Why wouldn't Crennel get another coaching position? If Norv Turner (who has milked the Jimmy Johnson tree rep for all it is worth) and Wade Phillips can get another Head Coaching job, why can't Crennel? There is a perception out there that it isn't Crennel's fault that the Browns haven't turned it around and that Crennel is doing a good job with what he has to work with. It is just the Browns organization is rotten at the top.
As for the college ranks, I'm sure Weis has told him how great it is. He can have total control (something he doesn't have now), the money is almost as good as the pro level (sometimes it is even better), and there isn't the demands of life in the NFL (there is actually an offseason to relax).
As for the power struggle, I guess I agree because to come back Crennel will have to agree to report to Pees and be a position coach. I don't see Crennel taking that step back because teams will give him a defensive coordinator job, which unless Pees accepts a position elsewhere or the defense falls apart next season, is not going to be available here.
I'm sorry, but I don't see a place for Crennel unless he is willing to be D-line coach or something like that. At his age and his resume, I doubt he will want to take such a step back. There is a better chance he ends up the defensive coordinator or Assistant Head Coach of the Jets at this point.
I would love to have Crennel back if we didn't have Pees, but the team has moved on. Pees has done a great job allowing the fewest points in Patriots history in his first season as the DC. I can't see the Pats uprooting a good thing just to give Crennel his job back. Based on Pees' first season, he might be the better Defensive Coordinator anyway.
