Amendola To Practice With Brady Out West

That's an interesting hypothetical.

WW was our pass catching machine. When the Patriots needed 6 yards, WW was there for 7 yards very consistently. It is hard to argue a guy, DA, who averages less receptions would be the better guy even for one game. I'm not saying that as a fact, just saying it isn't an easy point to argue. And the "talent upgrade" suggestion means very little. Production is what counts.

With that said, given DA showed very solid numbers in the last two seasons he actually played (or mostly played), and given he is coming to a team that is likely much more conducive to catching passes, and given he is approaching his prime, let's see what he does here. He may show he is not only the guy you would want in that AFCCG, he may show he is more than that. I am optimistic of that possibility.

Dont get me wrong. I wanted WW to make the deal and stay.......but

thinking about it WW got his #s and moved the chains sure. But did you EVER get the feeling that he TOOK OVER A GAME.

Jesters /Ravens figured out the counter - PLAY WHACK A MOLE; by the 3Q he wont be as good and you can pull the game out.

One way of thinking about it is WW is BB's Defense in reverse. He traps the offense into giving the other team a freebie BEND-BUT-DONT BREAK D. IF you DONT have another (Explosive) option there like Gronkadez or Corey Dillon to make the D pay then you are just moving down the field but not getting in when it counts.

Personnally at least in the last AFCCG I blame the play calling and lack of reliance on running game more than the above theory; but it is a theory with some logic to it.

Giselle will welcome this summer visitor to her West Coast home. At last, Brady won't have to throw the ball and catch it at the same time.

Yes, I know I'm taking a tongue-in-cheek quote and answering seriously, but hey, this is the internet.

The media overlords make Brady seem like this over-emotional basket case who can't work hard if he's pissed off. Hell, I'm frequently pissed off at the management where I work. Doesn't stop me from doing my job, and I get paid a whole lot less, and the evidence of any lassitude isn't examined in fine detail by 100 million guys with nothing else to do.

Brady was never going to sulk. He's no Randy Moss.

It goes even deeper than that. Look at the contract Flacco got, or Romo!!!!! Aaron Rogers is going to get the biggest deal of all, and Manning is breaking the bank in Denver.

Now look at Tom Brady, who can absolutely argue that HE should be the highest paid. And look what he did. Unbelievable. They just don't make athletes like this anymore, and what a refreshing thing it is.

And for those saying, "Yeah well, Gisele makes more anyway," it isn't about the money with these other guys as much as it's about the EGO. There's no difference in lifestyle between 50 million and 100 million. It's about feeding the appreciation appetite and the ego.

Brady is in a class all by himself.

Brady has already reached the top of Maslow's pyramid and is working his way down it now. :rocker:

The other QB's are still stroking their egos.

Amendola staying at the west wing of the mansion. TB needs to keep his throws away from the moat amd keep the alligators well fed. Don't want Danny getting hurt before ota's.

Definitely a good thing though. Hope they build a whole new dynamic duo this season.

I definitely believe ...TB was to zoned in on WW too often also. With him gone, I see us going back to our roots.......of having TB distributing the ball more and throwing to the open receiver. I think we need to add another receiver too ....as I think BB's work is still a work in progress....so ...keep your chin up ..fellow Pats Fans :)

Exactly, and then he also won't be zoned on another choker.

hope he doesn't get hurt :)

lol, i can see the headlines now..

"Amendola out for the season after breaking his collarbone practicing in shorts and a tshirt out west with Brady."

I will be holding my breath all training camp hoping he doesn't get hurt :ugh:

Yes there were several instances. I remember one game (Broncos??) where the entire Patriots offense was pathetic the entire first half, first drive of the second half Welker had like 6 catches for 80 yards and a TD. Just willed the Patriots back to life.

Welker has taken over games and dominated defenses on many occasions. I wouldn't be surprised him to do the same against us when we play him this season.

I think the writing was on the wall a bit way back last summer when we heard whispers about Amendola being in Boston etc. Of course as we found out, he was here for a personal reason (funeral), but that didn't stop some of us from thinking about the replacement and swap out of Welker.

Amendola is actually a very tough guy who has the same kind of heart and drive that Welker had. Does anyone remember seeing him break his collarbone in the Thursday night game after having a very nice opening half, only to have the cameras follow him down the tunnel inside where he promptly smashed his helmet against the wall? He couldn't have cared less about his pain or his broken collarbone, he was only pissed that he wasn't able to help his team or continue playing. That is the exact kind of player that we need to replace someone like Welker, not to mention the fact that he's got a ton of less milage on him, is younger, is faster, and has better hands for catches above the waist if you look at his highlight reels.

The injuries occurred haven't been the kind of chronic, nagging injuries that doom a player into missing time every season (cough...Talib...cough), but rather a couple of freak accidents much like Gronkowski. He's actually better outside of the numbers than Welker, and already has a good knowledge of the JMcD's offensive system--which is enormous in my opinion.

I respect Welker a lot, but I also fully believe that Amendola actually has the potential to be even better with Tom Brady and this offense leading him to higher goals and production. I think Amendola surprises a lot of people in the first couple of months. That said, I'd still like to have Edelman retained too, just in case of needed insurance. I'd hate to lose that aspect of the offense altogether.

Except when it counts.

He's had good to great games in all of our playoff elimination games since arriving here minus 2010 when he was on one leg.

This idiotic hate for Welker for two bad plays needs to stop. Without Welker we do not even make it to that position. Sorry, when our offense takes three steps back this season I'm going to laugh as you and all the other idiots bemoan how we need Welker back after all-but running him out of town instead of appreciating what he's done.

Welker created a borderline HOF career here, is a lock for Patriots HOF, and helped carry this team. I mean even this past season, everyone on offense was dropping like flies, and who was there to carry us? Welker.

Sorry, no one can have 12 catch, 150 yard games every playoff game like you apparently expect.

Um, no. Our offense most certainly will not take three steps back.

.

I am sure you are praying that the Pats O stalls out so you can beat your chest and tell everyone how right you were.

I guess there is a first time for everything.

Yep. I have just accepted the fact that there are quite a few ******s in the Patriots fanbase, and they are the ones calling him a choker etc...

Amendola should be a really good player for NE but I just don't get the claims he will be better. To actually be better he will have to put up absurd numbers and while i can see 100 catches and 1100 yards i just don't see him or anyone else catching 140 balls for 1,600 yards etc... I also don't get the claims that he is m ore explosive when his YPC and YAC aren't as good as Welker's. i think most of it is wishful thinking. i hope he pujts up 100/1000 with a ton of first downs, that will be good enough for me.

But guess what when it truly counted he couldn't do it. That's what determines championships. Because guess what, 1 or 2 drops determine a loss and win in the playoffs, and welker didn't do it. Heck gronk was the reason we went to the Super Bowl in 2011. He was huge in the divisional game, Baltimore couldn't do what they did last year and we won that one barely. Welker is not the answer to Super Bowl victories, the Troy browns and deon branches are. Ones who were great but not big statistical guys. They were clutch guys. That's what hopefully amendola will be and still be a big producer. Sorry but I would rather have a clutch guy instead of a stats choker.

Then I hope you don't mind if I in turn laugh at you if (more like when) Amendola duplicates Welker's success.

Welker will never get to pad his stats from Frankenstein when he has 2 other wr's that could be probowlers as well. I can't stand the Donko's but, picking up Welker does help them out.
