Iam a little interested to see how gronk fairs without another TE on the system to take away converage.

Probably as well as he faired when Hernandez missed all but week 1 last year when Gronkowski was healthy.

yuo mean you MISSED Hoomanoomanoomanoonanmanui beastin out there is the 2nd half today?

speaking of great Pats fans...if there's a better one than Tunescribe ,I'd like to meet THAT person...having to put up with me for an entire game has to be a Herculean feat...and you know what's weird?..there's all these kids sititing within a few seats all around me and sonuvabiatch!, by the second half they have me surrounded!...and every time I open my big mouth they all make these googly eyes and start laughing...I think I served as entertainment for the under 12 crew the entire half...

Why do I have no problem believing this picture?

I will take it and I'm happy about it but I still think he is being miss used and is over hyped, Dobson is the cream of the rookie class at receiver and those who are expecting Thompkins to become the next Boldin are going to be disappointed, he was an excellent UDFA signing but not a elite receiver in the making, in my opinion anyway.

My hope for Thompkins is that he fills the Brandon Llloyd role (without the lockerroom social ******ation).

Unless you're seriously trying to pretend that Rob and Tune aren't insane homers

My view of "insane homer" is someone who believes beyond all reason his team can do no wrong. I never have been that way. I've leveled my fair share of criticism at the Patriots over the years on this message board (and elsewhere), and will continue to do so from a perspective of objectivity. You, Deus, present a consistent perspective of negativity and you seem to draw little actual enjoyment from following the Patriots. I think that's where you and I differ most.

I always get a chuckle from the few posters who cannot see the irony of coming onto a website named "PatsFANS.com" and piously proclaim the sin of being "homer".

"Thou shalt not cheer in the pressbox of one's pure and unbiased Solomonic piety".

It's like 1600's Puritans outlawing pleasure.

One can only picture Deus Irae during the penultimate moments of the 2001 season criticizing Lonnie Paxton's snow angels technique.

You serve as entertainment for the over 12 crew here on this board all the time ...

I am just telling you how are coming off.

And BTW, the Pats are still 3-0. So the loss of Welker hasn't really hurt the Pats as much as you seem to hope for unless the Pats get to a tiebreaker situation where points scored or points differential mean anything. And in the long run, it MIGHT make the Pats a better team because Brady may not over rely on one or two receiver. Without a safety blanket for Brady, it is forcing him to throw to these young receivers. And it is might mean this team is stronger in January when it counts.

Stop it, Rob.. Just Stop it.. You're going to make his head explode with that logic....

Trading Welker away isn't hurting this offense. He was a great regular season receiver but when you need him to make a big catch in the playoffs he dropped it. I'll take Amendola any day over him.

Not True. Welker made plenty of big catches in the Play-offs. I notice you don't mention the drops by Hernandez or Branch... Ones that could have also been game changers..

Furthermore, the one that people complain about would have been a circus catch by him.. It was a bad throw by Brady. People just need to accept it and move on..

Thompkins really didn't play that well today, he caught 2 touchdowns which disguises that fact but he wasn't that impressive overall. In Thompkins defense I think it has more to do with how they're attempting to use him, he is not a X receiver he is a Y receiver he would fit better in intermediate routes.

The play calling has been suspect all season in my opinion, as well as the personnel choices on offense.

Clearly you watched a different game than everyone else. Thompkins was getting open on short, intermediate and long routes all day long. And he's being used as an X,Y,and Z receiver depending on where he lines up. Which has been all over the place and NOT just at the X. In fact, he was lined up at the Y and Z more than the X as Dobson was the X almost exclusively.

You disagree? Mr. Sudfeld has been targeted 3 times this season on those targets he has 0 receptions and 2 of the 3 targets have been intercepted. So I'm having a hard time understanding the ugh, no.

How is it Sudfeld's fault that Brady threw to him while he was double covered? You act like Sudfeld didn't fight for the ball. Umm.. I have news for you, Sudfeld did.

It was catchable!!!!!! When you are the #1 wr on a team and considered one of the best, you make the catch. If your truly great you make the catch, pass or tackle that determines the game. There were other drops, but that was the 1 that really had the biggest impact on the Super Bowl. Tom gave the team in each SB and chance to win, but unfortunately a drop and a lucky catch was enough to lose.

With Svitek not yet healthy hopefully this won't keep him out.

On one hand, foot injuries on guys his size suck. On the other hand, I'm just relieved it isn't his back.

