I agree with your positions of need. It's going to get very interesting if at 29 we come to pick and if Swanson, Pryor(crossing fingers), Ford, Ealy(wishful thinking), Donald, Hageman and Amaro are still available. It's such a deep draft that usually I don't like trading back but in this instance it might be worth it.
Oh, if that scenario ever happens I'm going Ealy and then Pryor. I know people will think I'm crazy for passing up Amaro but I want a bad defense!!!!
I don't think you'd be crazy at all. Manx might, though.
No I'd just debate her. I certainly wouldn't think her crazy. Although Kony Ealy
Only kidding.
Edit: I would point out though that although I'm saying that we should go TE first, I've also said that I'm open to other players like Donald, Hageman, Tuitt etc. Unlike some, I'm not the one saying we should automatically remove one half of the team from first round consideration.
I have a strong philosophical bias against taking WRs and RBs in the 1st round, which removes a lot of players from consideration. QB, TE, and OL are all equally important with any defensive position IMO. I don't see a slam dunk interior OL this year - maybe Zach Martin or Xavier Su'a-Filo, but not at the moment for me - and I probably wouldn't go QB right now (though next year I probably would target a QB in the 1st round), so that again limits the options.
I have gone on record that I consider Greg Robinson the top prospect in the draft, so I'm certainly not anti-offense. Ironically, I'm "pro defense" and I would take Robinson over Jadeveon Clowney any day; you're "pro offense", and I suspect you would do the opposite.
I have to agree with you on not taking WR's or RB's in round one.
However, I do think OT Mathews of Texas A&M is the best player in this draft.
The best interior lineman in this draft is Yankey of Stanford. I would take him at #29 if I could not trade back.
After pick 24 or 25, this draft gets really dicey with all the blue and red chip players gone. So I do think trading back is the best option for BB. (Unless one of the red chippers falls to #29)

I don't like Amaro in the first even if he's the only one of the group still there. I just don't think he's a first round value and I question if he'll be a difference maker at the next level. I'm in the vast minority and Manx certainly does think I'm crazy.
EDIT: I think Seferian-Jenkins is going to come off the board before Amaro the more I look at them and I'm about 99% sure ASJ is going to go in the first round. If all the defenders are gone I wouldn't have an issue with him at 29 but would with Amaro.
Although I like ASJ and Ebron etc quite a bit. I'd prefer to see the team not spend a first round pick on a tight end. There is plenty of value to go with one on day day 3.
I'm tired of this pathetic 3rd down defense. Yeah they got players coming back from injury and the team is definitely improving but they need another DT and DE/OLB who can collapse the pocket or rush from the edge. It's probably the most glaring need and will make this d elite once it's addressed properly.
With so much talent in the first and second I'd hope for Van Noy, Hageman,Murphy, Truitt, Donald, Ford or Jernigan before I'd take a Tight End.

What do you suggest we draft in the 1st round?
Please don't mention a Rutgers 5-10, 180 lb defensive back.
I have seen enough of Bill's DB selections to root for anything but a
DB in the 1st or 2nd round.
Unless Rodney or Ty Law have a son in the draft.
ASJ is my favorite TE in the draft and would compliment Gronk extremely well. As I said before, I wouldn't mind Niklas either.
You didn't address the question to me, but guys I think are worth taking at 29:
- TE Eric Ebron
- DT Timmy Jernigan
- DT Ra'Shede Hageman
- DE Trent Murphy
- S Calvin Pryor
Borderline: TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, OG Zach Martin, OG Xavier Su'a-Filo, DT Louis Nix, DT Aaron Donald, DE Kony Ealy
Welcome to the Board Ashley!
It's good to have more gals around our nerdy Pats-centric walls, especially those that like to step right in and talk draft. Good to have you!
I'm also in agreement about tight end, there is a lot of depth at the position and I'm in favor of grabbing one of those in the middle rounds. Arthur Lynch is a guy I'd add to the list, I'm a big fan of his. Now if Eric Ebron slipped...that may get me to change my tune, but I doubt he will.
As much as Hooman has been serviceable, I wouldn't even be opposed to doubling up, grabbing another in the 7th---maybe Lyerla if his (mental) health checks out?
I don't like Amaro in the first even if he's the only one of the group still there. I just don't think he's a first round value and I question if he'll be a difference maker at the next level. I'm in the vast minority and Manx certainly does think I'm crazy.

I've also gone on record that I don't think Amaro is a 1st round value, and I agree with everything you said. Manx obviously disagrees.
Agreed. This hormone driven 27 year old male thinks that she's either going to make some man very happy one day, or she's going to terrify him with the fact that she knows more about football than he does.
I'm not a huge Amaro fan, he's the third TE for me and some way behind Ebron and ASJ. I would however take him before I take a safety or an interior OL (Zach Martin possibly excluded).
Here is the big question: if ASJ is still available(which from what I've been reading he will be), would you take him with our first round pick or would you go defensive line with that first pick?
