Dennard arrested for DUI

I would be very disappointed in the Patriots if they cut him immediately.

And I am disappointed in the Patriots fans here who want him cut today. If you do and you can honestly say you'd feel the same had Hernandez not happened, then I at least respect your opinion though I don't agree. But if you thinking is "I'm tired of this" then IMO that's lazy thinking. Each incident should stand on its own.

I do, however, reserve the right to change my opinions if the Nebraska judge does something like order him to jail immediately, because that does directly and materially impact the Patriots. And the judge is in a better position than we are to judge the facts of the case.

I probably wouldn't be as hasty if A-Perp hadn't happened, but I see no reason why I should ignore it.

Beyond all the reasons why it is idiocy in its own right, Dennard did this when the team was already suffering through one of the league's worst PR nightmares. It absolutely should be factored in.

The guy is on probation for assaulting an officer. He refused a sobriety test. How many chances should he get? And, yes while the Ahern thing is going on. I think the writing is on the wall. He's toast.

Looks like Florio will have some more material for the next week or two to try and make his legions of Pats haters arf and clap.

Yup.
They got to cut him as soon as possible. After what Kraft said the other day.
You got to send a message to the players.
Otherwise we have officially become the Raiders,Cowboys, Bengals.

I do believe that there will be a huge purge after this season if there is no championship.Including Belichick. Kraft is not stupid and will determine its time for organizational changes.

The word that comes to mind here sounds something like "domous."

Interesting. Do you think the sobriety test was video taped, like they do on "Cops?" Or is the stenght of this case most likely dependent upon the quality of the write-up by the office?

I don't know in this case, but I work in a major city and we do not have cameras in the cars. And yes it comes down to the report by the officer because he/she will be the only one to taking the stand. DUI trials are a circus and take up to 4 hours at times and I have been on the stand for those 4+ hours getting grilled.

If you have a $10,000 lawyer your chances go up that you will get a not guilty, because these lawyers are that good.

I studied a lot and read all the manuals and researched the web, because you have to if you want to win.

I will give an example I have a friend I work with and he has been on the job 18+ years. He had some family issues and went to mids when at the time I worked mids. He had not arrested someone for a DUI offense in years. He stops me in the hallway at court and says B I need some help I heard your really good at this and everyone said I should talk to you. I asked him to read his report and after reading three paragraphs to told him that he was going to get crushed in which he did. His report was 2 pages in a day and age where if your not writing a 5 page report your wrong.

The guy/gal could be drunker than hell, if you can not translate that to paper then your going to get crushed.

I had a case where I lost my breath result of a .15, because defense lawyer who was outstanding found out the state was using out dated booklets and the judge agreed and tossed my breath result of a .15. I won in the end, but these things pop up and get a case tossed in a heartbeat.

There could be a hearing to surpress the car stop and if it goes in favor for the defense then everything after the car stop is tosses and no DUI charge.

Before Hernandez and Dennard who was the last Patriots player* to be arrested and when was he arrested?

*Dennard's arrest last year does not count, wasn't a member of the team

Patsfans PSA to Patriot Players:

People get arrested when they break the law. Please refrain from breaking laws as you will likely be cut if you get arrested.

...The More You Know....

FROM: NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS FOOTBALL CLUB, INC.
TO: ALL PLAYERS CURRENTLY UNDER CONTRACT
RE.: PERSONAL CONDUCT POLICY

A reminder to all -- doing bad things is bad! B-A-D BAD! If you have difficulty understanding this concept, please consult your mother. If you have no mother, we ask that you review the following, preferably in your agent's office:

There is this thing called "consequences" that occurs when you do something bad and get what generically is referred to as "in trouble." Being in trouble is to be avoided! Consequences generally include (but are not limited to):

(1) Loss of freedom, resulting from having broken the law and being arrested (jail/prison).
(2) Loss of money, resulting from lawsuits, fines, or if we can your ass for being a clueless moron.

For an illustrative example of these concepts, we suggest you review recent circumstances involving your EX-teammate, Aaron Hernandez. Please discuss all of the above thoroughly with your mother and/or agent. If you need clarification, contact us as soon as possible.

