I think they'd try to back-fill more in year 5 and 6 and less in year 4 to balance things out if possible, that way they could keep him for year 4 and cut him after that with only a $5.6M cap hit.

The Browns just have the most cap room of the suitors looking for him and unless he is the highest paid player in the NFL, every team that is pursuing Revis can pay him.

I thought about that and I agree you have legit points. My only concern is that if year 4's salary is too low, then the average value of the first 4 years goes below $15.

I could probably shave a couple million off year 4, making the first 4 years of the contract worth about $58. But I figure the cap will be ~$200 mil by then.

That's not true. They have paid top dollar to Seymour, Wilfork, Mankins, Mayo, and other home grown talent. No free agent has ever been as big as Revis on the open market. He isn't only arguably the best CB in the NFL, he is arguably the best player in the NFL (at least if returns to 2011 form this year).

Gotta learn to take hype with a grain of salt. Revis is called Mevis for a reason. So he may take the best deal which probably won't come from the pats. But at least they are trying to get him and the interest seems to be mutual.

He would love to stick it to the jets twice a year you can bet on that.

Cousins, I have issue thinking the Pats will spend that much on Revis. I love the dream but it won't happen. This is not the Pats philosophy. I hope I am wrong. There is a bidding war as we speak.

I would rather do this. Let's sign Brandon Browner on a one year and put him at SS after his 4 game hiatus. He had a miraculous 23 PD in 2011. Give Logan Ryan the keys to the car and go. Browner is one of the best hitting and covering big corners and at 6'3" and 230lbs he lays the wood. Now I want Julius Peppers and Jared Allen to rotate with Chandler Jones and move Ninkovitch to MLB.

If VW and Tommy Kelly are back and Nink in the middle, you have an upgrade on our run "D". Now you have a rotation better than any(including the Broncos) to get to Peyton. The three kid DT's are a great rotation there.

Pressure on the QB makes a CB Pro Bowl caliber.
