Peter King appears, yet again, to be full of crap. Belichick wasn't doing anything different in the 2nd pre-season game. King's babble about "robber" sets and jumping routes is a load, when you consider the pass defenders who did not play - McCourty and Dennard. Belichick isn't going to show anything using a bunch of rookies and cast-offs.

The pass rush was successful not because of any exotic scheming or sets. It succeeded because the Patriots were faster to the point of attack, tossed their blockers aside, and/or Josh Freeman can't read pressure.

The pick six by Logan Ryan against the backup QB was a lame pass on a basic out pattern that Ryan was in the right place to exploit.

Actually the article was by Greg Bedard, not Peter King.

For reasons that we can only speculate on, the headline to all URLs from that site automatically finish with "| The MMQB with Peter King" rather than including the actual writer's name.

Cannon, Dowling remain limited - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

Offensive lineman Marcus Cannon, cornerback Ras-I Dowling and defensive end Justin Francis were among those Patriots limited at practice on Tuesday, as they worked with a member of the team's strength and conditioning staff on a side field during the early portion of the session.

Tight end Daniel Fells and wide receivers Kamar Aiken and Mark Harrison (non-football injury list) were also spotted on the separate field, an indication that they might not be available for Thursday's third preseason game in Detroit.

Five players were not spotted at practice, including wide receiver Danny Amendola, tight end Rob Gronkowski (physically unable to perform list), defensive linemen Jermaine Cunningham and Armond Armstead and rookie cornerback Brandon Jones.

Well Danny catches alot of short passes and he has above average size for a WR. I hate to say it but they will be plenty more where that "hit in the back of the head" came from. He needs to start watching tapes of the 2012 Brandon Lloyd If he wants to remain healthy.

Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola was absent from practice for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.

A source indicated to ESPNBoston.com that the absence isn't cause for major concern. More specifically, Amendola is dealing with a minor injury issue that is not head-related. The nature of the injury beyond that is unknown.

Stats are so deceptive in 2010 Cunningham was credited with only one sack but I remember him having alot of QB hurries. I remember one specfically on Peyton Manning of the Colts saved us the game.

One good play doesn't make someone a wonder. Cunningham won't survive the final cuts this year. If he does, it will be out of pure need (like last year) and Pats fans should expect a non-existant interior pass rush once again.

You could use the in season IR spot on him. I'd prefer they didn't last season I thought the use of it in preseason on Shiancoe came back to bite us in the ass with Gronkowski and the Hernandez injuries.

Yeah, I agree. I'd rather not use it on a scrub/borderline player and wait to see if we really need it.

Belichick used it relatively early last year, waiting only a day or two after the rule was implemented. He didn't use it in the preseason, but he did use it in the first week of September.

It states that the player can begin practicing within 3 weeks, but must wait 8 weeks to play in a game. In Schiancoe's case last year, he was expected to return in week 10 after the week 9 bye.

Jermaine actually had more pressure stats (hurries, hits, sacks) than Dunlap in 2010, despite playing fewer snaps and coming off the field on most obvious passing downs.

He didn't live up to expectations, but he had a solid rookie year.

To this point, he’s projected to more of a No. 4 or 5 receiving role.

This was reflected in the the preseason opener against the Eagles when Edelman didn’t play an offensive snap when quarterback Tom Brady was on the field. Last Friday against the Buccaneers, he was on for four of Brady’s 25 snaps (including penalties).

Those numbers fall short compared to the snaps that Amendola (32) and rookie receivers Kenbrell Thomkins (29), Josh Boyce (15) and Aaron Dobson (10) have played with Brady in two preseason games.
