I don't hold out much hope of getting another receiver with the next pick. Let's look at the facts. Bill wanted to trade our 3rd round pick for Sanders - evidence that he didn't particularly like the value on offer. He then passed on a number of these guys twice, once for a 7th round type player. I think it's clear he doesnt want them - at least maybe until the later rounds.

I also think Bill was trying to trade the pick badly. We waited until right to the last second to submit, couldn't find a trade partner so took the guy who was highest on our board - who apparently was Harmon.

I should point out that according to Patriot Reign, it's not just about how good is player X, its about how good is player X compared to whoever on the roster. So they were evaluating Harmon against Gregory, Ebner, Wilson etc.

My opinion tomorrow is that they try and trade out of the 102 pick, get a later 4th and a 5th and take some more bodies for camp depth and perhaps an injury gamble type player. The draft is over more or less for us in terms of guys who can really expect to contribute next year in any meaningful way. I don't mean that in a bad way, we came into the draft with a pretty solid roster with few openings.

It's been an okay draft - I'd give it a C with the potential to be a B+ if the top two picks work out.

All in all i loved the second round, i wanted a beast receiver and we get one. I wanted pass rush with abit more oomph and we got it big style.

Logan Ryan is meh and the other guy who i don't even know is exactly that: the other guy i don't even know apart from he can be burned like arrington.

Thank you for typing that up quicker than I was going to, Mr. 75!

That track record in rounds 2-4 I talked about last night and was laughed off this board for ? Hahahah

The year we picked Vollmer:
Butler, Brace, Chung.

How'd that work out?
4 picks, one starter 25%.

Out of the 20 - that is 2-0, TWENTY - defensive backs we've taken, how many are elite? How feared is our ELITE SECONDARY after all these awesome DB picks cut from gold cloth? We're so great we needed to flip a 4th round to team to get a CB with a pass defense worse than ours.

And just what does sycophant mean anyway?

Yes, this is likely the end of the Ebner experiment. Both Dobson and Ryan are top special teamers.

If Ebner bulks up a little he may be okay at coverage LB, eventually playing LB. Or not.

For a team that preaches best player available, does anyone honestly think this was the top rated guy on the board? I think this is purely a BB pick and I also think a lot of scouts would not be very happy right now. This is why I think we need a Pioli type presence in the front office to stand up to BB. You have an entire scouting department and you have to trust the process, I don't see any evidence of that in this pick. I will go along with the "in Bill we trust" but if this pick doesn't pan out, like the Tavon Wilson pick, the media should call him out for it.

Hmmm.... Our drafts actually improved dramatically after Pioli left.

I really don't understand the idiocy on this board? There are very few sure things when it comes to drafting players. BB's recent and long term history of selecting players is as good as any.

All teams miss on players from time to time.

The fact that you or other media sources aren't high on a prospect means nothing. Getting worked up about this stuff before we've ever seen the guys play is foolish.

Failing to learn all of the above and repeating the same process year after year is both boring and annoying.

Vollmer was not a WTF pick....he was first round talent easily.

Not according to cbs draft scout or SI, before the draft. CBS said second day, which was 4th at best, and SI said 4th.

This kid is uber confident, and with his attitude, he'll push everyone on the team to excel. I don't know if he'll ever be a difference maker on the field, but based on this interview, he will be a difference maker for the team as a whole.

Exclusive Interview: Duron Harmon, DB, Rutgers University » NFL Draft Zone

SD: What message would you like to send to NFL teams about Duron Harmon?

Duron Harmon: I am a hardworking player that has the intelligence to pick up your playbook, the skill sets to play the position and the mindset to dominate on your special teams and the leadership qualties to be a leader on your team. Many people want to go to the NFL becasue of the money, but although the money is nice I want to play because I love this sport. I do not
need the NFL to make money, I have 3.47 gpa and I plan on becoming a labor lawyer which will pay me good money for a lot more years than I would play football but it has always been a dream of mine to play in the NFL and I will live that dream on one of these 32 teams in the NFL. SD: Last question, first purchase with your NFL paycheck?

Duron Harmon: Life Insurance policy for my son.

