Another Suspect In Hernandez Case Caught

ESPN going with a banner that says he was "Captured." From what the police are saying, the guy lives in Florida, walked into a police station, and said, "I heard on the news you all were looking for me, here I am." That's one heck of a "capture"!

Hard to believe he was one of the guys in the car as seems to be the speculation everywhere based on this.

Strange that he'd turn himself in unless he really did nothing wrong.

Also if these are the two guys who were with Hernandez in the car and the next morning, who did the DA get the private conversation details from (unless it was from the NSA, as we know they record everything and also have the ability to turn on cell phone mics remotely)

It's really not clear whether either of the two guys arrested (Ortiz or Wallace) were in the car. Ortiz seems like a possibility, because supposedly Hernandez texted to Connecticut to get his buddies up there.

Remember in the original hearing, the prosecutor talked about how the "temperature" was rising in the car before Lloyd sent his last texts. The implication was that there were conversations where Lloyd started to perceive his life was in danger. The prosecutor was much less vocal about what went on in the car during the second bail hearing. I think either they have one of the other two guys they allege were in the car cooperating with them, and we just haven't heard his name yet. Or the prosecutor sort of speculated based on texts what he thinks might have been said during the car ride. Seems the former is much more likely.

I know it seems like just a little thing, but I grow so tired of reporters who can't get simple facts straight. For example, in the FESPN story, the reporter says

.......a Hummer belonging to Hernandez turned up an ammunition clip matching the caliber of casings found at the scene of Lloyd's killing.

A clip cannot match the caliber of the casings. In fact, it wasn't a "clip" that was recovered, but a magazine. Clips are designed to hold rounds as an easy way to load them into a magazine. A magazine holds rounds and feeds them into the weapon one by one as they are expended.

What should have been said is that a magazine was recovered from a vehicle associated with Hernandez. That magazine was designed to hold cartridges of the same type and caliber as expended cartridge cases found at the scene of Lloyd's murder.

Like I said, it's perhaps nit picking, but if reporters cannot get the little details right, especially when all it would take would be maybe 5 minute's on a search engine, then what else have they gotten wrong?

I remember hearing that he was wanted for stuff after-the-fact; he apparently wasn't one of the men in the car.

The media's motto is "Don't worry about being right, worry about being first." They will never retract a false report, just move on with all new false reports. since the late 80's/early 90's and onward the media has become more and more about entertainment and less about actual facts and reporting. Ratings not facts attract higher paying sponsors.

Not just the phone

It might come as a frightening realization, but pushing the button to get rid of the deceptively helpful robotic voice doesn’t come close to solving the problem. Invisible to the naked eye, the OnStar connection lingers – whether you want it or not. True to its name, the OnStar is always on. Like a psychotic stalker, it’s simply unwilling to hang up – that is, unless you’re willing to take a hammer to your brand new Cadillac, because the GM dealership won’t help you either. In fact, they will politely refuse to even attempt to locate and remove the OnStar modem, insisting that its operation is so intrinsically intertwined with the inner workings of your car that removing it would render your vehicle virtually inoperable

Maybe I have it wrong but isn't the last text from Lloyd telling his sister who he was with and it is "NFL". I didn't take from that fearing of his life. I took from that someone saying 'hey! I am with someone famous!" (just my own read). Which also made me wonder how Lloyd was a "friend" of AH's but he was texting like he had rarely been with AH before. My interpretation was Lloyd and AH were not really friends, probably closer to acquaintances.
Anyway, if that is the case with the texts, it suggests someone may have their timeline a bit off.....

I think the guy in CT was the one who was starting to spill the beans becasue it sounds like the cops know the tension was rising in the car and the only way you know that is by an eye witness

If AH and Lloyd were hanging out for a year, it would be highly unlikely the first time he txted his sister about it to tell her he was with someone famous was when they were in the car that night

Yup, you have both the txt and your read wrong. I believe that the txt was a longer line, seemingly done to implicate/identify the person with whom he was with (because he seemed concerned about his safety). Plus, he was already well known to AH, hanging out with him in clubs etc. So, no way he was gloating over in his last fateful ride.

Even without the txts..based on what we know the case is pretty strong. If you remember the prosecution told the judge at bail hearing that they arn't going to tell them the entire motive that day. Saving it for trial so the defense can't defend it.

My guess is they know more about the double murder in 2012 then they are telling us if he is truly involved.

If you're suggesting for a second that the media is lazy about being accurate, you need to take that back, and do it right now. God forbid anyone else should be even a millimeter off in terms of accuracy, because those frauds will skewer that person. But for them to do that, now, that's literary license.

Legal folks—is this correct: discovery is limited to evidence/testimony (and both sides have to divulge evidence), but neither side is required to divulge their theory of motive (or lack thereof)?

i remember after the prosecution said they aren't going to disclose the entire motive at that moment...the defense guy said something like "their only motive is he talked to the wrong guy at the club...not very strong". Ya only motive at they know of at this point

I was making the assumption that Lloyd didn't know his murder was imminent as the drive was seemingly, I'd assume he thought, to AH's house. However, point taken. I see that there was an additional "just so you know" final text that seems to put the texts into a somber and serious note.
The DA says "Hernandez told Lloyd he was upset about what happened at the club and didn’t trust him". How does he know? Plus there are others only connected with the case being arrested in Fla, maybe Conn, yet the at least one maybe two of the men in the car that night remain "unidentified". How do they know of only connections to the murder but don't the names of the guys in the car? Sure seem one of the two men in the car is in custody and talking......

I have to say that I found it incredibly, incredibly frustrating at the time to read Mike Florio's self-righteous hypocrisy when denouncing Hernandez' lawyers for "painting the media with a broad brush" and demanding the lawyers pony up with "concrete proof".

But really? The sheer hypocrisy of typing that should have made his head explode.. even though its now evident that the lawyers were in fact just reverse obfuscating public opinion.

I just have no respect for how certain "reporters" use their fame/columns as a bully pulpit to spew their own personal vindictive vitriol.

Stop pretending to be reporters and label your columns as Editorials or Opinion Pieces.

That said. This was one of the two times of the day where the media's vulturistic sensationalism was unfortunately pretty close to the mark.

If Ortiz & Wallace were the other 2 passengers, then how the hell does the DA know that Hernandez
was the shooter?
And if Ortiz & Wallace were not the other 2 passengers, then who the hell are the other 2, and where
are they now?
