157 yards a game without vince

Knew we would miss him more then his stats showed this year.

Any word on what is wrong with Kelly?

Nope. I thought the run defense was abysmal today, hence the D+ grade in my post. It's not just the yardage, it's the number of carries allowed in the first place. 52 carries allowed means you are getting schooled in the run game.

Without Vince the coaching staff has some work to do to shore that up.

I see it differently. The Jets rushed 52 times for 177 yards or only 3.4 ypc. The Patriots were much more efficient running, with 20 runs for 90 yards and 4.5 ypc. These figures tell me the defense played the run very well. The large number of runs indicates that the Jets coaching staff was committed to the run even though they had many inefficient runs. They likely knew their passing offense was also inefficient, with about a 50% completion rate. I wish our coaches recognized that our passing game is also inefficient, and would benefit from more reliance on the run, as would the play action, pass protection, and time of possession. I think their strategy was better. The Patriots were outcoached.

Agreed @ Mark Herron

The Jets forced the Patriots into throwing, not because they ran the ball poorly but because of their defensive alignments. The Patriots should have just kept pounding the rock, especially when they came out of the half with an 11 point lead. Even if the rushing attack wasn't effective in the second half, it would've been better than completely abandoning it. Poor coaching on the Patriots' part.

As for the run D today, they did a decent job, as the stats show. The Jets owned time of possession. That had lots to do with it.

Given the injuries, the D is doing remarkably well. No Vince and Kelly in the middle means the Pats will likely see more of the same in upcoming games. The rookies are doing quite well, but I'm not sure they are big enough.

Kelly can't be out much longer...right? Hope not

You're right, the rushing D was terrible, but could you really expect otherwise?

I mean, you don't just lose Vince Wilfork, Jerod Mayo, and Tommy Kelly without having huge holes in your defense (especially when the replacements of those guys include two rookies).

What the hell do you expect man?!? The defenses heart has been ripped out and for some damn reason you expect them to not struggle? People being surprised by this irritates the crap out me.

This team not just this defense has been absolutely decimated by injuries and **** luck. Your seriously gonna ***** about bad run D?

The question is who is out there and what options does New England have to help fix the run D? I can't imagine we're in a strong position to acquire anyone of note.

Rush D wasn't terrible they allowed 3.4 YPC. Take out Smith's runs and it was 3.1 YPC

You know what the league lead in least YPC allowed was coming into this week? 3.0 by the Jets.

Pats actually were under their average for the season in YPC allowed (4.2) today.

The D definitely took a step back, but they still held the Jets to 20 despite the Pats O taking a whole quarter off. The Pats seemed confident that their O could operate efficiently and didn't worry about game management. Conversely the Jets worried only about management. This skewed the YPC and yardage totals for both teams, and I'd guess both are okay with how they ran. Considering the state of both teams the largest disappointment for either team was the Pats passing game.

Don't think anyone. If Kelly can come back 100% we can manage. But we have no idea when he will be back

Dunno how you can complain about 3.4 ypc. What are they suppose to do hold them to 1 ypc? And this is with the patriots offense forcing them to be on the field all day. Defense played well yesterday. Taking off the pick six and the bogus field goal thats 20 pts. And even after the bs call they still kept the jets from having a chip shot field goal. This d has been nothing short of amazing this season dealing with all these injuries. Hats off to BB and Patricia.

I wish there was an opportunity to bring in a mean sonova b to line up as DT. Nothing made me happier than watching Talib get into Grahams face after he swatted that first ball coming his way. I wish we could have that type of attitude on the line.

The Jets also ran the ball well against us in our first matchup when we did have Wilfork, Kelly and Mayo.

Is it a sprained ligament? did we even find out?

That's my guess. It is a sprained MCL. But that is only a guess. Since he went back into the game after getting injured, I am assuming it wasn't a bad sprain. If that is the case, he should be back this week or next.

Not much concern about the run against the Dolphins since they have no running game. The Steelers seem to have found a running game in the last few weeks though. The Pats will need Kelly back for that game for the run.

We should be fine against MIA and the run. Now the pass they have some decent WRs. Need Talib back this week...Kelly back next
