Confused about defensive holding...

Basically, the "uncatchable" crap the ref was saying is just not true and people who think otherwise are just Pats haters. It was PI, clear as day.

But they can't do anything about it now and still have DEN coming in on Sunday. An apology from the NFL or anyone else doesn't change anything and won't do anything to improve the officiating.

How does an opposing player catch the ball for a game ending INT if the ball is "unchatchable"?

It can't be holding. Both the illegal contact and defensive holding restrictions end once (among other things) the QB releases the ball.

The only available penalty is defensive pass interference. So it's that or nothing.

Point being, when the hold began, I haven't seen evidence that the ball was in the air. Have you?

By saying the ball was in the air when the hold begins, means that it was a PI call since the grab began close to where the ball ended up. if the ball wasn't in the air when the grab began, then it's holding. Either way, there's a penalty there. Just look at where the ball ends up and where the grab began...

To me, the only thing that is in dispute is whether the ball was thrown or not and whether the ball should have been put on the 1 yard line or the 13 yard line.

What holding? Didn't you hear the ref? The ball was already intercepted when contact was made. The flag was just thrown for fun by the ref closest to the play.

I think that the dbs should just pick up the receivers as soon as the ball is thrown and run them as far away from the ball as possible. According to some, that's not a penalty.

I'm not blaming that on the outcome. I believe that if you play it that tight, that's what happens but I'm confused on what's a penalty and what isn't now.

I'm not arguing the outcome. I'm arguing whether that play should result in a penalty.

The explanation(s) are just such BS. I didn't even really mind them picking up the flag because the Patriots should have played better but to go on trying to explain away their mistake is comical. They're better off admitting they fudged it and move on. But I'm sure some NFL VP will be on NFLN tonight telling America why it was the right call.

Exactly. I've been watching/playing football my entire life and I'm completely confused on the rule now because their explanation means that if the receiver isn't able to catch the ball, no matter what the defense does to prevent it, that there's no penalty. Hell, like I said, just drag the receivers through the end zone.

I don't know if Gronk could have caught that but I do know the ball ended up being intercepted right around where the grab began. That tells me that you can drag a guy away from the ball and that it only matters where he ends up when the ball comes down and not where he was when the ball was put in the air.

I saw on patriots planet a GIF that I'm too lazy and not masochistic enough to post, but it basically shows that Gronk was running his route directly to the spot where the ball was picked before the two Panthers re-routed him.

We got hosed. End of story.

I guess the NFL has officially ..sanctioned Muggery!!!
