Current Option: Ryan Mallett (26 in June)
Bold is my favorite option
2014 Draft Options (Aaron Rodgers Plan):
Aaron Murray, UGA
A.J. McCarron, Bama
Zach Mettenberger, LSU
Tahj Boyd, Clemson
Tom Savage, Pittsburgh
Connor Shaw, SC

2015 Draft Options (Aaron Rodgers Plan):
Bryce Petty, Baylor
Jeff Driskel, UF
Braxton Miller, Ohio State
Bo Wallace, Ole Miss
Rakeem Cato, Marshall

2016 Draft Options (Last shot to let Brady mentor):
Christian Hackenberg, PSU
Davis Webb, Texas Tech (I would say Hackenberg but he's a top 10 prospect, way too early to analyze obviously)
Maty Mauk, Mizz
Tommy Armstrong Jr., Nebraska

I'd throw in Jimmy Garoppolo and Brett Smith if they're available in the mid-rounds.

I'd so more than throw them in, I'd put them just behind Mettenberger. And I wouldn't ignore the Ohio State backup who's name has just escaped me (middle aged senility).

I just watched some footage of Metterberger and he reminds me of Mallett, which is not good. His mechanics, especially from the waist down, are just dreadful. At this point I'd rather take my chances with someone who's very accurate and makes good decisions and has just an ok arm.

Except we drafted Mallet which makes Mettenberger a logical replacement.

Eh, let's upgrade instead

I don't understand why BB grabbed Mallett, who's kinda like Bledsoe in many regards, and unlike TFB. Maybe BB thought he could groom Mallett, or just stash and later trade him, or maybe he thought he'd be good enough for a few years to serve as a backup, I'd love to know the thought process that went into picking him.

Perhaps the amount of progress, or lack of, that's been achieved with Mallett might weigh into whether they go for Mettenberger or someone with less mechanical work needed.

Kenny Guiton, my good man.

I can't say what BB saw specifically, but I remember hearing that they had him rated as the top quarterback in the 2011 draft. In any case, if they truly had concerns about Mallett, they had plenty of chances to address that over the last twelve months.

Thanks. Despite my forgetfulness, I do like him (at least as a 3rd option developmental guy). It's his reported intelligence that intrigues me the most.

I'm really thinking Brady is going to be around more than four more years. Anybody we draft this year, will have his rookie contract expire leave as a free agent before Brady reluctantly hands over the QB position.

The best QB in college football this past season was the UCLA QB. He's not Luck, but maybe Luck lite and would be a tremendous QB for us post Brady.

PS: In a few days McDaniels will be named Browns head coach and then maybe he trades for Mallet. If that happens, then I am staying in the SEC for a replacement for Mallet. And I am drafting a QB whose last name also starts with an "M". I would go with either McCarron of Alabama, Mettzenburger of LSU, or Murray of Georgia.

PSS: If BB wants a better throwing QB to be a wildcat QB than what he tried with Tebow, then we can grab Conner Shaw of SC in the seventh.

Give me Logan Thomas for this role. Would make for a dominant FB type or even TE if he can't make it as a QB.

If they draft a QB in the first 3 rounds I will blow my brains out.. figuratively...

Rationale:
  1. Backup QBs are a dime a dozen
  2. There are other areas of need
  3. Veteran JAGs are just as good or better than any rookie
  4. The number of teams that have successfully managed a QB transition is very small (Passing torch from an elite QB to another QB) - Green Bay with Rodgers and maybe the 49ers are the only ones I can think of

No way, just sign Shaw or Taylor Martinez post-draft if BB wants to take that route

Neither come close in terms of size/athleticism. Thomas is 6'6" and 260lb. Both Shaw and Martinez both barely make it over 6'. There is no comparison between Thomas and the others. Thomas is a similar size and athleticism to Gronk.

I think you are confusing your wishes with reality, If Brady is around four years he will spend them several of them plattooning and teaching a follow on QB

Idk, I wouldn't count Brady out from playing at an elite level for 4 more years.

Just another challenge for BB, You forget that he has done that thrice, already. He replaced Kosar with Testaverde; Bledsoe with Brady; and Brady with Cassell; and continued to win, in every case.

Cassell was not as talented and returning Brady was still in his Prime. Kosar and Bledsoe were not, so the replacements stuck.

If Cassell could win 11 games, after 4 years of seasoning on the Bench, I don't doubt that more talented Mallett could be coached to do the same.

Some people are more coachable than others, I've known some martial arts students make incredible progress in short time and others who are not any better after 10yrs of training, and that's with the exact same teacher.

It comes down to whether or not the student/player is willing to let go of what they think they know and embrace what their coach/teacher is telling them.
