The 2014 Mock draft Thread.

#29 to the Vikings for #40, #72, and #104

#62-Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE
#67-Marcus Martin, OL
#72-Joel Bitonio, OL
#93-C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE
#104-Antonio Exum, DB
#190-Jonathan Dowling, DB
#221-Michael Campanaro, WR

Ryan Mallett, #126, and #182 to the Texans for #33 and #67

I'd love to see it, but that values Mallett as equal to #26 overall.

There's so much speculation and smoke and mirrors this time of year but with that caveat there's speculation that the Texans won't go QB and recently that neither will the Browns. So lets pretend it's true for the sake of discussion and two of Bortles, Manziel and Bridgewater actually fall all the way down to the 20's along with Carr. On the one hand that pretty much crushes anybody we want falling to 29. On the other hand it could increase the value of 29 with the value of getting one of those guys at the end of the first being huge. It would be interesting to mock that out. I will say the premise still assumes two of the Jags, Raiders and Titans pass on a QB.

So we're drafting a corner in the first?

The more I see of Gaines there's zero chance he's around that late. Even CBS has up to the 4th round. I think he's gone in round 2.

In honor of DW Toys I name your mock DB-A-POLOOZAAAA!!!!

I love this list of UDFA's but I'll be shocked if a few of those go undrafted especially Murphy, Dowling, Vereen and a few of the CBs. In a normal draft all of those CBs would get drafted but this class is just so deep.

Nice draft Tipp. If we can sign Jared Allen and a WR, to go with that. We're looking pretty good IMO.

That's the point.

2014 is not a normal draft and I envision a number of prospects "falling thru the cracks", so to speak.

Nice draft Tipp. If we can sign Jared Allen and a WR, to go with that. We're looking pretty good IMO.
If Wilfork is cut or his contract restructured (wishful thinking at this point in time), the New England Patriots most likely could afford to re-sign Julian Edelman.

Right now even without releasing Wilfork they can afford him, especially if they're a bit v creative with his contract.

I don't have a problem with that. Sign Edelman and cut Amendola after the 2014 season. Unless he lights it up. I think Dobson can become that bigger outside target we need. Gronk becomes that red zone weapon again. I'm not looking to replace Gronk with a similiar te. Ain't any out there. If he goes down again we have Edelman and Amendola in the slots. I wouldn't be against drafting Jordan Matthews in Round 2. Him and Dobson on the outside gives us two pretty big targets with speed too.

Quick version, post Brandon Browner signing.

Housekeeping:

- Release Vince Wilfork. Frees up $8M in cap space, giving us about $18M before the Browner signing (probably about $15M to work with).

Possible later releases include Adrian Wilson ($1.1M) and Dan Connolly ($2.5M). Connolly could also be restructured or extended to lower his cap hit. Extensions to Devin McCourty and Stephen Gostkowski can add another $2M. Those moves should cover the rookies, PS, and contingency funds.

Free Agency:

1. Sign UFA OC Alex Mack (Cleveland). Tricky, since he has received the transition tag from Cleveland, but not impossible. Say 5 years / $40M with $20M guaranteed. 2014 cap hit around $5M.

2. Sign UFA WR James Jones (Green Bay). Say something similar to Hakeem Nicks money (2 years / $7M would work). 2014 cap hit around $3M.

3. Sign UFA DE Corey Wootton (Chicago). Can play LDE in a rotation, or move inside. Say 3 years / $10M. 2014 cap it around $3M.

4. Re-sign UFA RB LeGarrette Blount. Say 2 years / $5M. Or sign Knowshon Moreno if Blount gets more elsewhere (Moreno might be a better fit in any case, though I suspect he'll get more than Blount). 2014 cap hit around $2M.

5. Re-sign UFA LB Dane Fletcher. Say 2 years / $2M (roughly Hooman money). 2014 cap hit around $900K.

6. Trade Ryan Mallett to Houston for #33. Still hanging on to this one for now.

I'd like Will Svitek back, but for now I've left it off as this is already tight on cap space.

2014 Draft:

- Trade 29 + 62 to Pittsburgh for #15 if Aaron Donald is still on the board.

15. Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh. Currently NFL DraftScout #16. Donald creating disruption inside will take this defense to the top 2-3 range.

- Trade 33 to Jacksonville for 39 and 102.

- Trade 39 to St. Louis for 44 and a 4th round pick.

44. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington. Currently NFL DraftScout #45. ASJ drops because of his foot injury and inability to work out.

93. Joel Bitonio, OL, Nevada. Currently NFL DraftScout #96.

102. Phillip Gaines, CB, Rice. Currently NFL DraftScout #148. Revis understudy.

4b. Christian Jones, LB, Florida St. (#123) or Jordan Tripp, LB, Montana (#116). Versatile LBs who can play in space.

4c. Antone Exum, DB, Virginia Tech. Currently NFL DraftScout #138. Browner understudy.

6a. Logan Thomas, QB, Virginia Tech (#229) or Connor Shaw, QB, South Carolina (#203). Backup and developmental QB. Other options are possible.

6b. Michael Campanaro, WR, Wake Forest. Currently NFL DraftScout #209. Edelman replacement.

6 (comp). Matt Patchan, OT, Boston College. Currently NFL DraftScout #196. Developmental swing tackle.

7. Trey Millard, FB/H-Back, Oklahoma (#239) or Gator Hoskins, FB/H-Back, Marshall (#265). H-Back and all-purpose offensive weapon.

Tentative Roster:

QB: Tom Brady, Logan Thomas/Connor Shaw.
RB: Shane Vereen, LeGarrette Blount/Knowshon Moreno, Stevan Ridley, Brandon Bolden
FB: James Develin, Trey Millard/Gator Hoskins
WR: Danny Amendola, James Jones, Aaron Dobson, Kenbrell Thompkins, Josh Boyce, Michael Campanaro.
TE: Rob Gronkowski, Austin Seferian Jenkins, Michael Hoomanawanui, Mark Harrison (hybrid WR/move TE)
OT: Nate Solder, Sebastian Vollmer, Marcus Cannon, Matt Patchan. Joel Bitonio can also play OT.
OG/C: Logan Mankins, Alex Mack, Joel Bitonio, Josh Kline/Dan Connolly. Marcus Cannon can also play OG. Joel Bitonio would function as the backup center if Connolly is cut.

DT: Tommy Kelly, Aaron Donald, Sealver Siliga, Chris Jones, Armond Armstead.
DE: Chandler Jones, Rob Ninkovich, Corey Wootton, Michael Buchanan. Armond Armstead, Dont'a Hightower and Jamie Collins will also get snaps at DE.
LB: Jerod Mayo, Dont'a Hightower, Jamie Collins, Christian Jones/Jordan Tripp, Dane Fletcher.
S: Devin McCourty, Brandon Browner, Duron Harmon, Antone Exum, Nate Ebner/Tavon Wilson (STer). Browner and Exum can also play outside CB.
CB: Darrelle Revis, Alfonzo Dennard, Logan Ryan, Kyle Arrington, Phillip Gaines.

ST: Stephen Gostkowki, Ryan Allen, Danny Aiken, Matt Slater.

I like it a lot, Mayo. It's not my ideal, but it's close and very very good.
