Jadeveon Clowney called 'remarkable,' by Houston Texans owner Bob McNair | Audibles - SI.com

It's kind of stupid to tip your hand especially this early and perhaps it's smoke and they really want Bridgewater. With the Rams picking second it puts them in an interesting situation. The Rams don't need a QB but if the Texans try to trade down to Jax then STL could very well pick Clowney.

The thought of Watt and Clowney or Quinn and Clowney is pretty scary.

The other intesting thing is if they're going OLB and with BOB the new HC it does open up the Mallet to the Texan theories.

I liked the idea proposed of swapping picks to get the deal done.

Texans 33 (580) + 65 (265) = 846
Pats 64 (270) + 96 (116) = 386

846 - 386 = 460 or the equivalant to the #44 pick but Houston doesn't lose a draft pick.

I could more than live with that.

I do like the idea of picking at the top of the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

The Rams also have Michael Brockers and Chris Long. They don't need another defensive lineman. Although they have Jake Long, I imagine they would take Jake Matthews.

Jeff Fisher has NEVER taken a 1st round offensive lineman. He also loves really high upside players. Clowney is the type of guy you can play outside, inside or standing up. Fisher should have no problem adding him to that defense.

True but having a D-Line with that talent and depth might be hard to turn down. If Houston did trade down to Jax the Rams could always fleece the Browns, Raiders or Falcons who might want Clowney and then still get Matthews. Then the Texans get neither the franchise QB or OLB\DE.

I think the Rams will trade back and take either an OT or Anthony Barr, and I think that Greg Robinson will end up going higher than Matthews.

Barr's a good call. I'd probably mock Watkins and maybe Evans personally but I have a sneaky feeling for Manziel.

Bradford's contract has 2 years and 34M in cap hits. The Rams had been talking extension before the injury. I don't think he'll ever be the franchise guy they hoped but I don't think they're ready to move on either.

With all these Juniors declaring this is the best year to have multiple picks or picking at the Top of each round...I envy Houston. Thet are a QB away from being a Factor in the AFC...I see them taking a QB early on they could find a Clowney clone at the Top of the Second or Third. I think Houston is blowing smoke on Clowney. I think they are trying to figure out which QB best suits them. There is not much that separates the Top guys its just a matter of choice.

On Mallett honestly I don't think he has shown anything to be moved. "IF" O'Brien give us that Houston pick at the Top of the 3rd for him I would take it and run.

I would tend to agree on their blowing smoke but there's no end game. STL isn't going to trade up to get Clowney and if they trade down they're likely to miss out on Bridgewater and Clowney. Maybe they aren't really high on either are are looking to stockpile picks . If they had the #2 pick it would make a lot more sense hoping somebody would take Clowney at #1 so they could take Bridgewater #2. I don't love any of the other QB prospects as top ten picks including Johnny Football.

Thank Goodness thats not a NEED for us at the moment. But remember Alex Smith went #1 overall many moons ago so anything can happen.

FWIW, McNair is a South Carolina alum. The Texans also took Mario Williams 1st overall in 2006 in a (smart) surprise move, passing up Reggie Bush.

IF the Texans do take Clowney 1st, they need a long term QB plan. It's not Matt Schaub, and I don't think it's Case Keenum. The top 4 QBs will likely be off the board in the top 15 picks, and there's no one a clear consensus pick in the next 45 picks. Maybe Brent Smith. Zach Mettenberger and Aaron Murray have flaws, and are coming off of ACL injuries.

I'm not predicting anything, just saying there would have to be a plan.

Or it could all be a smokescreen.

I'm not sure any of these kids are francise qb's. Because of that, I'd take Clowney 1st. Then try to trade up for a qb whom you like. Not unlike what Baltimore did for Flacco. That worked out OK for the Raisins.

Houston would be wise to take Clowney and thats probably what they'll do.
As for Mallet, i have no idea what they want to do but IMO at this point he is a better option than anyone they could pick in the 2nd or 3rd round. And that goes for any team looking for a QB after the 1st round.

Then again, why get a guy with a year on his contract and only a couple of complete passes when you can pick a kid to mold with a 4 year contract?
