's size. I've been consistently underwhelmed with everything I've seen from him.

Same. I might actually put him in the "too tall" category. Sure, Megatron is 6'5" but he has incredible body control, awareness and coordination. Most guys that are 6'6" don't have any of that and I'm not sure Coleman does. Not to mention his route running.

My final mock : P This is the draft I'd like to have not the one i predict.

#29 - TRADE - For #37 & #101

#37 - Deone Bucannon - SS - This is not a matter of a guy rising up my board so much as other guys falling. I am no longer really interested in taking Ealy or Hageman @29 after what i keep hearing about them the past few weeks. Bucannon to me is a legit NFL starter that is not a first round pick due to a very good S class and the fact he is not the prototype hard hitter like Pryor. (Alternative Pick: Ward - SS - I just think Safety has great value here for us and is a need. Either guy be good but Bucannon is my preference).

#62 - ASJ - TE - If he is stil here you almost have to take him. The need for a TE is just too much. When it comes down to it I just don't trust Niklas (seems raw) and CJ (doesn't have true starter ability i think). I might take Niklas here but would not feel good about it. (Alternate picks: Easley - DT/DE, Attacho - DE/OLB or Niklas - TE)

#93 - C. Jones - LB - dude is a flat out playmaker (Alternative picks: Tripp or Borland)

#101 - Travis Swanson - C - After looking at the centers all off season i keep flip flopping about where they are relative to value. The truth is a i think a group of 3 are all pretty close. Just go with the left over one here which is likely Swanson. (Alternate picks: Any of the top Centers)

At this point I don't see a guy who is going to have a big impact on us this year. So now come the injured guys and odds and ends.

- TRADE - #130 to Jax for #150 & #179 (not sure if this adds up but seems about right).

#140 - Brandon Thomas - OL
#150 - DeAnthony Thomas - RB - he is gonna need to be taken this high now i think. I know he probably can't block but asking a guy like this to block is a waste anyway. Let him have his 5-10 plays a game and call it a day).
#179 - Wesley Johnson - OL (can back up all spots on the line)
#192 - Tyler Gaffney - RB - If you wanted a more all purpose RB here he is. A few other guys like him you can grab as well that will be serviceable if he is not there <bye Bolden; too bad you had to get off the steriods :( >
#206 - KPL - OLB - If he is still here i say roll the dice. If not grab another LB and see what happens. No big deal if he doesn't pain out cause your top 4 are all set.
#244 - Terrence Fede - DE - If you believe a guy can be something then don't let him go to FA. Pick Fede here and you get first crack at him.

Get a Keller for TE or pick up an UDFA and let him try out. Ideally the later.

final roster

Offense - 24

QB - 2 - Brady Mallet
WR - 5 - Edelman Dobson LaFell Amendola ????? (maybe Boyce/Thompkins/Harrison IDK)
TE - 4 - Gronk Keller ASJ Hooman
OT - 4 - Solder Vollmer Cannon Johnson
OG - 3 - Mankins Connolly Kline (Cannon also backs this up)
C - 2 - Swanson Wendell
RB/FB - 4 - Rildey Vereen Thomas Gaffney (Hooman takes over more FB duties this year)

CB - 5 - Revis Browner Dennard Ryan Arrington
S - 5 - McCourty Bucannon Harmon Ebron Chung (Ryan also backs this up)
