Emory College: Patriots have the second most loyal fanbase

While Cowboys bein first isn't shockin (everyone's a Cowboy fan. Even people way outside the United States love them. Not sure why.), I have a hard time believing Jets has the third most loyal fan base. I'm not even jokin. I thought Giants and Steelers would've been above them. Raiders being last seems kinda weird, too... Eagles seems low, too, but whatever.

This is a nice achievement, considering how much this team has been rebuilt and "rebranded" since the Kraft family took over... there were times that it was not much fun being a Pats Fan.

yeah...I was there for it too....

I preface this by saying some of the most bogus information out there begins with the words "A recent study says _______". So a grain of salt is needed.

Not surprised by the Raiders being near last. They moved away from their original fan base, they then moved away from their new fan base, a not insignificant portion of their fan base had grown real tired of Big Al's handling of the team, they haven't had much success in quite a few years, they tried to push some of the most outrageous PSL terms (fail!), their fans get treated to what is likely the crappiest stadium in all of football (possibly all of Pro sports), they have been second fiddle in their own geographic area for most of the years they have been back in Oakland. Just isn't a lot of positives for the Raiders fan base other than their far removed past glory.....

While I take it all in with a grain of salt, I have to give props to my Patrs for winding up 2nd on this list. Things I found interesting:

1. The study believes the Cowboys are first because of its many years of success, a football mad culture, and a state of the art stadium. That makes the Pats achievement even more remarkable because they did it WITHOUT having a "football mad culture" in the area, and "just" a nice stadium.

2. With a legacy of just 3 LOSING appearances in AFCCG's to show for over the last 44 years its surprising that there are any Jet fans at all, let along coming in 3rd on this list. We have to give the green bean fans credit for supporting a franchise whose success record is as dismal as theirs.

3. Really surprising to see the Niner's at #26. Surprising and somewhat satisfying. Niner fans always struck me as smug, with a selective memory that has conveniently forgotten over a decade of abject failure in the wake of last year's success.

Congratulation to Bob Kraft and family who have turned what was universally considered a $170MM folly, into a $1.8 billion dollar success

Seems to me high corporate ownership of season tickets is now considered fan loyalty. (Jets/Giants/NE)
And after a second glance at the list, its funny how success and fan loyalty seem to match up.
How and the hell are the Chargers in the top 11.....ahead of Denver??

LOL. Ever since the first time I read up on this, I still have no idea what Sullivan was doing out there grabbing Long's facemask and talking **** to him. This was the 1970's Raiders and the potshots were happening between the two teams all week. Did Sullivan not think that something like that was going to happen?

Pat was the last thing Matt Millen hit on. He certainly missed every one as Detroit's GM.

The methodology for the Emory study:

n our series of fan base analyses across leagues, we adjust for these complicating factors using a revenue premium model of fan equity. The key idea is that we look at team box office revenues relative to team on-field success, market population, stadium capacity, median income and other factors.

That wasn't the 70s Raiders. That was after the Pats beat the Raiders on the way to Superbowl XX.

Why arent the JETS first ???????????

It is clearly the intense media bias against the Jets that we hear the Jets fans endlessly complain about.

FYI it's Emory University, not college and it's pretty funny that the study was done by a school that doesn't have a football team...........one of the few....

It's a college to me G-Darn it!

they only have 150 fans. but they are 150 of the loyalist fans anywhere.

I had a brainfart. I was actually born later on that year so I wasn't around for it. I just remembered reading that Sullivan wasn't exactly a fan of the Raiders since the Tatum hit in the late 70's.

This study can't possibly be correct. According to a very high percentage of fans of the Bills, Jets, Steelers, etc., the entire fan base of the Patriots are the least loyal of any sports team in America, entirely made up of bandwagon fans who will disappear at any moment.

At least that's what I've been hearing from them and reading them say for about fifteen years now.

Well Emory is a private school, plenty of smaller privates have no football. The only State Universities I can think of without football are Vermont and Alaska.

It's really weird, down here in LA I see a pretty even split of Chargers and Raiders fans, and I can't figure out what the Raiders fans are thinking. The team packed up and left well over a decade ago; every player that they rooted for when the team played in LA has long since retired. I really don't get it.
