so much for Mallet being worth the #6 pick.

I don't see the connection. Flynn has a much bigger contract and Seattle were keen to get rid of it. On the other hand, Patriots are in no rush to offload Mallett and will only take a highish pick to move him.

True but he has proven more than Mallett and I think his contract is about 5M for 2013.

They wanted to get rid of him, sure, but why would Cleveland pay the #6 pick when they could have gotten Flynn for a couple of low round picks? Worlds different in price.

It would all depend on whether Lombardi really did like Mallett as much as he said - and whether he could convince other decision makers. FWIW, I don't think Mallett's getting traded now as there's no-one to plug in with experience of the system (unless Hoyer gets released).

This is a great deal by the Raiders though. a 5th rounder in 2014 and maybe a late rounder in 2015. What's to lose?

Matt Flynn's dignity?

Mallett was a much better QB in college than Flynn. Not to say he'd be traded for the 6th pick, but I could envision a scenario where Cleveland trades down if their target is gone (e.g Millner or G. Smith), picks up a 2nd and sends that pick to us for Mallet (I've read NE will accept only a 1 or 2 for him.) If Mallett were in this draft and had a clean off field slate, he'd probably be the first or second rated QB.

Flynn has zero upside. Zero. I'm a Mallett fan and in no rush to trade him unless we get a good offer (meaning no less than a mid #2); maybe I overvalue him but Flynn is in no way comparable to Mallett even if Flynn had a good game against us 2-3 years ago.

And Colt McCoy has been traded to the 49ers. Room at the Cleveland inn.
