With the other first rounder id take Griffin/Nelson but if Willis is somehow available, id take him in .02 seconds.

I'll be surprised if they pick at 24 and 28. I think they'll move up and down. IMO, they need to move into a position to get Reggie Nelson. He's one of the few true difference makers available in this draft...

I think Nelson would be a great addition, don't get me wrong. I am really concerned about his size. I have seen everything from 5'10" to 6'1". When there is such a discrepancy that usually means he is on the small size. Is he too small for us at SS?

Is Gay coming back? I know they tendered him pretty high (2nd round?), and if Wilson moves back. Of course it would be nice to get 16 games out of them.

Personally, I'm plenty worried about our corners. Contemplate this: who is signed past 2007? Not Samuel, not Wilson, not Gay, not Scott...aha, Ellis Hobbs! Yep, ONE corner signed for 2008. And this year's draft is all about 2008.

You're right, Warren is a UFA in 2009...

Weddle is an intriguing prospect. He's a Patriot kind of player. Smart, versitile, and productive. However, I don't think he makes it out of the second round...

BTW, McKnight is someone they should definitely be looking at on day 2. He'd be a terrific value pick in the 4th round. Remember, Caldwell and Gafney are only under contract through next season. This WR pool is too deep to not grab someone on day 2 to develop...

Have you not watched this team draft over the last 5 or 6 years? They will draft the player that they deem to be the best value, no matter what side of the ball or what position.

Well, I watched them draft a kicker in the 4th round because they had a hole at that position. I watched them draft a guard in the 1st round because they had a hole at that position. Just last year I watched them draft replacements for Dillon and Graham, who were destined to be gone this year.

Value is not the same as the mythical "best player available." A big part of value is how much the player improves your team, now and 1-2 years down the line.

It's always interesting to project what the Pats will do in the draft, as they have a history of going against what the fans and media are thinking. One only need to look at their recent history of drafting TEs. However, given what's transpired this far, the TE drafting decisions make sense.

That being said, defensive secondary has got to be a priority. If there is a player who is a strong candidate for LB, whether he's a DE or LB, getting younger and deeper at that position is a priority as well. My guess is considering Asante's situation, it's even more reason for the team to choose an impact CB. Having a good rookie CB on board gives them much more flexibility in negotiations with Asante.

The strong statement made during the FA period means that the team now has great flexibility in the draft and can get creative with best player available rather than be constrained to choose for a specific need throughout the draft. I believe this is where BB/SP are at their best. This draft will be fun to watch.

Well.... I agree with a lot of posts in this string... mostly re: Willis and Landry, I could see the Pats moving up to take either one of those fellows... but I don't think that they'll sit pat.

Instead, I think that the SP and BB could do some real damage in the second and third rounds... if a stud DL, S, or Willis doesn't fall to them at 24/28, I think that they will either trade down in the draft for more picks in rounds 2/3/4 or trade out of this draft into next year's draft (sticking in round one if they do that).

I think that the Pats have yet again put themselves in a position to make the best move avail. to them..... IMHO, that would be Landry or Willis (also love Griffen late in the first), but I trust BB and SP and LOVE what they do in the upper middle part of the draft... I think that they will be wheeling and dealing in about 6 weeks! Thoughts?

IMO they will draft to the strengths of the Draft and the future Drafts coming up. They will look at the "learning time" of the positions, and the future turnovers of our existing vets. I'm not a draftnick like some of our members, but I'd heard that this draft in particular was not strong in the LB or WR corps for example. (maybe why we've gone after these positions aggressively this year in FA) I'd even heard that overall, it's not a very strong draft class period. So I won't be surprised with any moves they make this year, as I think they've set themselves up very nicely with these FA moves to be flexible to this draft. That being said, I'd love to see someone that Rodney and Tedy can mentor!!!!

At the combine he measured in at 5"11 198.
Which is too small to play SS imho.
The abuse on his body from banging into 230lb RBs would be too much.
I think his position in the NFL is FS.

If Levi Brown makes it by the Giants, He could fall to 24. The Jets and Balt both need Tackles. I believe Arizona, Houston, Bears, Oakland, Detroit and the Browns would then all be in play for him.

Write it down... If Adam Carriker DL Nebraska is still there at 24. the Pats will take him. Remember Ty Warren will be a FA next year, and BB loves his DL. LAst year it was rumorred that if the Ravens DL Haloti Ngata was still on the board at 21 BB would have drafted him.

Heh, it was also "rumored" that if Reggie Bush was available at 21, BB would have taken him too.

1. 1st round #24
2. 1st round #28
3. 3rd round #92
4. 4th round #124 or so
5. 4th round #130 or so - comp
6. 5th round #165 or so - comp
7. 6th round #175 or so
8. 6th round #200 or so
9. 6th round #210 or so - comp

Having just loaded up in FA, expect us to trade for a 2008 pick or two - eg, our #28 for a 2007 2nd plus a 2008 2nd or high 3rd. Definitely in the 6th round, we'll be trading at least one of those picks.
