I am not comparing them in terms of play; I am comparing them in terms of expectations vs. productivity. Amendola has met the expectation set for him the how and why behind that is moot just like Dowling and Bequette have not or did not meet the expectations set for them the how and why behind that also is moot.

Amendola has contributed to the winning of this team but he has not met the expectations of a 5 year $30 million contract, he was brought in with the intent to replace the production of Wes Welker yet he has not even replaced the production of Brandon Lloyd a player we could have retained for $2 million less than we’re paying for Amendola. Amendola over 16 games at his current play would have 73 receptions for 818 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns, Lloyd had 74 receptions for 911 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns last season and we did not think that production was worth $3 million a season but we will accept less receptions, receiving yards, yards per reception and touchdowns from Danny Amendola for $2 million more a season? Oh wait his production is down because of injuries right? But the projections I put out for Amendola would actually represent his most productive NFL season if he met them but I should expect more because he went to the same college as Welker, plays the same position as Welker and is white like Welker so heck he must be Welker.

The only comical is that 11 games into the season everyone is still using the same exact excuses and hanging the same carrot they were hanging in week 6 of the season let me ask you this is Amendola guaranteed to be here next season? Is any NFL player guaranteed to be on their team the next season? No; so if Amendola never steps on the field again after 2013 would you judge his performance as a bust this season, because what you’re telling me to be patient for or waiting for before passing your judgment is not guaranteed to happen, I am sure many said the same thing about Lloyd in 2012 or Chad Johnson in 2011 but did they get a second season on the team, nope and they were all under contract as well.

Your both holding out hope for something that may or may not happen and taking issue with my position of what has happen, that is your right but it is risky in my opinion and I recommend you making you assessments on what has already happen and not what you hope could happen, things seldom go as you hope I think we all know that to well.

As of two or three weeks ago, he was 27. I think we're skewing things a bit by claiming that he's "close to 30 years old." I think we have another couple of seasons before we get to that point, and that would take us through 2014 and 2015.

If we need to worry about him being on the wrong side of 30 in 2016 then we can come to that bridge and deal with it then. Technically, he'd be 30 late in the 2015 season, but one would think that he'd be able to muddle through the stretch run around Thanksgiving through the final 6-7 games or so

SF we both know being back is never guaranteed especially on this team so my assessment of a player is based on what he has done not what he could do. If I had waited till Lloyd or Chad Johnson’s second season to make an assessment on their play I would have been SOL because they had no second season, same thing with Daniel Fells and many others over the years. Injuries are part of the game and although you cannot fault the players for getting injured you still have to include them into the assessment when determining their value and level of player status.

Of course, because a team only needs one wide receiver and the passing game was clicking on all cylinders back in October with a healthy Edelman and no Amendola.

Edelman and Amendola are not the same player. I know they have the same skin color, but that doesn't make them the same any more than it makes Victor Cruz and Antonio Brown the same. Amendola is a prototypical slot receiver, while Edelman is capable of playing both in the slot and and outside. He's 3 inches taller than Amendola. They're not mutually exclusive players.

You’re so off base with saying this it is ridiculous! There is a thread that I opened highlighting how great Chandler Jones has been, another thread that I opened highlighting how well Harmon and Ryan have played this season, I spoke glowingly of Edelman, Jamie Collins and Fletcher in the threads opened to discuss them. You sound idiotic implying that I go around exaggerating the failures of players, I am just not blind to them or going to pretend to be blind to the failures just because I want to prove that I am the ultimate cheerleader. I give credit where credit is due and give criticism where criticism is due.

I am sick of hearing the injury excuse like we didn’t know him being injured was a possibility or that other players in the NFL do not perform at an extremely high level while dealing with injuries, Calvin Johnson had one the greatest season as a receiver ever last year on a bad knee that caused him to barely be able to practice, Talib shut down Thomas on Sunday on a bad hip, Rob Gronkowski has been dominate and he is clearly still not even close to 100%, I could go on for days talking about NFL players who play at a high level despite injuries but Danny is different Danny deserves to be excused from performing because he is injured, tell me something how is it that other players can play so well with injuries but Amendola cannot? Has it ever occurred to you that if a groin injury makes Amendola such a subpar player he probably isn’t that exceptional when he is healthy? Let’s say he is 75% the player he is when healthy, increase his output by 25% and let me tell you he is still missing the bar by a lot.

Don’t come in here insulting me when you’re the one reaching for anything and everything and I am laying statistical and historical data out over and over again and all you can muster up is some ridiculous and false assertion that I am a hyperbole. If Amendola stayed 100% healthy, Edelman would be the same mostly punt returner many of these same posters wanted to cut this summer.

Cutting good players is stupid. It costs money and leaves you grasping for marginal replacements when injuries etc happen.

The Patriots don't cut players because they're dealing with injuries or a slump. These players are already paid for, it's stupid.

Cutting Brace and Meriweather didn't improve those positions. They were cut because they weren't improving and those positions suffered for years,

Amendola is a prototypical slot receiver, while Edelman is capable of playing both in the slot and and outside. He's 3 inches taller than Amendola. They're not mutually exclusive players.

Jules and Danny are about the same height. I don't know where that 3 inches comes from now, but it's not true.

Also, both of them are capable of playing inside and outside. It's one of their best assets, especially over someone like Welker who struggles on the perimeter over his career.

Seriously, though. You can't have a much better passing game than they had in the second half under those conditions. I'm glad they bit the bullet and stuck with the rookies. Nice complement of receivers that fit with what Brady does best and they might get something out of Boyce and the new small TE too. All learning the system without the primadonna problems of some vets.

Nobody is trashing Amendola what has been said is that he is not performing at a level expected of a player being paid as a top 30 wide receiver in the NFL. He does not suck he is a perfectly fine possession slot receiver who will have the occasional great game. His failure is due in large part to fans and media members who have these lofty expectations that all of a sudden a player who has never had more than 689 receiving yards in a season is going to come in here and be Welker 2.0.

To some degree we were fortunate to catch lighting in a bottle with Welker. What your expectation of Amendola is would be similar to my suggesting we draft the current Michigan QB in the sixth round and then posting and telling everyone to be patient because when he gets healthy he will be as good as Brady maybe even better.

Que the dramatics - he hasn't lived up to his first year salary, and he isn't guaranteed to be here next year we learned that with Lloyd who signed a three year deal and was gone after one.

He should have earned 68.5% of his $5 million salary this season despite 68.5% of the season being complete and he hasn't and nothing you say or smoke show you present changes that. What are we waiting for him to play like he has never played in his nearly 5 year NFL career? Why is that going to happen all of a sudden in 2014? Stop just throwing around bold and demeaning posts and answer the questions you have nothing that supports your belief that's the real hard truth here buddy and everything you do moving forward is to save face or act out your silly belief that TRUE fans don't say bad things ever they make excuses for players if they underperform.
