NFL gets behind "Hard Knocks"

The NFL Can Now Force Teams To Appear On Hard Knocks

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the league can now force teams to appear if there are no volunteers.

Some teams are exempt. The NFL can't force a franchise to go on the show if it

Has made the playoffs two years in a row
Has a new head coach
Has appeared on Hard Knocks within the last 10 years

Re: NFL gets behind "Hard Knocks"

Belichick will be paying teams to volunteer. You know that the Patriots will be high on the NFL's list of teams to select to be part of this. You would have to assume that New England and Denver would be top priorities with the time left of either Brady or Manning.

Gives Belichick a little extra incentive to make the playoffs every year so the Patriots would be exempt from having to do Hard Knocks. Even if they have to do Hard Knocks, Bill would probably be very strict on what they could or could not film.

Report: Proposal to compel NFL teams to appear on Hard Knocks
By: John Morgan

The NFL is considering a proposal which would compel teams to appear on Hard Knocks, if no other club volunteers....

Wanted to fix this on the Hard Knocks rule: it's teams that made the playoff in either (not both) of the previous 2 years that are exempt.

That's a critical difference compared to what was originally reported.

I actually like this and kind of wish it didnt have the playoff restrictions. these shows aren't really inciteful as far as any sort of scheme or anything like that. Sure it might be a slight distraction but not really much more than any league mandated press time alotment.

If these sorts of things were always left to the coaches then would we have the kind of mic'ed up and sideline access we do now? Wich again is controlled and not really inciteful to scheme and the like.

Good, we're off the hook

Ridiculous. Great show, but come on. Are they going to start forcing BB to tweet twice a game? I see it as similarly invasive BS.

for the "patriots" hate around the country .. I bet the ratings would be off the chains if the pats were on it .. record setting

The people complaining about the rule in this thread would probably watch and love every single episode. I would absolutely love to see the Pats in Hard Knocks.

I think Bill would fire himself to prevent the Patriots from being on Hard Knocks.

He'd hate it for sure. But any fan of this team that is saying they wouldn't be all for it is seriously kidding themselves.

Obvious conspiracy to get the Pats to appear on it.

Football is in the entertainment business. People enjoy watching Hard Knocks -- it's a profitable tv show and brings viewers more emotionally attached to players and teams (either in a positive or negative attachment). Emotional attachment is how pro sports makes money.

Bill would like to focus just on football and would totally ignore the public if he could -- but a good chunk of his salary is due to the revenue generated from all the hoopla around the sport.

As a fan, I know that Belichick would hate it, and on that basis I hope they're never compelled to do it.

That said, I would also watch and love every second of it.

Would love to see the assistants on camera and find out what makes Division 4 college coaches so desirable in Foxborough

I've never watched HK but I have no doubt I would subscribe to HBO to watch it up if the BB-Brady Pats were on.

Odd thing with the new rules: It's being presented almost as a punishment for teams that suck.
