I actually used to feel the same way, I hated steeper fans because they always crowded into the bar I worked at in college and were completely obnoxious.

Then last year I was privy to jest fans and my attitude towards the steelers changed.
Not that bad in comparison honestly.

I hear ya.

I kinda like Rex though - don't know why, I just do. And at least you don't hear Jest players run their mouths about spygate and cheating and tainted rings like the players from another certain team. Ryan Clark, James (HG)Harrison and obviously Joey (0 tackles-lol) porter come to mind...

It is amusing that the fanbase and players from the Steelers would be barking the loudest about cheating and spygate more than any other team and fanbase... especially given the fact that not one of the Steelers 6 titles isn't marred by controversy either involving illegal performance enhancing drugs, or the officiating.

Throwing "Tebow beat you!" in Steeler fans face is great fun....

Whatever its absolutely idiotic to play reindeer games with the G.O.A.T at qb with a 3rd stringer who was a great college player but obviously isnt ready to hang with the big boys and never will be in the NFL. Where were you all you Tebow lovers when he wasnt on the Pats oh yea thats right hating on him. Sure it would be cool to see the wildcat but whats the point.....

Tim Tebow’s NFL League Records

Most yards per completion in a playoff game: 31.6 against Pittsburgh in 2012.

Most 30+ yard passes in a playoff quarter: Tebow was the first NFL player ever to complete four passes of 30 yards or more in a single quarter of an NFL playoff game, with 51, 30, 58, & 40. And this was against the 2011-2012 Pittsburgh Steelers rated #1 in defense in the NFL in various, especially relevant categories.

Fewest passes to 300+ yards in any NFL game: According to the authoritative Bleacher Report, Tim Tebow is the only quarterback in the Super Bowl era to throw for 300+ yards in only ten completions.

Only quarterback to throw three 50+ yard passes in a playoff game: since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970 according to Bleacher Report for 51, 58, & 80. Even outside of playoff games, this feat happens only once in a blue moon, as throwing three 50+ yard passes hasn't been done in any NFL game in over twenty years.

Longest touchdown pass in NFL playoff history in overtime: 80 yards, and in the shortest overtime play, 11 seconds, almost a minute quicker than any previous NFL postseason overtime.

Fastest to six game-winning drives: Against the Chicago Bears, Tim Tebow earned a Super Bowl-era NFL league record with his sixth game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime in just his first eleven games!

13+ Point Fourth-Quarter Comebacks: By way of comparison, John Elway, two-time Super Bowl winner, second "most-winningest" NFL quarterback ever, one of the NFL's all-time comeback kings with a great combination of game winning drives and fourth-quarter comebacks who earned his sixth fourth-quarter comeback after 29 games, had won after trailing in the fourth quarter by 13+ points twice in 16 seasons. For this amazing Tebow NFL record, he overcame a 13 or more point deficit in the fourth quarter twice in his only first four games.

Most yards per attempt in a playoff game: Tebow threw for 15 yards per attempt against the Steelers.

Best-selling NFL Jersey: Tebow's #15 became the best-selling NFL jersey when he was drafted, the best-selling ever for a rookie, and has remained among the highest-selling jerseys and in January 2012 is second only to Green Bay's 2011 super bowl winner Aaron Rodgers. [Other Very UNRELATED Jersey Record: See below for $10,000 paid by Bob and Doug for two football jerseys.]

Tim Tebow's Denver Broncos Records

Most passing yards in a playoff debut: 316. (This media-dubbed playoff win of "biblical proportions" led to the 3:16 quarterback getting around the NFL ban on eye-black messages with the media spreading the word of the John 3:16 game with Tebow's 31.6 yards per completion for coach John Fox and back office exec John Elway, and the last quarter Nielsen ratings were a record-breaking 31.6 for a playoff game, with 42 million people watching the game, more than doubling the NFL playoff average of 18 million viewers. Also, a million people now know the NFL record for most yards per completion in a playoff game. How many people were aware of this stat before Tebow’s win against the Steelers?)

Highest postseason rating: Tebow’s passer rating was 125.6, the highest in Broncos playoff history.

Tim Tebow's NFL Records, Etc. | Bob Enyart Live

So in short all of Tebows "records" came in one game against a beat up Steelers defense without Ryan Clark. Dope dude he had some big plays what was his completion percentage in that game? Love how you repeat the same facts over and over again Yards per attempt and yards per completion really dude? Go back and watch those 6 comebacks, most of them were take-aways by the defense and Tebow moved the ball 10 yards then got a prayer from Prater while he continuously booted 55 plus yard fieldgoals to make it a game.

Unreal. Keep hanging on this dudes sac its comical.

I would dispute that "relevance". As I've discussed many times already the Steelers defense that year really wasn't all that. A "paper tiger", as this loss clearly demonstrated. I could care less what one or two numbers on the the stat sheet say.

It just shows you that an informed football fan should not judge a team or player by mindlessly looking at a stat sheet and picking numbers that "look good" to them...without having watched the team in question at all, without looking at all the numbers together, and obviously without knowing the context like who they played that year.

I realize it's a great story to think and wish that Tim Tebow somehow manhandled one of the greatest defenses in football... perfectly understandable to wish that was the case....and like I said I loved the result, and I'm not trying to rain on the parade here.... but wishing just doesn't make it so...