SD: Thank so much for your time Duron and good luck in the NFL. Please give Duron a follow and a hello on Twitter @dharm32 And you can follow me on Twitter at @ShaunDePasquale

Then we switched from a 3-4 to a 4-3. Butler, Brace and Chung all have jobs, elsewhere, but jobs. The system switch, IMO, was a major factor in their failure here.

BB is definitely going Moneyball on us..........

He looks at the draft boards and draftnik assessments and throws out all the rules we are accustomed to...........He views it as an equation rather than picking names

Hence the Kraft statement "we are not here to win the PR Battles anymore" that should've clued us all in on this today.

I just hope whoever it is at 102(Likely a trade-out for 2014 3rd) along with (52)Jaime Collins and (83) Logan Ryan > (29) Cordarelle Patterson...............

Other than Harmon, I think the Pats had pretty good draft tonight. Filled needs with players built to fit those needs.

Look at SF. Very few if any holes on that roster.
Look at us.

Yeah.

Why? Because of these stupid ******* reaches.
That's 20 DBs or more and counting.

How many of those DBs turned into solid starters? Pro Bowl players?
How's our pass defense?

We SUCK at this. Period.

Suck at what, exactly? Building a football team? You mean the one that has won the most Super Bowls and has the best regular season record in the entire league since 2001?

Or do you mean drafting? In which case, let me refer you to this article (linked below) which shows that you are utterly and embarrassingly wrong about that. In fact, the Patriots are one of the very best drafting teams in the NFL, and have been during the entire BB era.

It might be in the dictionary.

Add Deion Branch and Stevan Ridley to the WTF picks that would have supposedly lasted a couple more rounds.

Not sure if McCourty was projected low but he was rather suprising IIRC.

YOur point is ******ed dude. Jarvis Jones put up better numbers than Collins and thus got drafted early. What's the point of your question again? Phillip Steward had better numbers than Collins in Conference USA, did he get drafted already?

My point was to show that you were talking out your rear end. You made a claim that Collins numbers didn't stand out. You were wrong. They DID stand out since the tackles and TFLs are similar to that of Jones who benefitted from having the likes of John Jenkins, Kwame Geathers, Baccarri Rambo, and Alec Ogeltree on his team compared to who on Southern Miss? I don't see you mentioning THAT about Jones? That he benefitted from an amazing amount of talent around him. Of course, I also don't see you mentioning that Jones was nearly invisible during the game against Alabama either. Or that Jones played in 2 more games than Collins did.

Now, the difference between Collins and Steward should be obvious. Collins is 6/3 4/8" and 250 lbs. Prototypical size for a 3-4 OLB. His 10 yard split was 1.58. His vertical was a staggering 41 1/2" and his broad jump was 11' 07". Compared to Steward who is 6'0 4/8" tall and 237 lbs (played at 223). Steward had a 34 1/2" vertical and a 10' 02" broadjump. Steward did have a good 10 yard split at 1.62. He'll be a special teamer or maybe end up on a team that uses the smaller type OLBs in the 4-3. He might need to move inside to be an ILB in the 3-4.

They traded down, which gave them a chance to address multiple need positions with top prospects, and then they wasted the opportunity it gave them.

Well, thankfully, there's still the Jets to laugh at.

I think sometimes people miss the point when fans get angry at BB too- the question should NOT be whether or not the pick works out. Any pick may or may not work out.

The point is the pick itself has value, and especially in a case like this, why not draft someone more conventionally rated AND sign this dude later. You don't need to use a pick to pick up scraps like this. Even IF this guy turns out to be a HOFer, it wouldn't make this a good pick.

These picks always feel like a response to a gradeschool dare. "I dare you to take ...personx... now instead of round 7. I DARE you."

"ok."

I love BB, I love being a Pats fan, we've been the best team forever. That does not mean wild reaches like this are the right thing to do.

And let's stop using McCourty as an example of a reach that worked. He's only "working out" because he got demoted to a different position where we were thin because Chung didn't work out.

Alright, done venting. Liked our other picks, at least.

Brady was taken in the 6th. It what universe is that a WTF pick?

Quote from the 2000 draft:

"WTF!!! We've already got three QB's. We need to see what we have in Bishop...He may be our QB of the future. This is a waste of a pick!"
