Do those numbers remind you of anyone? I for one was completely wrong about the guy. He is a heck of a receiver.
Julian is nowhere near as good as Wes and never will be. But at 1/7 the cost, it is easy to see why the team was OK moving on.

Wes was nowhere as good as Wes before he came to NE either.
Why is he "nowhere as good"? Based on past performance, I agree with you, but what does Wes do that at this point that is so special? He gets open and catches 5 yard passes from the slot. Do you think Edelman would have any trouble doing the exact same thing if he were on the Broncos? The mandate against Denver will always be stopping Thomas and Decker from beating you deep. Any competent slot guy would excel in that offense (Edelman, Davone Bess, Harry Douglass, Victor Cruz, etc etc)
You have to give it to Welker for his durability, but, ignoring the health issue, Edelman is just as reliable in the short game and certainly a bigger threat down the field than Wes is at this point in their careers.

Shhhh. You're not supposed to bring that up.
Julian isn't as good as Wes. And he won't ever be what Welker was from 2007-2011. He just won't. But that is OK, because he is a fine player in his own right.
Looks like he won't be coming back next year
Looks like you caught yourself a little. No one is saying Edelman is currently as good as Welker was in his absolute prime. But, I think if you just trust your eyes and ignore the names on the jerseys, you will see that Edelman's skill set AS OF RIGHT NOW compares favorably with Wes's AS OF RIGHT NOW.
I didn't catch myself because Wes right now is better than Edelman right now. Which, again, is fine.
