Anyone whose knows anything knows that the struggle on offense was in part of not getting any production out of the TE position when Gronk wasn't in there.

Pats right now are looking at the same situation as last year with the TE. Who knows if Gronk starts the season and if he'll make it through.

I know there is the draft but can't rely on a rookie TE if Gronk misses time.

If he wants to go out as a SB champion, this is his opportunity. He must realize that the Pats are all in this year with the moves they are making. Plus, I imagine he would enjoy catching passes from the G.O.A.T.

It may not be likely, but I wouldn't completely rule it out.

the Falcons gave him 7 million to come back, his the best TE to ever play the game but paying a 38 year old that kind of money IMO is crazy

I just had this conversation last night. I absolutely expect Bill to at least look into it.

Atlanta will want SOMETHING for his rights.. no doubt about it. But I suspect something could be worked out if Tony wanted to come here.

Gonzalez has no interest in playing a whole season. If the Pats get to 12-2 and want him for a Super Bowl run, then they should reach out to him.

The Falcons released him so they have no rights to him.

he's not going to do it for chump change either folks.

He already took a job at NBC he seems rather content with being retired.

I agree that Gonzalez should consider us if he wants to be a SB champ, but I disagree about us being all-in this year.

We haven't really mortgaged future cap space irresponsibly for today, so I would just say it's business as usual. Denver is the team that is all-in, giving $20M guaranteed to 31-year old Ware who struggled with injuries last season, and the ridiculous contract to Talib, who also comes with major injury concerns.

Nothing we've done has handicapped our future ability to make moves. They're all good deals so far, and Edelman's should be in line with that. Revis was a one-year rental at a reasonable cap hit of $7M, with a chance to extend, while Browner for 3 years $17M is a pretty solid deal for a 29-year old starting corner. Edelman should be a reasonable deal as well for a 27-year old receiver who knows our system. In 3 years time, we should feel good about all of those deals still. I can't say the same about the Broncos.

I suppose we could send them flowers, but he is an unrestricted free agent so they get nothing. Gonzalez (I.e. Gonzalez' agent) was clever. He structured his contract in such a way that they would have to cut him unless he signed retirement papers.

And the fact that he did not sign those retirement papers, IMHO, says quite a bit.

Really?? How in the world did I miss that? Wow. Awesome.

They released him because he hasn't filed for retirement and was due a roster bonus.

I mean the guy says he is gonna retire, you'd think one of the first things he would do is officially retire.

Week 2 or 3 of the pre-season a team that Gonzalez thinks is a contender calls and offers him around what he is looking for to play 1 season he'll be there the next day.

Well, he is not content enough to put pen to paper on the matter..... hmmmmm................

Didn't he take Dan Marino's spot on the CBS pre-game show? That's one of the sweeter media jobs. He's done playing.

This. If Gonzo does come back it will be when the season is half way over at the least. If we get the chance we should absolutely sign him at that point (even if Gronk is healthy and our projected rookie TE(s) is doing very well.

I am not going to worry about it until about week 8. Then it will be interesting to try to find out which way the wind is blowing in the gonzo camp.

This guy HAS to have a clause in that CBS contract that gives him and out to play if the right situation presents itself.

If you follow him on Twitter and/or FB, you'll see that he is VERY serious about staying fit year round. He and his family are very much into living a healthy lifestyle and preaching it on to others. So if he does decide to play, I wouldn't worry too much about his conditioning. He should be able to get into game shape pretty fast. that's why Atlanta had no problem with him basically skipping most of camp last season.

Should Bill reach out to Tony Gonzalez?

You mean he hasn't?

If Gonzo goes anywhere it will be after TC - because TC is not comfortable and he's old.

Not if it means Shannon Sharpe gets his job back.
