Edelman offered 3-year deal, he opts to test free agency

Whether he is upset with the deadline, the two sides are nowhere near contentious. Welker's animosity with the Pats started before the negotiations last year.

I was thinking in terms of the Pats having Plan B ready to execute at 4:01.

NFL Network just said they were interested in the Bengals' Andrew Hawkins. Might as well get smaller, eh?

-We're in the bottom half of the league in available cap space.
-Year in and year out the team manages to the cap to allow for flexibility without mortgaging the future.
-This approach has resulted in the most gaudy win/loss % in league history since Brady stepped under center.

So what happens when a guy with 1 solid season walks? Shrill cries of "WE NEVER PAY OUR PLAYERS"

This fanbase is full of idiots who don't know how good of a thing we've got and why we have it.

The great regular season winning % is due to having the best coach and QB of all time, not the way the team handles free agency/drafting. If they were better in free agency then they would have 4 or 5 Super Bowls by now.

Not to pick on you, but Vinatieri is a perfect example. As I recall, he declined to even field an offer from the Patriots because he wanted to extend his career in a dome. But the communal memory is "the Pats were too cheap to keep him."

The way I remember it is:
(A) AV said what he wanted
(B) Pats originally said "No thanks"
(C) Pats relented at last minute, but by that point AV had moved on, declined to give Pats chance to match Colts offer

Of course, Vinatieri's career has pretty much gone as expected; he no longer has the leg for kickoffs, so IND needs a punter who can also do kickoffs.

We will miss his return game the most if he leaves...big shoes to fill has he is usually the best at that

Replacement? There's no need for that, we already have Amendola, Boyce and probably Collie who can fill in for Edelman.

I wand BB to be agressive on bringing outside receivers.

Good luck for Edelman and if he come back I'll be happy for sure.

AV has one more SB ring than BB and Brady not really a bad move on his part.

Last year at this time you were screaming doom and gloom if they didn't sign Mike Wallace. You do this every offseason and what we are actually really confident in is that you will continue to do so no matter what they do.

Cmon, the guy who says Larry Fitzgerald sucks is now whining about Edelman's potential departure. If that isn't comedy gold around here I don't know what is.

on a" Every clouds has a silver lining" note. Can you imagine what Brady6's next thread title is going to be?

I will take "Things That Begin With an A for 500 Alex.

Amen brother. Not to mention a weak AFC east and AFC as a conference overall.

Collie? :bricks:

Last year we panicked and threw $ at a slot WR made of glass. There is no need to panic with another "backup plan."

We have a starting slot WR in Amendola. We have a backup slot WR in Boyce. I hope BB learned that just because you lose your slot WR does not mean you have to throw 5-6 million at another one.

Throw 5-6 million at an outside WR please

Really though. No need to panic and go sign Sanders or Hawkins.

I'm hoping this isn't true, still an hour left

Good call, they should have gotten rid of those two clowns and signed Vinatieri.

And you are right, Larry Fitzgerald does suck. You the man.

Free agency wasn't responsible for Tyree catch and Welker drop.

Yes becasue FA screwed them out of the 2 SBs vs the Giants. That's it :bricks:

Maybe a receiver, like Deion Branch, in 2006 instead of a bunch of scrubs and we beat Indy.

It's just funny that people think the reason we win a lot in the regular season is because of our shrewdness in free agency and NOT the best QB and coach of all time. Our stupidness in free agency has held us back.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you were never a Patriots fan before 2001.

Sucks for Brady......no MiniMe to copy his hairstyle

I don't blame Edelman for testing the market. I just hope the Pats have a solid backup plan. Currently they have Gronk coming off an ACL tear, Dobson with foot surgery, Amendola and his injury history, and 2 other WRs who just finished their rookie seasons. I think they should go after someone who can stretch the field vertically, something they have lacked for a few seasons now.

Maybe if they didn't have so many blunders in the draft and free agency, it wouldn't have come down to Welker dropping the ball. There was another 55 minutes before that play where they should have built a bigger lead against a mediocre 9-7 team.