Think and Respond

Most seem to think it would be better if our rookies could just sit on the bench twiddling their thumbs and gaining vast amounts of NFL knowledge and experience through osmosis or maybe photosynthesis until next year when they could burst onto the field as fully formed NFL studs. Fast forward to 2014 training camp when they burst onto the field more like a newborn deer who's mom had a bad crack addiction and get benched for some journeyman receiver who has half the talent but way more polish. Fast Forward again to 2015 training camp when their increasing bad attitude gets them a one way waiver wire to Jacksonville and soon thereafter a trip to the unemployment line and maybe an appearance on the Maury show where they will be thrilled to find out they are not the father. Our young receivers have failed because we have not put them in a position to succeed. Chad Jackson had all the skills in the world. He was a damn beast. He sat,and sat,and sat. And then we started hearing he had a bad attitude. Then he was gone. All these young receivers we had so much promise for never seemed to even make the active roster.
Look,I completely understand you want reliability and consistency. It's a good philosophy and has won us more than our fair share. But right now these kids are getting just what they need.

Trial by fire. They are being forged in molten heat and they will come out strong or be cast aside. And that's how it should be.

Circumstance has forced this new philosophy upon us. But I think it will be more providence than curse.

Oh I don't disagree for the most part. Thompkins has walked in and been someone you definitely WANT on the team. He seems reliable and Brady and he are clearly getting on the same page (ala Branch, Givens, Brown, etc.).

Dobson looks to be a very good WR in the making. Absolutely.

My disappointment is Boyce being out of the numbers game (why don't they have him return kicks?). The TD catch in pre-season showed a second burst you just can't teach, and he would have had two long TDs in limited time in four games if Mallet hadn't missed him.

Right now I don't disagree - Brady's got enough on his hands in trying to get acclimated to Dobson and Thompkins; I'm just hoping that Boyce isn't forgotten down the road and gets his chance. He's a burner with good hands.

Some thoughts:

Our pass rush looked active. I don't know what the final tally was on sacks, but I thought they made Freeman rush his throws.

When Freeman did have time, our secondary did it's job. Fantastic game from them. Might be the best game played by our secondary the past 4 years.

Dennard stepped up big time when they tried to pick on him in the second half.

Talib is a stud.

Bolden, aside from when he gave up on that long pass, made his opportunities count. Good game by him.

Blount looks great when there's a hole for his big frame to run through. When there's no hole, he looks awful trying to cut back.

On the opposite end of Blount, Ridley had some nice runs even when the hole wasn't there.

Dobson looked good. Brady trusted him on those key 3rd and 4th downs. Good sign.

Edelman's contribution to this team is underrated. Bucs D keyed on him a lot and opened up the other receivers.

Brady was inconsistent if were comparing him to his usual standard. Made good throws and reads, but also short-armed some throws and missed a few open guys. He moved around the pocket well and was calm even when he got hit. Good sign.

The use of play-action between the 20s was brilliant.

I did notice when we were inside the redzone we went into shotgun almost exclusively and eschewed the run. I understood why against the Jets because the Jets put everybody in the box, but the Bucs weren't doing the same thing on defense and they were susceptible to the run. Some runs and play-action in the red zone would make Tom's job a lot easier.

Great win overall. I love how the team is building and improving each week.

No Gronk. No Amendola. 3-0. No complaints.

It's DI..Mr. Know it all. He is always right so don't even bother trying to have a conversation. A waste of time

yeah, they pretty much have

I dunno. I guess you can argue that we don't know the details about what Dobson was supposed to do on that end zone play, but to my eyes it looked like Tom simply underthrew it. Hard to catch a ball that hits the ground five feet from the end of your arms.

There was also a play early on where two players (a TE and a WR, I think) were behind the secondary. Wide open. Tom threw to a covered TE on the sideline instead. I'm sincerely open to hearing why you think that one was on the receivers, but you can understand why someone might consider that a miss by the QB can't you?

:ditto::agree: I don't remember WW dropping to many passes either. And i get sick of hearing about that non catch in the SB, that wasn't a gimmie at all. While i wouldn't call it a circus catch it was close. I blame TB more than welker, the pass was high, and he was falling backwards it hit his finger tips. And i believe even if he managed to catch it mid air he wouldn't have been able to hold on when he hit the ground.

About quarterbacks missing the "wide open man".

Instead of watching the game from high up from a bird's eye (camera angle) view -look for the wide open man while standing down on the field.

Now try looking for the wide open man while wearing an NFL helmet.

Now try looking for the wide open man while inside your tight circle of gigantic OL.

Now try looking for the wide open man from behind the line of charging gigantic DL-men waving their tennis-racket arms and jumping up and down trying to tip any ball you attempt to throw.

Now try looking for the wide open man while dodging these huge guys trying to do you actual bodily harm.

Found an open receiver? Good. But wait, maybe he's not as open as you would think because if you throw it now either the OL in your face or the LB in the middle is going to be able to tip it easy.

I think Dante would be pretty upset about that.