Before last season I predicted that the Jets would flounder and that Tebow would step in and light a fire underneath of them and they'd challenge for a wildcard spot.

I've liked him since he started winning games for the Broncos and his win against the Steelers was the most fun I've had outside of Patriots wins.

You can dispute it all you want. The fact is that you were wrong when you and I had this discussion previously and you are wrong now to try and bring this canard back up. And your "wishful thinking" doesn't change that.

No. You CHOOSE to see it that way. Learn the difference. Don't throw around the word "fact" to describe what is your opinion. An opinion I completely disagree with, for sound reasons based in real fact which I've already discussed.

Like I said. Perfectly understandable to hope and wish that the fairytale happy ending story of Tim beating one of the great defenses the NFL in the playoffs is reality. I do not judge that. But wishful thinking just doesn't make it so. In this case it is not so.

Hahaha, you don't throw for over 300 yards by accident in a NFL game.

This thread is mind boggling.

How on Earth do we have a 95 page thread about a backbencher?

Someone please put this thread out to pasture.

Hahaha, it's an incredibly small accomplishment in today's NFL and still something he's managed to do only once in the regular season (16 starts, 35 games) and once in the playoffs.

There you go with the straw man argument. No one says that the 2011 Pitt defense was one of the great defenses in NFL history. What is beyond denial is that Pitt was the #1 defense that year heading into the playoffs. Iirc, they were #1 in terms of yards allowed per game AND #1 in scoring.

Last time you went on about how they didn't have that many takeaways. I have NEVER heard of ANYONE ranking overall defense on the basis of takeaways. I've seen where people have pointed out that a defense led the league in interceptions, or if forced fumbles, but that's not the same discussion.

Even Ryan Leaf threw for 300+ yards once.

And he completed less than 50% of his passes in that game too. Hmm, familiar...

Here is whats really funny. And in no way am I saying Tim is or ever will be like TB12. In Tom Bradys first year starting he only passed for over 300 yards twice, once in the regular season and once in the playoffs... Just sayin.

Huh? Where on earth did I say "in history"? Straw man indeed.

I already put into perspective why that so called "#1 ranking" cannot be taken at face value. If you wanna be a stat hound then look at all the numbers, not just the ones you like. And put those numbers into perspective. Is it really that impressive to be the #1 pass or scoring defense when your team played 8... count em... EIGHT games against teams ranked in the bottom 11 in passing? And only ONE game against a top 10 team? Think about that.

Struggling to make big plays such as getting sacks and turnovers is typical of an old and slow defense. Which they were.

I am not trying to downplay that win or be anti Tebow, I'm just a realist. And the statement that Tim "beat" a great defense that day is not realistic so I will challenge it.

I would be interested to see what Tim's fans would think about that Steeler defense if it was another QB, some under the radar guy playing for the Broncos that day and the Broncos won in the same fashion.

I think I know the answer to that one.

Brady was also a game manager and a guy nobody would have predicted to have a HOF career and multiple league MVPs. The difference between Brady now and then is like night and day. Both statistically and actually watching him play with my own eyes.

I'm not 100% sure... but I believe this debate has been had before... a number of times... The cycle continues I guess.

You make a great point.

The Patriots backup QBs - who in nearly every instance have failed to become decent starters with all 31 other NFL teams - have typically been viewed by the majority of PatsFandom as the most talented, popular and considered the most under-rated players on the roster.

Conversely, Tebow is the backup QB who everyone seems to hate, regardless of the fact that he has many more NFL wins than Rohan Davey or just about every Patriots backup QB from the Belichick era combined.

Thus, given the history of player popularity among "knowledgeable" fans who think every backup has been worth a 1st or a 2nd rounder, Tebow probably has a much better shot to contribute.

Fans can't seem to get it through their heads that Belichick didn't bring Tebow here to challenge Brady at QB. He brought him here for the problems he causes for Defenses, even (especially) if he's on the field while Brady is under center (little things like carrying the ball for 31 yards on 4 carries.)

Cassel was a good NFL quarterback. He made a pro bowl in KC. Unfortunately, the organization was inept, the HC was a basketcase, and he had a new OC pretty much every year. They basically broke him, which is a shame, because his pro bowl year was not a fluke. He had limitations as a quarterback, but on the right team he proved that he was absolutely capable of winning games and getting you to the playoffs.

If the past two seasons in KC haven't completely broken him, it'll be interesting to see what he can do in Minnesota if Ponder gets hurt.

Of course. Like I said, it's just a coincidence and I thought it funny since the armchair qb thought he would throw his dig in a tebow that I'd point out TB didn't do it in his first year either. But I'm sure he will come back at me and say how TB was soooo much better than Tebow, and he will be right. It was just something to share.

And lets just say, hypothetically, that Tebow does get better and turns into a starter down the road. I could say the same thing in a decade or more. It is unlikely, impossible if you ask some, but it could happen.

The 08 Pats were a lot of fun to watch and I think they were getting hot at just the right time (won something like 5 of their last 6 including a 40 point beatdown of the soon to be NFC champs) . Cassel's play was a big reason for that.

It's too bad we never got to see how far they would have gone....not saying they were a Super Bowl team with Cassel but I think they would have made a little noise in the playoffs...
