Re: New England Patriots Are Interested In Drafting Exiled LSU CB Prospect Tyrann Mat
Until someone shows me some other problems Dennard had during college, I'd suggest you'd use some other adjective to describe him other than "troubled". Unless you have led the "perfect" life. A single bar incident that spiraled into his court case, should NOT label someone as "troubled. Des Bryant is "troubled". Pac Man Jones was "troubled". You can even put Aquib Talib in that category, if you feel the need, but as far as I can see, not Alphonzo Dennard.
And if smoking weed is any indication of being "troubled". you'd have characterize three quarters of my entire generation as "troubled" (not myself though, but only because I couldn't master the skill of inhaling, and so I became doomed to be everyone's "straight friend" ) As far as I can see the only thing Mathieu has been guilty of is being stupid enough to keep on failing drug tests for weed. Smoking weed doesn't make you a bad person anymore than drinking beer. That is a hypocracy that really should end once and for all.
I am far more concerned about the "honey badger's" height, weight and relative lack of strength or remarkable speed and quickness. He was clearly an outstanding college DB, and played at a high level. So did Tim Tebow. Sometimes a great college career doesn't translate into a great pro one.
Personally I'm done with the Pats trying to work with midget DB's we have too many 5'10 guys as it is. From what I've been told, Mathieu would be looking up to Wes Welker. Dennard might be only 5'10, but he's a strong 200. He's the exception that proves the rule. We don't need to expand our midget DB's. What's Mathieu, 5'9 175, 180?. I don't care how effective he was in college, EVERY WR he'll play against in the NFL will be bigger, stronger, and in many cases faster and quicker.
If he were there in the 7th like Dennard was, he'd be a value pick. Other than that.....PASS....but not because he's "troubled".