Thanks, and good luck for the balance of this off-season. Hopefully, you will not need it.

Re: dennard arrested

Many or them, including Dennard are not responsible adults; they are over-indulged, selfish, entitled children.

I don't know what to say about Hernandez. Murder, if he is guilty, is a whole different category of evil.

This is true, but most of them also have the sense of "my extravagant life is worth the small amount of effort it takes to not wind up in jail".

And if a warning of 'if you mess up again you'll go to jail' doesn't keep you in line, how is a coach supposed to?

I think cutting Dennard for this is a little premature. Yeah, he's a moron, but if you start cutting all your players for DUIs you could have trouble filling a 53 man roster.

The punching the cop incident happened before he was a Patriot so this is technically his first offense. DUIs are under the substance abuse policy. So I don't even know if Goodell can suspend Dennard for his under the personal conduct policy.

The young man has a drinking problem. He couldn't control his drinking after he punched a cop and is facing jail time. The DUI is the icing on the cake. The pats almost have to cut him because of the Hernandez situation. Personally, I would cut him because he needs to start rehab and get his life in order.

There's a difference to supporting a player who is being sued for a non criminal action or being sued frivolously (like Moss was); and a player that is breaking the law in a very serious way.

If this were me (just a upper middle class citizen) and my employer, they also wouldn't care about the former and would probably fire me for the latter.

This is the NFL and not your occupation so the comparison falls apart. There have been what, almost 40 arrests of NFL players this offseason? Imagine if every one of those players were cut? There is a different tolerance level for this type of thing in the NFL. There have already been several times that the Patriots have supported players that have broken "the law in a very serious way" so I don't agree with your statement. The difference now is that the Patriots are sensitive to arrests after the Hernandez situation.

Seriously if Tom Brady is arrest tomorrow for a DUI are you going to advocate cutting him because he broke the law in a very serious way? Of course not. It works differently in the NFL.

Julien Edelman in 2011 -- whose case was thrown out.

Before that, the 2008 offseason with the double Willie Andrews fiasco, Kevin Faulk, and Nick Kazcur.

Hate to piss on your parade pal. But Tom Curran basically said the same thing on weei moments ago.

I believe you're dead on.
A classmate of mine went into DUI law. Lives on an estate bordering the water, a barn full of Arabian horses and kids sent to Harvard. All on getting NH drivers off on DUI, a very lucrative profession for the skilled.

As bad as this is, as a driver I'm much more worried about cell users and especially texters whose distracted driving I encounter almost every day. But that's a digression.

Unless there's something we don't know and he has a very strong defense to DUI or it's a mistake, how do you not release him? Don't the Patriots have to?

If you don't release him, and he does something violent in the future or hurts someone driving drunk or something like that, the Patriots likely would never recover. Is Alfonzo Dennard a player you want to bet on at this point?

Every other team in the league could consider taking a chance on a guy like this. Ours cannot. Do you really want to trust the reputation of this franchise for the next generation or longer on a guy who, with everything that's going on, drives drunk? He has the judgment of a donut.

Adios. Sorry, we're not in a position to play Father Flannagan right now.

Hate to piss on your parade pal. But Tom Curran basically said the same thing on weei moments ago.

And it sounded just as stupid coming from him. :)

I honestly don't even care if he gets cut. Sick of rooting for genuinely stupid people that don't even have a basic sense of accountability and having your **** together.

That said, I don't think he'll be cut, and I do find it odd that this is bigger news league-wide than that Browns rookie's attempted murder charge. Even if the Pats cut Dennard, they're out a seventh rounder. Those guys rarely make the roster anyways, so worst-case scenario they got one year of starter-caliber corner play in a season where they had Super Bowl aspirations. That is, and will always be, excellent return on a seventh rounder.

Hate to piss on your parade pal. But Tom Curran basically said the same thing on weei moments ago.

It doesn't change my opinion of the idea that anything less than a championship would result in Belichick getting the boot.

For the life of me, I cannot fathom why anybody on this forum reads his crap, much less reads it, then links it on the forum where other people can go to read it and give that dunce clicks. He sucks. He's basically a glorified troll that gets paid to do what he does and his website is an absolute joke. Please stop linking him.
